I read somewhere not too long ago, that Simple Minds never really made it big outside Europe (except for "Don't You").
That surprised me since they've made so many faboluos songs, and I'm pretty darn sure most of my fellow xchangers know more than just "Don't you", so if we put that aside for a min, which is your fave Simple Minds tune ? :)

"Don't You (Forget About Me)" is a timeless classic that I will never grow tired of hearing! One of the greatest pop songs of all time. However, I voted for "Alive and Kicking" in this poll, as I truly love this song!!! :)

See :)

Why ? I'm sure that "Don't you" would get all votes (including mine) and I was curious as to wether or not Simple Minds are known outside Europe for other than "Don't you" :p

Well I don't know about anywhere else in the US, but here in town, "Alive And Kicking" was played all over the radio and requested quite a bit. I'm thinkin' this was a hit in the US, not as big as "Don't You Forget About Me", but still popular. :thumb: I voted for "Alive And Kicking"! :)

"Don't you forget about me" sorry Smurph but it is a classic song from a classic movie. I actually own Simple Minds greatest hits. I also really like "Sanctify yourself"

I guess no one read your post before they voted! :( Slackers!

While my fave by them is also D.Y.F.A.M., I voted for Alive And Kicking. The only other song I know by them is Sanctify Yourself, and I liked it, too. :)

Well if we are talking Simple Mind's best 80s song then "Don't you forget about me" should definitely be included otherwise the poll is inaccurate. :)

Alive and Kicking here too because it's the only one from the list I'd heard of. I really liked most anything I heard by them 'tho.

Other: "Don't you (forget about me)". If I had to choose one of the list, I'd have a though between "Waterfront" and "Belfast child".

I read in a recent magazine interview with Jim Kerr, Lead Singer of Simple Minds, that Don't You (Forget About Me) is his least favourite song, as it is the only song that they didn't write.

They were very popular here in California Smurf. I went to see them in concert and after I heard Sanctify Yourself it became my favorite song from them. So, I voted for other.;)

I voted for Other. Promised You A Miracle will always be my favorite Simple Minds song. The newly released Greatest Hits CD is good value for people who don't know Simple Minds very well.

I went with "other" too. I think Up On The Catwalk is probably my all time fave. But anything from Sons & Fascination or from New Gold Dream would work for me too. lol

I don't have a problem with "Don't you" not being up for voting as "Belfast Child" has always been my favourite Simple Minds song anyway.

"Alive and kicking" got my vote, followed closely by "Belfast Child".

Didn't Simple Minds have a song called "Miracle"? I remember it vaguely.

I had a feeling that's why you left out "Don't You.." seeing as how it's what they are mainly known for here in the U.S.

I hate to be typical but it's such a damn good song! It's a classic and one of my fave songs of the 80s. I can't deny what a cool song it is. Everything about it is just so good, the tune, the vocals the guitarlicks, and of course the movie!

I love Simple Minds. I went went through two cassettes. The key board player looks like my hubby lol :D

Alive and Kicking because I think it is a very cool video. All the Things She Said/Sanctify Yourself/Waterfront are also soooo good.

I'm glad you didn't put Don't You(Forget About Me) on this poll. I love that song but I associate it more with Soundtrack Breakfast club than something from actual Simple Mind tracks.

Its kinda like trying to put Bruce Springsteens Secret Garden from Jerry McGuire with Born In the USA or The River... better associated with soundtrack.

LOL I'm not making any sense... better get off the Appletons :goofy:

I voted for Waterfront. That is an awesome song.

It was a hard choice between that one and Someone Somewhere (In Summertime)

I also think these songs by them are great...
Ghostdancing
Promised You a Miracle
This is Your Land
Sanctify Yourself
Lovesong

There is a killer remix of the song Lovesong that I have on an 80s Compilations CD.

Someone, somewhere in Summertime is by far Simple Minds' best song
as far as I'm concerned (a minor radio classic as well).
Apart from that, Don't you (Simple Minds interpreted the song, after Bryan Ferry's rejection)
is amongst the 40 most popular songs in Hellas ever.
Alive & kicking is also considered a classic radio hit in my country!
Simple Minds songs, get regularly airplay, at least in Greek radio stations!

For me it has to be 'New Gold Dream'. On the recently released 3 cd set '80's 12"' the 12" mix is just fantastic!
