Metallica - S&M

Does this stand for Symphony and Metal? My reviews of each song.. I will come back to edit after each one... These are all remakes Most songs I did not hear in their entirety - but I heard most of each... The Ecstacy of Gold: Nothing to be ashamed of! The Call of Ktulu: Oh my God.. Freaking amazing! A metal masterpiece. Master of Puppets: Music is a hurricane of power. Vocals a sick display of garbage. Of Wolf and Man: Excellent The Thing That Should Not Be: Very good. Fuel: Not bad. But not Metallica. The Memory Remains: Ahh, not bad. I guess. But not Metallica. No Leaf Clover: Interesting. A touch of Metallica in here. Somewhere (I think I heard it). Hero of the Day: Romper Room on a stick. Devil's Dance: Not bad. One of their better newer songs. Bleeding Me: Are they looking for another Fade to Black here? Gimme a break. Not happening. Nothing Else Matters: Interesting. Not bad at all. Until It Sleeps: Yeah, that's nice. Whatever. For Whom The Bell Tolls: They really could have something here. But they don't. In fact, they ruined it. Human: Not exactly Metallica but not so bad either. Wherever I May Roam: Pretty damn cool... Outlaw Torn: Nah. Sad... But true... Sad But True: They should have just left it alone. One: Up. They ruined another one. And this one was sacred. Enter Sandman: Ahh, not bad, I guess... Battery: Another powerful display of music. Vocals not bad.

I listened to the album in it's entirety on line before it was released. I loved most of it but must agree with Claziano. There were a few songs that I wish they hadn't touched. But, as a huge Metallica fan (since 1983) I probably will buy the album. I just love the IDEA behind this. How many acts in Metallica's genre would have the balls to try this, let alone pull it off? NONE! Only Metallica would be brave enough to do something of this magnitude. Some of this album is just HUGE! Love it, love them... ~Rain

Hi there, Rain Taylor. Thanks for coming. Nice to see ya! Yeah, this IS the kind of thing that Metallica is good at doing.. Starting something new.. I like most of it. I will probably buy it. It's not like a LOAD or RELOAD. I will buy it because it has alot of Metallica in it. I will never by LOAD or RELOAD though.. I wont support that kind of crap. And I wouldn't want anyone outside of my car to hear it... P.S. Let's thank GOD they didn't touch Fade to Black!!!

Hi Claziano! Thanks for the welcome. I did buy Load and Reload. Although I liked Reload better. They were differant from any other Metallica albums, and not at all what I was expecting, but I love all kinds of music..from Metallica to Duran Duran to Rob Zombie. Once I got used to the fact that Metallica were not the pimply faced little brats that made "Master of Puppets" any longer and that, with age, they were going to change , I actually grew to like both Load and Reload. Love your board, by the way...I could make this my home away from the TTP boards.. ~Rain

Zel is getting pretty popular
I'm not up with all the metal bands although I do like the sound but I have a question : ) Who was Rob Zombie before he was 'Rob Zombie'. Much Music had a contest last spring and the question always stuck in my head. So....Who is Rob Zombie???? : )

>>>>How many acts in Metallica's genre would have the balls to try this, let alone pull it off? NONE!<<<< Thank God they are hopefully the only ones to do this. I think when Cliff died so did Metallica. I'm not saying they suck or anything like that because up to "And justice for all" they were great. These guys were one of the originators of metal and now this?! What next a gospel album? LMAO

Metallica grew up! Thank-god for that. I am sorry, if a band continually puts out the same album, over and over again, no matter HOW great they are, I begin to lose interest. That is why I am still a Metallica fan. They are not afraid to change and take risks. I have nothing but respect for these guys. The ONLY thing the do that ticks me off, is they don't give Jason enough room to be himself. They have kept him under thumb for years and never take advantage of his talents. As much as I loved Cliff (and I got the pleasure of meeting the man about a month before he died) he did not MAKE Metallica. I personally think James and Lars have been, and always will be the TOTAL driving force behind the band..!

I have been down this road so many times before about Metallica's "new" sound and quite a few of the discuusions have been pretty heated.......I'm not going to do that here. The only thing I will say is they have lost a long time fan.

I hear ya Not Man...I avoid the Metallica Debate most times because it often erupts into huge flame wars of disrespect...(although rarely does this occur when older music fans are discussing the matter). They no longer interest me..therefore I do not purchase any of their recordings at present. They are also NOT the first band to come up with the idea of playing with a Symphony..... Ah..and they are going to mature EVEN MORE....with Dr. Dre as their producer for the next full length release (or so this is desired by Jason..don't know what the rest of the band thinks)...and also James and Co. have shown an interest to experiment with Industrial sounds. Aughto to be interesting...NOT!!!

That's true Skyklad I remember awhile back Aerosmith did "Dream on" with an orchestra. I think Queensryche did too. Was it "Silent lucidity"?

I can understand Rain Taylor liking change. Everyone has different tastes. I personally don't like the 'new' Metallica. I liked the old stuff better. Cliff was the guy they didn't wanna piss off - so in a way he was like the boss. They were afraid of him. And they did very well while he was in the band.. I really wonder how it would be if he were still there. I know they would not have taken this direction and it would have made me happier. I liked "... And Justice For All" too. The black album wasn't so bad but they changed producers and the music started to change. There weren't the 'changes' in the middle of the songs like there always were before.. Now Dr. Dre could be producing their latest album? Why? I mean, if it's good I will buy it - but I don't think it will be. And I do also hear the rumors about the Industrial sound they are aiming for... Oh, and another thing.. They like to complain about the "Bass" being hardly audible in "...And Justice for All". Well, I think they didn't have confidense in Jason so they lowered it on purpose - so it was their own fault...

Raptallica?

I heard that too Sal about Dr. Dre producing their next album. I think that was a big mistake taking on Bob Rock as their producer. That's when things changed. The Black Album isn't to bad......just not one of my favorites.

Re: Raptallica?

Rasmussen was a good producer. They blame him for the barely heard base in ...And Justice for All - but I think Hetfield and others wanted it that way... That was a very powerful album - I don't know why they hate it so much.. The black album stunk compared to the rest of their previous albums - although I would LOVE for them to have stayed THAT way even.. I remember when I first heard about the black album coming out. I was really excited until somebody told me they slowed down... Uhhh...

Re: Raptallica?

hehe I didn't realize you changed the name of the thread to Raptallica. hehe That's funny.. You KNOW that Dr. Dre is going to have to stick his voice in there somewhere. He does it on all the albums he produces.. He will be in atleast one song, if not a few... Imagine what that is going to be like.. Very, very wierd...

Re: Raptallica? Oh no.

man...if Dr. Dre is going to porduce the next one....Metallica changes again. Another new heated up conversation about that one will arouse. Joy.

I personally liked S&M, they weren't the same, original Metallica, but closer than they have been the last few years. I've listened to Load and Reload, and I wouldn't buy them, they just weren't Metallica, not up to my standards of them. I hope the next ablum is better--but no rapping, we have enough of the crossover stuff right now, who needs anymore. (I'm not putting down any of the new crossbreeds, cause hey, I would be a hypocrite if I did that, but all the rip offs, please.)
