Maybe a two hit wonder for "Sunglasses At Night" and "Never Surrender", but definitely not a one hit wonder. :) Iluvthe80s 3-13-02, 06:35 AM Neither is OMD: If You Leave went to #4 So In Love went to #26 (Forever) Live & Die went to #19 Dreaming went to #16 djdaffy1227 3-13-02, 08:21 AM Um...Corey Hart hit the top 40, 8 times. Definitely NOT a one hit wonder. There is a complete list of one-hit wonders from the US, UK, and Germany in a thread started a while ago in this forum. I only heard If You Leave, and always liked that song. I've never heard the others. But, I might look for them online now. Thanks. I remembered Sunglasses At Night, and Never Surrender, after someone else mentioned it. Guess I'm not as up on all 80s styles as I am on hard rock. It used to get played on this low power easy listening station, which was the only station the radio in my old delivery truck would pick up that wasn't country. I didn't realize it actually qualified as a hit. Trixter 3-13-02, 09:38 AM Originally posted by Benjamin Calypso To tell you the truth, I'd forgotten about Never Surrender. Well, can't remember everything! :) Jughead Jones 3-13-02, 11:52 AM Even I knew that Corey Hart and OMD weren't one hit wonders... And, neither is Enya...or at least in Canada she wasn't... Roemello 3-13-02, 01:03 PM For reference, here's that topic with the extensive lists of one hit wonders...:D http://www.80sxchange.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=2492 lists start on page 2 :) Boggle 3-18-02, 10:58 AM How about "No Myth" by Michael Penn? I actually meant to include him in that list. :thumb: aaron 3-20-02, 12:15 PM Steelheart (as in the subject) is not an 80's band. Their debut came in 1990. I still have the CD. I'm not positive, but I don't think "I'll Never Let You Go" was in the top 40, but maybe it was. I haven't listened to them in years. I think Enya was a one hit wonder in the states. Even though she is still around, I believe in the US her only hit was "Orinoco Flow", but I could easily be wrong. Another band that stands out is a 2 hit wonder, but they only had 1 hit in the 80's. Escape Club. To this day I HATE the song Wild, Wild West (hated it in 88, hate it in 2002). Their song "I'll Be There" from 1990 is MUCH better, but not an 80's song. Only put out 2 full albums and disappeared. Well, technically 3 albums, but the first was VERY short lived. Chasey 3-21-02, 04:42 AM Always really funny how things are seen as one hit wonders in one country yet in another the band was huge! OMD were pretty big in the UK during the early 80's. Probably the most well known and biggest hits were: Messages (1980) Enola Gay (1981) Souvenir (1981) Maid of Orleans (1982) Telegraph (1983) Talking Loud and Clear (1984) Secrets (1985) Forever Live and Die (1986) chunda21 5-12-02, 09:35 AM Icehouse were MASSIVE in their native Australia!!! Top 40 Hits include: Icehouse, Sister, We Can Get Together & Walls (When their name was "Flowers") Great Southern Land, Street Cafe, Hey Little Girl, Love In Motion, Don't Believe Anymore, Paradise, No Promises, Baby You're So Strange, Crazy, Electric Blue (still my fave song), Nothing Too Serious, Man Of Colours, My Obsession, Touch The Fire, Can't Help Myself, Miss Divine, Big Fun & Harbour Town (As "Icehouse") It is also my considered opinion that Jericho Bay and Charlie's Sky would have gone to #1 with a bullet had they been released as singles (only available on the "Code Blue" album - recommended). Shee, don't you Yanks EVER listen to anything produced outside of the USA? BBG 5-14-02, 05:29 PM OMD had two hits in Canada 1. If You Leave 2. Secret I loved them both along with others. I taped one of their albums off of a friend back in the 80's. The tape is gone, I wore it out! I shoould look for their music. I miss it. BBG 5-14-02, 05:52 PM I remember listening to other songs on the radio by OMD but the two I already mentioned were played the most. Here's some other ballads by Corey Hart you might recognize. They had a lot of radioplay in Canada and the videos were played on MuchMusic all the time. 1. Everything In My Heart (Boy In The Box, released June 14 1985) 2. It Ain't Enough (First Offense, released Nov. 11 1983) 3. I Am By Your Side (Fields Of Fire, released Sept 16 1986) 4. A Little Love (Bang, released 1990) 5. Take My Heart (Fields of Fire) 6. In Your Soul (Young Man Running, June 23 1988) You already mentioned Never Surrender, that was on the Boy In The Box album There is another couple of songs I like that I haven't mentioned yet, but they didn't get as much radioplay as the others She Got The Radio (First Offense) Eurasian Eyes (Boy In The Box) VERY COOL song, starts off as a ballad, then speeds up (not that fast though), slows down again. It's one of those songs that is hard to dance to. VERY interesting! BTW, COREY IS HOT!!! I was supposed to see him in concert in the 80's however his tour was cancelled due to health reasons. He was exhausted and his doctor advised him to slow down. I deeply regret not seeing him :( |
