This was tough, I loved everything off of "American Fool" especially "Hurts So Good". The more I thought about it though, "Crumblin' Down" is my favorite song, so I went with that one.

It was tough for me to decide, too, Stacy. I finally settled on "The Authority Song"... it has a great beat and I can dance to it! But, seriously, John had so many fantastic songs in the 80s, songs with weight and meaning, and it's good to know that he's still going strong today, recording new material and touring!!! :)

Definitely my favourite Mallencamp song. Unfortunately it's not on your poll and you didn't include "Other" as an option, so I voted for "Jack & Diane".

The first song I ever liked of his was "The Authority Song". Never hear that one on the radio anymore.

"Lonely Ol' Night" I just remember hearing this song a lot in the 80's

Some times love don't feel like it should, you make it "HURT SO GOOD" (*playing air guitar right now:lol: )

These polls are getting tougher!;)

This is rare...a poll with no clear cut winner on the outset :) As for my vote...gotta go with 'Hurts So Good'

This was soooo hard!! The only song on there that isn't an absolute fave is ROCK in the USA.

I ultimately went with The Authority Song. Another song not on the list that is great is Play Guitar.

You're right, Roem, it is rare for there not to be an obivous winner right off the bat in these polls! I guess John just had so many different great hits to chose from!

I picked Aint even done with the night. The first time I heard that song or even ever heard of John Cougar he was singing this song live on The American Music Awards (around 78-79) and he was wearing a pink tux. I like the song at that time and when I saw him years later he had taken on a totally different image

I voted for "Hurts So Good", but this poll was so difficult! I also really like "Pink Houses" and "Small Town". But in the end, the choice was clear. :D  Great poll!

I was wondering if JCM is still married to former super model Elaine Irwin? I haven't heard anything about the couple in a long time. I know that John owns a magnificent mansion nearby where I live at Hilton Head. He has his own helipad and helicopter which he flies out to the island from the mainland. Choice! :)

Hurts So Good, definitely!:thumb: Pink Houses gets a close second. Both songs (plus Small Town) I could drive anywhere here in Indiana and they would all sound good:cool:

It was definitely too hard to narrow down the choices here, as JCM had way more than ten hits to chose from!!!

Ain't Even Done With the Night, but I would have picked "A Hand To Hold Onto" if it was in the poll choices.

Indeed, a personal fave of mine as well

He was never that 'big' over here in the UK, but did become something of a respected artists with regular radio play and reasonable LP sales.

Hurts so Good got my vote, followed by Authority Song. The song I'm tired of is Jack and Diane, just because of being overplayed.

Hurts So Good, and it's really not close. His other songs were good, but Hurts So Good stands alone and is one of the greatest songs of all time.
