View Full Version : Best U2 song of the 80's?
Hey Y'all,
What would you consider the bes U2 song from the 80's? There is a lot to choose from, think...think...think. :)
Caligula 3-28-02, 05:35 AM I picked Sunday Bloody Sunday. (especially a live version) although I like U2 and alot of the songs listed. Was never a big U2 fan in the early 80's , I started getting into them in the late 80's early 90's
80sSmurf 3-28-02, 06:07 AM Gimme some time, I can't decide...I've manged to narrow it down to Pride or Sunday Bloody Sunday (LIVE!)
Iluvthe80s 3-28-02, 06:31 AM My favorite has always been "I Will Follow".
80sTrivia 3-28-02, 06:46 AM Decisions, decisions!!! Very hard to narrow it down for me, as I loved everything off of their Joshua Tree album, my favorite album of all time! Ultimately, I voted for "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", which is sort of my theme song in life!!! :D
Roemello 3-28-02, 07:52 AM Very tough choice....I went with 'Pride'..always loved that song
this charming man 3-28-02, 09:26 AM I voted for other as I like a song called "Bad" (I think that's the right song) the best. It's from their "Wide Awake In America" EP. It's really good live.
.
I've voted for "New year's day", although is a song that's -in my opinion- absolutelly different to all the rest of U2 music.
Not a big U2 fan but "Desire" is my favorite song by the group.
Steve Savicki 3-28-02, 02:57 PM Pride (In The Name Of Love)
djdaffy1227 3-28-02, 03:26 PM That was tough. I like "Pride (in the name of love)" and "Angel of Harlem" equally well but went with "Angel of Harlem". A tribute to one of the finest female voices ever, Billie Holiday.
80sSmurf 3-28-02, 03:39 PM Finally decided on Pride :)
Gives me goosebumps every time I hear it...
I voted for "New Years Day", but in reality my favorite is "A Sort of Homecoming" with "Bad" a close second. I love all their early stuff (i.e. up 'til 85).
Not a huge fan, I find most of their songs sound very similar. But they did have some good ones.
space-invader 3-28-02, 07:41 PM me neither...songs do sound similar to me as well
went for "new years day"
Pride...Such a great song...every MLK day K-ROQ plays the best mix of this song with the "I have a dream" speach mixed in, it is so amazing.
VioletFoxx 3-28-02, 11:04 PM So many of these songs are great....it was a tough call between Sunday Bloody Sunday and Pride. I ended up going with Sunday Bloody Sunday though. I always see the video in my head, with the flaming pillars at Red Rocks. Too cool. :thumb:
80s hair 3-29-02, 08:45 AM I voted for "I Will Follow". Not much of a U2 fan, but I do like some of the early U2. :hammer:
Christine 3-29-02, 03:12 PM My favorite is "With Or Without You". I really love this song. My next favorite is "New Year's Day". I'm not a U2 fan though, like Recker, I think their songs sound the same and are kind of bland. But "With Or Without You" is a beautiful song and one of my favorites of all time.
Ted Nugent 3-29-02, 03:15 PM I don't really like any of their songs but, "With or without you". Reminds me of driving to the mall for some reason.
I voted for the beautiful song "With Or Without You", one of the best songs in U2's career! :thumb:
ImSoooSure 4-02-02, 09:40 PM Where the streets have no name is by far my favorite U2 song. I can't believe nobody else voted for this one. So many good ones to choose from I suppose!;)
Sunday, Bloody Sunday. A great song from back when I could still take Bono and his merry men seriously.
I like most of them and it is hard to pick a favorite. I picked Sunday, bloody Sunday as my favorite
Pride is my choice but I love New Year's Day - I always play it (loud) on January 1 :)
Prefab Sprouter 6-13-02, 07:29 AM Would you believe I dont like them that much??????
Anyway voted for Desire!
"New Years Day" - always great to listen to some U2 :)
BlitzKid 6-13-02, 07:41 AM Definatley New Years day! And the time ot listen to the song is after you get up ...well on New Years day of course.
Det.RicardoTubbs 6-13-02, 07:48 AM I'm going to be the oddball here and admit that my favs are
When Love Comes To Town and
All I Want Is You
Very tough decision. They are one of my top bands.....
DC Rebel 6-13-02, 10:17 AM I could not figure out which song I liked the best, so I rolled some dice to decide. The dice came up with Sunday, Bloody Sunday.
psychocandy 6-13-02, 10:19 AM Gotta agree with Charming Man and say "Bad" was the best.
whistledog 9-20-04, 08:39 PM I always liked 'Angel of Harlem', but today, I think I'll pick 'New Years Day' because I loved the Musique vs. U2 version :thumb:
I voted "other" way too hard but I'd have to say “Two Hearts Beat As One" is my all-time favorite song. I saw these guys in '85 supporting The Unforgettable Fire album. I remember a guy in the crowd waving a huge flag with MLK's picture on it. Pride (In the Name of Love) was the song, Bono said, "Stop the music, you and points to that guy, come here". Bono brings this guy up on stage and starts singing again and this fan is waving this flag and Joe Louis Arena is going nuts. A chill is going through me just typing, man what an AWESOME show that was.
Glenn Gulia 9-20-04, 11:15 PM New Years Day
COOL BREEZE 9-20-04, 11:25 PM I voted for "Where the Streets Have No Name"! Love the way the bass kicks in then I can tap out the rest of the bassline out with one hand and drink a beer with my other! :thumb:
electriss 9-20-04, 11:38 PM I voted for "with or without you", my fave U2 song!
I like New Year's Day the best. I just heard it 15-20 minutes ago.
AngelicR 9-21-04, 01:23 AM I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
Went with "Other". Probably my favorite all-time U2 song is Party Girl - the version from their live album "Under a Bood Red Sky" at Red Rocks.
Two Hearts Beat as One and Stories For Boys are tied for a very close second.
Honestly, I really didn't like The Joshua Tree album, or much of their work afterward. Although, Desire and Even Better Than The Real Thing are both great songs.
blackdragon 9-21-04, 11:20 AM Sunday Bloody Sunday is a great song.
But I must admit, there are so many U2 songs I like.
ElectricYouth 9-21-04, 08:43 PM Mine would have to be "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For".
Other for me and it would be Twilight...
80's fanatic 4-15-06, 12:46 AM New Years Day
