"Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale" of a time when television shows began with awesome TV Theme Songs. "Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name" and sometimes you want to go back to when TV Theme songs were special. "Here's a story... of a lovely" time when TV Theme Songs served to identify, distinguish and set the stage for the television program that followed. "You take the good, take the bad, take them both and there you have" what unfortunately has become a lost artform. "Believe it or not", sadly it seems no effort or pride is taken in the TV Theme Song ever since Seinfeld proved a short synth-bass riff could be used instead. “Schlemiel! Schlimazel! Hasenpfeffer Incorporated!” This regular feature may not "make all our dreams come true", but it will remember some of the best TV Theme Songs from years past (with a focus on the '80s decade). "Come aboard, we're expecting you."
This time we will cover the theme song for Kids Incorporated. "Everybody look around. Hear the sound. Something special's gonna come your way. We've got something that is new, that is true. We've got something just for you today." Kids Incorporated debuted in September 1984 in syndication before moving to The Disney Channel and then running 9 seasons and 149 episodes. The show was about a band of children and teenagers who performed versions of popular songs each episode while also struggling with issues like peer pressure, child abuse, relationships and much more. There was usually one original song each episode, but then four or five covers of songs from a variety of decades and in a variety of genres. It was appealing to many kids to see other kids performing versions of recognizable songs and some of the young performers went on to careers in music and acting. Among those who went on to fame from Kids Incorporated include Stacy Ferguson better known now as Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, Marta Marrero better known now as Martika, Mario Lopez, Shanice, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Eric Balfour.
The theme song for Kids Incorporated was composed by Michael Cruz who was a producer/arranger/composer on the show during the first season. Cruz had previous experience writing several songs used for the television series Fame. The song was performed by the cast of the show. Here is the opening from each season for Kids Incorporated featuring the theme song...
"We're Kids Incorporated. K-I-D-S Yeah! Kids Incorporated. K-I-D-S Whoa, oh, oh. Looks like we've made it. Cuz we're Kids Incorporated! K-I-D-S Yes!"
Hope you enjoyed tuning in for another "episode" of TV Theme Songs!
