Today I got some sort of script file on to my computer...After visiting a Colin McRae game site, my startpage was changed...Now this I know how to deal with, but this time my start page was reset everytime I restarted my computer...
Thru' a filesearch and msconfig I found this bugger in my system:
gshp.vbs Apparently it's some sort of script file, that kept resetting my start-page
I'm not sure if this could be a trojan ,it's only 1kb in size, which is too small to be a prog (or even a simple javascript) on it's own. What I'm worried about is that other stuff may be on my cpu now. Norton Antivirus didn't detect it (my def's are up to date), so what's a good trojankiller ?? Any suggestions will be higly appreciated :)

You may want to check out Lavasoft AdAware (http://www.majorgeek.com/index2.html) which is pretty good when it comes to eliminate spyware and certain trojans.
If you donīt have any virus scanner already installed, I suggest to look at H&BEDV AntiVir (http://www.free-av.com/). AntirVir is very reliable, you can update it via the Internet, and best is that itīs for free. :D
To make sure that no one else can scan your ports to misuse your comp, take a look at Zone Labs (http://www.zonelabs.com/) for the free version of Zone Alarm, the best personal firewall IMHO.
If you are using Microsofts IE, upgrade to Version 6. IE6 offers more settings which can suppress the unwanted installation of scripts. If you set the restrictions high, itīs possible that the page wonīt be displayed anymore - in 99 out of 100 cases I have found out that such pages which are using ActiveX-elements are not really worth of being displayed.
Iīm sure that with these programs, your PC should be quite safe then.
Yeah. .vbs is a Visual Basic script. I hate home page hi-jackers. I got hit with one of those not long ago and Ad-Aware took care of it nicely. I would listen to Wave and go get it. Should take care of this for you.
Just like you said, that was vbscript. The only other thing I was going to say about the size is you can make a virus in 1K. If it were written in pure assembly language, you can really damage a machine in that amount of space. You can corrupt the master boot record, kill the fat table, low level format the drive, all kinds of things.
I haven't seen a virus that small in ages though.
I use Mcafees (I like it better than Nortons) and Zone alarm. Prett happy with the two.
Aren't viruses fun?

Erh...that would be a big NO! ;) :D
Seriously, I wanna thank you all for helping me out :thumb: Go have a nice cool beer on me...
Tho' this apparently was a non-maliscious script, I'd hate to see what a serious one could do to my system
AddWare, Norton and ZoneAlarm are now headbuttin anything unwanted for me :D

I ran AdAware a few hours ago, which deleted a few cookies.
I also run ZoneAlarm and Norton Antivirus 2002. I want my computer free of junk. :hammer:
