They were both sung by Nena...one in English and one in German...which one did you prefer?

I always prefer to have some understanding of what's been sung. The only thing I can make out in the German version is that Captain Kirk makes an appearance! :lol:

For some reason, I liked the German version better.

German version....just seems to flow so much better...more natural. Just sounds better to me :cool:

Both rocked! I'll tell you why. I play the German version on my show because it was the one that actually charted but I listen to the English version at home because I can sing along to it :)

Well quite simply, Nena's english version is cheesy.

i like them both. luftballoons because that's the original and i like a lot of bands who sing in different languages (as wave knows). i like the english version because it's nice to know what the hell she's singing about. hehe.

The first time I ever heard that song was in middle school in German class.They even showed us the video.To answer the question I prefer the German version better.

I voted for the German version, way cooler sounding! The English version's lyrics are too screwy! I know it's probably close to the same, but German sounds tougher! :thumb:

I had to go with the German version as the lyrics to the English version were a bit inane, to say the least!!! :)

I prefer Luftballoons than red balloons... ;). I like in general the original versions instead of the translated ones... translated versions give me always a strange sensation of "canned music".

I have to go with 99 luftballons. Being multi-languagely challenged it is unusual for me to like a song more that I dont understand, but like most of you guys "It just sounds better"

99 Balloon songs were bad! There was a parody called 99 Dead Baboons that was pretty good though!

i may be a little late in posting something but there is yet a third version of 99 red balloons on the Grand Turismo 3 soundtrack for the Playstation 2. It actually sounds better than either of the previous versions. E-mail me if you would like to hear it.

Easy choice for me, the German version! I don't know if it is because I speak German, but it is the same with Kraftwerk, they are better in German as well. :)

99 Red Ballons was the version that Charted in Canada whereas 99 Luft Ballons was the chart hit in the U.S.

But hence Canada gets alot of it's media from the U.S. we got both versions :D

Loved both versions! I was taking German in high school when that came out. Luftballons means air ballons.

Was apparently huge in Germany... have a copy of it on cd single myself and absolutely LOVE it still... brilliant euro-pop!!

Actually, I liked both version but if I had to pick just one it would be the German version.
