It was Captain Kangaroo all the way for me when I was little. I would get up early just to watch that show. My favorite characters were the moose and bunny rabbit.

Even though I was no longer a little kid when the show debuted in the late 80s, I got a big kick out of Pee-Wee's Playhouse!!! I loved this show, and some of the jokes on here weren't meant to be understood by little kids, so it was better to be a bit older to watch it! Too bad Paul Reubens had to get into all that trouble and mess things up!

I did enjoy watching Captain Kangaroo, too. I liked Mr. Jeans and Moose. And Picture Pages were always fun. :)

Does anyone else remember Kukla, Fran and Ollie? I actually only have a vague recollection of watching it with my older sister.

They used to show re-runs of Picture Pages on PBS. But haven't seen it in a while! :(

Before Pee Wee was exposed as the big pervo that he is, Pee Wee had the most entertaining kids show around!

Picture Pages were the best. I remember that you could pick up copies of Pic. Pages at the library and you could do the puzzles along with Bill. Interactive tv from the late-70s, early-80s! :) Bill Cosby was perfect for that job.

I voted for Picture Pages with Bill Cosby with Mark Sommers a close second.

I actually appeared on an episode of a locally produced children's show. It was "The Uncle Al Show" and was recorded in Cincinatti, Ohio. I was probably five or six at the time, so I don't remember much at all about the experience, except that Uncle Al wore a conductor's cap and overalls, which impressed me as I was fascinated by trains. My mom has the pictures of my day on the set somewhere. It would be fun to see them again! :D

I voted for, Captain Kangaroo. But I think one of my all time favorite kid shows was Romper Room in the 70s. :)

Had to go with The Captain, although Bozo was a close second. Mister Rogers always weirded me out, too sedated and he spoke to soft and slow (even as a toddler I was picking up that vibe, that's sad!)

I grew up with a local local kiddie show with this dude that collected buttons that the kids would give him and he would come out in a little boat. It was called Ramblin Rod. It was cool 'cause you could be in the show sitting in the little bleachers. I think I was on the show twice :)

I LOVED Captain Kangeroo.
I actually missed the bus one morning because I would not stop watching it! I used to love it when all the ping pong balls would come raining from the ceiling.
I would love to watch that show again? is it ever on anywhere at any time??? it isn't where I live. :(

I also loved Sesame Street, Electric Company and Mr Rogers Neighborhood. My fave part of that show was the neighborhood of Make Believe!!!!

This is really a difficult question for me as the poll shows Cpt Kangaroo as an 80's program and I remember watching him in the 60's when I was a kid, he came on right after Romper Room. But my favorite kid show hosts basically were a local duo here in Washington State and they were on a local channel KSTW channel 11. It was Ranger Ronnie and Roscoe and they showed cartoons and had people on that had really cool careers and live kids in the audience. Their favorite catch phrase was.."We care about you!" It was corny but entertaining.

Having a strong passion for science, I watched a lot of "Mr. Wizard's World" in the 80's, and that's who I picked.

We had a popular host here in Canada. His name was Ernie Coombs, but better known to the Canadian TV world as "Mr. Dressup".

He was fun to watch. He used to draw really cool pictures on his board, and then he'd go to his tickle trunk and find some sort of costume to put on so he could act out a skit with the puppets

I was real sad when he passed away

Am I the only one who watched Bozo the clown.

I saw Bozo a few times, but where I live, the WGN network was only available with the special cable packages that were super expensive :(

Pee-Wee's Playhouse got my vote. I caught the tail-end of Captain Kangaroo's years on tv when I was younger.

I loooooved Picture Pages. I adored that talking pen.

Pee Wee's playhouse for me man! You can imitate his laugh to this day, and even younger kids will know what you're referencing. I also dug Martin Short's character Ed Grimley, he was friggin' insane!

Mr. Dressup was amazing. He was originally from the US too, oddly enough, and worked with Fred Rogers early in their careers. I work right by the CBC building and in the lobby, they have the actual treehouse set where Casey & Finnegan lived.

I remember when he died too, it was so sad, a couple of days right after the Sept 11 attack.

I voted for Mr. Wizard. Growing up, we didn't have cable, so it was one of the few watchable things other than The Racoons and Danger Bay that Canadian channels showed.
