I know that this is not a 1980s television show but this show was in rotation in the 1980s. This show is from the mind of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson and it was filmed in the mid 1970s. This show takes place on the Moon in 1999. The Commander of Moonbase Alpha is led by Commander Koeing played by Academy Award Winner Martin Landau and Dr. Russell played by Barbara Bain. The Moon is then blasted out of Earth orbit by a gigantic nuclear explosion. The men and women of Moonbase Alpha are then set to wander the deepest reaches of space meeting weird and exotic aliens. I think that this was a truly gutsy show that mixed the best of 70s techology and pupeteering. In production this show cost about one million dollars per episode at that time the most for any science fiction show. Even though some episodes were extremely cheesy there were equally good episodes. I hooked watching this show on late night television in the 1980s and then showed on the Sci-Fi Channel. The supporting cast who played their roles very good were:

Barry Morse:Professor Bergman
Prentis Hancock:Controller Paul Morrow
Clifton Jones:David Kano
Zienia Merton:Sandra Benes
Anton Phillips:Dr. Mathias
Nick Tate: Astronaut Alan Carter
Catherine Schell:Maya

I would like to hear the responses for thpse who remember this.
Remember do not be shy, just reply!!

I remember "Space 1999" fondly! :)
I remember Martin Landau and Barbara Bain only on the show though, (trivia: they were married in real life and I think starred on "Mission Impossible" together as well.). The show is now being released on DVD, I'm not sure if season by season, but there are at least 6 volumes of the show out on DVD already. When I saw the movie "Saturn 3" with Kirk Douglas and Farrah Fawcett, I thought it was an update or film that paid homage to "Space 1999". Good show!

I remember watching Space: 1999 in syndication as a kid. I always enjoyed the show. It wasn't anywhere near as popular as Star Trek, but it was a very good show nonetheless. :)

The great controversy is which is better Season 1 or Season 2?
I think that season one is better.
