Geeze people....Geddy Lee ring a bell?! HELLO!! Not Man will have your heads for not knowing RUSH....

I've heard of them all, but I go with Bryan Adams...so many great tunes especially 'Summer of '69' one of my all time faves

Never heard of Rush!? Government "Canadian content" regulations have ensured that wouldn't happen in Canada, as you can't turn on a "classic rock" station in Canada for 10 minutes without getting Rush. I gave them the vote too.

Other Canuck acts in the '80s who were popular, however briefly, UP HERE, anyway, and these are mostly rock and metal:

Lee Aaron (Metal Queen)
Anvil
Chilliwack
Tom Cochrane and Red Rider
Coney Hatch
Doug and the Slugs
54-40
Fist
FM
Glass Tiger
Gowan
Grapes of Wrath
Haywire
Jeff Healey
Helix (ROCK YOU!!! C'mon, someone else out there must remember Helix)
Honeymoon Suite
Colin James
Jitters
Kick Axe (wow, heavy metal from Saskatchewan!)
Killer Dwarfs
Loverboy
Luba
Martha and the Muffins (our very-early-'80s New Wave entry)
Max Webster / Kim Mitchell
Men Without Hats
Northern Pikes
Parachute Club
Payola$
Piledriver (over-the-top humourous metal, not a real band)
Pursuit of Happiness
Saga
Shuffle Demons (Spadina Bus!)
Skinny Puppy
Spoons
Thor (yes. That one. Yep, he's ours.)
Pat Travers
Toronto
Triumph
Voivod
Neil Young
Zappacosta

Frustratingly, a lot of this stuff is either long out-of-print or in need of remastering.

Rush would have to be my favorite Canadian group/artist of all time.

I was going to post a similar poll, to honor our many Canadian Xchangers, Jughead!!! :thumb:

My vote went to Bryan Adams, who really rocked the 80s with his anthems "Summer of '69" and "Run To You"!!! :)

I voted for "Other" because Loverboy was my fave canadian act. I guess Bryan Adams is a close second.
I just voted in the Australian band poll, also, and I swore that Icehouse was Canadian, but I guess they're from Australia. I guess we learn something new every day. (Of course it took me 15 years to figure that one out.)

Hey, That 80z Girl!!! :) I'm almost one hundred percent positive that Icehouse is an Aussie band, so I hope that one of our Aussie Xchangers can corroborate this! Their song "Great Southern Land" was about Australia, which is what lead me to believe they were from Down Under!!! :)

Whatever happened to Corey Hart, Juggie? Is he still popular in the Great White North? I loved that song "It Ain't Enough"!

Corey Hart had a mild comeback of sorts in 1996 when he released "Black Cloud Rain" and "Tell Me", but I haven't heard anything from him recently.

I know they didn't have many US hits but I really liked Chilliwack. Kim Mitchell was pretty darn good and Honeymoon Suite! I went with other :)

3-17-02, 11:42 AM
I picked Rush, but I liked a few Canadian bands that would have been other, April Wine, Triumph, Paylola's, Blue Rodeo, Headpins and oh yes Trooper.

I'm not too crazy about any of them, but out of that list, I think Bryan Adams is the best.

3-19-02, 12:43 AM
Off this list, it would be Bryan Adams. I really don't pay a lot of attention to where they're from, I just listen. ;)

Isn't Loverboy from Canada, also?

Had to vote for Rush....at least after I recovered from reading the posts from people who didn't know who they were  It's RUSH dammit! :hammer:
Still have to give a nod to Truimph though. What a great band! Thank you Canada! :D

Chilliwack, definitely Chilliwack.

I also like Glass Tiger

For the record, I knew everyone on the list. But RUSH is by far the best of the list. My seconds would come under other and are Triumph and Loverboy. Such great bands! I don't think I'd mind being subjected to the "Canadian Content Law" at all.;)

I personally would've added Jane Siberry (http://www.sheeba.ca/lobby.php?ID=9ca27a0f248e5585b602988cc51c61b9) to the list, but for what's mentioned, I went with Bryan Adams because we all know "Reckless" (http://www.cdnow.com/from=sr-181894/cgi-bin/mserver/SID=1425782201/pagename=/RP/CDN/FIND/album.html/artistid=ADAMS*BRYAN/itemid=277) was one of the biggest albums of '84, 7 of the songs got airplay.
Such a shame, my favorite, "She's Only Happy When She's Dancin'" was not one of those!

I voted for Rush. I have just recently started listening to their music and really like it.

I've voted Bryan Adams because... you know it, he's the only one I know... and in fact, I didn't know that he was canadian!
I also knew Corey Hart, but only for a song (sunglasses at night). And I'm not even sure of this song... anyway, I think it's curious that such a big country doesn't have more "international" bands or singers .

A big country In size (2nd biggest in the world) but small in population (about the same as Califiornia), I think in the 70's and 80's you could say we lacked international musical talent, with probably only Anne Murray, Rush, and Bryan Adams being truly big (maybe Bachman Turner Overdrive and the Guess Who in the 70's). but their was alot of good musicians that made some sort of impact including
Triumph
SAGA
Loverboy
Honeymoon Suite
Corey Heart
Men With Hats
April Wine
Trooper
Blue Rodeo
Anne Murray
Bryan Adams

but today there are several big name entertainers including

Celine Dion
Shania Twain
Barenaked Ladies
Alanis Morrisette
Nelly furtado
Nickelback
Sum 41
Leonard Cohen

and a few i'm sure if they have made an impact in the rest of the world ie Tagically Hip, Sloan, Great Big Sea, Jann Arden, Kim Stockwood

I went with Other. The Payola$ were a pretty great band in their day. Eyes of a Stranger and China Boys were fabulous. Bob Rock and Paul Hyde formed Rock & Hyde in the 80s too with some pretty stellar stuff like Your Dirty Water (or whatever the correct title is LOL).

Some may remember them more for their production work in later years with bands like (dare I say it?) Metallica!

Rush is my favorite of the bunch, and it was a very easy decision at that.

I went with Other too, and picked Jane Siberry. She has one of the most beautiful voices out there. I would then pick:

Rush
The Spoons
Martha and the Muffins
Bryan Adams
Honeymoon Suite
Corey Hart
Loverboy
The Parachute Club
