Cool What Did You Do On Your Sat. Nights In The 80's??

Hi.....getting kind of comfortable here enough to start a thread! For those of you who were "of cruisin' age" in the 80's...( I ask this because alot of things have changed since then, at least in my town).
On weekends...... everyone would cruise the strip. This was the road that ran for several miles through town. The park, down the main street through town, out to the shopping center where everyone would park in one long line on either side. (You kind of had to be there). That was THE place to be seen. Sometimes we would see a car of good looking (or not so ) guys, grab some beer and go out to one of the country roads somewhere. It was pretty safe then to do things like that. Just sit, listen to some good music and talk.
Another thing we would do would go to Jerry's......a good place to talk and dance. Sometimes the "Zoo" another place but was a little wilder.
Those were the days....I miss them at times, but now the kids can't sit at the shopping center...the zoo is now a clothing store, and Jerry's burned down about 9 years ago.
How about the rest of you? What'd you do on the weekends.

Cruising the strip on Saturday night was always lots of fun! There were three towns that formed a triangle where I grew up, and a bunch of us would hop in the car and cruise the Tri. There would be so many other kids out cruising that there would be a traffic jam for miles! Of course, that sort of thing is outlawed today... Sometimes, we would just go hang out at the mall on Saturday nights and hit the arcade. Often, we would go see a movie at the cineplex. There was always something to do on a Saturday night... and it was always fun!!!

For most of the 80's - my exploits ain't worth corruptin anyone with, but the last year of the decade was the best. Spent most of the weekends hangin down at a pub/club named The Iron Cross with Xandra. We were just gettin to know each other then an they were pretty rowdy times. Good music, dancin, tossin back a few pints with the rest of the crew. After closin we'd hop into our cars, on our bikes, whatever - an head down to Alexandra Park. We'd hang there a bit, music up on the stereos, talkin an laughin until the early hours. Miss that. Hangin that late in the park is frowned upon these days an the old Iron Cross went the way of the dinosaurs in 1990. But my best memory of those nights was askin Xandra to be my girl an her sayin yes - caught her at the perfect time too, as it was startin to rain an I wouldn't let her in the car til she answered me. Heh. To this day she claims she only said yes to get outta the rain.

We used to all go roller skating and then out 'cruising'. As we got older, they closed the rink down so we went cruising and drinking. Hey, take away the only thing for kids to do, and they will do the all the wrong things.....

I use to spend the night with my best friend and we would dance in the streets. When I got older I would go to the skating rink. I loved being around music.
In the late 80's my satrudays were filled with bed time stories and lullabyes. I wouldn't change it for the world.

That is easy to answer. In the 80's in the Bronx, inevitably, the night would begin and end in Pelham Bay Park, the largest park in NY. It had a HUGE parking lot, and there would be anywhere from 50 to 300 kids hanging out. Cars lined up, windows open, and METAL cranking all around! All the guys had hair, and all the gals wanted the guys who had hair!

We'd start off there, down a few, then either head on over to the happening metal club at the time, Streets....or stay where we were because we had a few too many! The night would usually break up around 2 or 3 am.

They were great times, and you have NO idea how much I miss them.

This question has three answers.

Early 80's - Mostly at home (to young to drive)

Mid 80's - Cruising aroud town and generally causing trouble. I was good at that, believe it or not...

Late 80's - What I affectionately refer to as "the College Years". Spent most of them passed out. What I can remember were some great times though.

That pretty much sums up my Saturday nights in the '80s too.

In the late '80s I was a pre teen hitting the malls, going to a few middle school parties, and trying to look cool with my friends as our parents drove us around for everything, but for the most part, I remember doing what most people 12 and under do on Saturday nights, watching The Golden Girls or Saturday Night Live. Or maybey a taped rerun of Knight Rider, Miami Vice.

Cruisin' hanging out and drinking beer!

We had fun!! My best friend and I would spend the night at her g-ma's house while her g-ma spent the night at her niece's house. The only stipulation was we had to go to church the next morning. Not a problem since I was hanging out with the preacher's son. We had many a good time there

In the early 80's, it would have been spent hanging at the pit or Franks fields, both were just secluded area's where anywhere from 30-300 underage teens would be hanging out

Mid 80's -bars and parties

late 80's bars, parties, but also alot of studying and hanging out at home with my girlfriend renting movies, working, I finally discovered their was TV on saturday night

I still remember the early 80's as my favorite being raided by the cops and running, almost getting in fights trying to explain Alice Cooper is not the guy from Leave it to Beaver, drinking warm beer and not minding it, and when feeling a naked breast was equal to be at an orgy at hugh hefners mansion...... all good harmless fun and alot of laughs

Trixter is getting pretty popular
Well my Saturdays usually consisted of hangin' out with my friends. We would find out about parties and make the scene! Later, when we could actually get into clubs we'd go out dancing and drinking to all hours which would usually end up in a game of "Commando" where we'd get onto the local military base, break into two teams of three and hunt each other down, trying to avoid base residents and military security. We'd have to do some fancy footwork at times to outsmart the security. We actually jumped into oleander bushes once to avoid getting caught! Wow, it sounds geeky and corny now, but hell, those were the days!

In the early 80's it was staying up late watching movies, MTV, Saturday Night Live, etc. Having a friend stay over sometimes for a sleepover.

In the mid to late 80's, cruisin' 6th street in my boyfriend's '86 Mustang GT with the music loud, maybe catch a movie, or just go hang out with friends. The sad thing is you can no longer cruise 6th street on a Friday or Saturday night like in the good old days. You can only walk it now.

In the early 80's we get dropped off at the local video/skate rink hall... try to pick up girls but were never successful
In the mid 80's we drove ourselves around cruising meeting friends, trying to score booze & weed and still try to pick up girls... still not as successful as the early 80's.
By the late 80's, we were throwing parties or I'd be playing with my band at the parties... still trying to pick up girls... at least I was more successful this time around...

3-D: driving, drinking, dancing...

I can remember that we had tested out if the traffic lights on one of the streets were really switched to green light at 70 kph - our test vehicle was the BMW 535i of my friends mum.
As it turned out, it worked pretty well...also at 140 and 210 kph.

When we had not dared our lifes on the streets, we either went through the dance halls of our town and other places, or we had visited our favourite bars and pubs.

Up 'till 87-ish it was spend in front of the telly or my C64

From 87 and forward it was spend either at parties or a hanging out with friends drinking and dancing....Guess that could also qualify as a party, but since there were usually only 6-8 of us, we didn't consider it a party, just a good time
