Martika's first, self-titled album was a great dance oriented album! I recently gave it a whirl in the player and had forgotten how danceable it really is!! :thumb:

Does anyone else like Martika's music?

She was a bit of one hit wonder in New Zealand. The only hit she ever had was "Toy Soldiers", but it's a hit she will always be remembered for.

The only song I ever knew by Martika was "Toy Soldiers" and I love that song.

My favorite Martika song is "Love Thy Will Be Done.." It's a fantastic and meaningful song and I luckily have it on a Latin music compliation CD. Love, thy will be done, I can no longer hide, I can no longer run, no, no, no..." :)

"Toy Soldiers" is the only song by Martika that I know. I looked up Martika's albums to listen to some clips at CDnow. They had one album listed and no bio other than her date of birth being May 18, 1969.

BTW The music clips from her album were pretty good, but no other songs of hers rang a bell.

I thought Martika had a beautiful voice, although I only know two songs of hers: "Toy Soldiers" and "Love Thy Will Be Done". "Love Thy Will Be Done" is such a beautiful amazing song. I love it.

I am so glad that I'm not the only one who loves this beautiful song! To me, it's far superior to "Toy Soldiers" and her remake of Carole King's "I Felt the Earth Move" and it really showcases her talent!

How could I not like someone who has the same birthday as me (albeit 12 years apart) :)

"Toy Soldiers" was incredibly well done, and I liked "I Feel The Earth Move" too...sadly, those are the only 2 songs I've heard, but she was great!

Martika released a second album called "Martika's Kitchen", but I didn't purchase it. Does anyone know if any singles were relesed from this album and how was it?

"Love Thy Will Be Done" is the only single that I remember from Martika's Kitchen album. If you haven't heard this song, you should check it out, as I think it's her best!!! :)

Thanks for the heads up on this song Triv! I'll have to look for the cd at the convention this weekend. :thumb: Does anyone know what became of Martika? Or if she's still recording? Is she a popular European act now?

Let me know whether or not you like Martika's "Love Thy Will Be Done", Trix. I'm betting that you are going to love this song, as it is beautiful!!! The last I heard of Martika, she was doing some acting in some low-budget softcore porn flicks (you know, the kind of movies you see on Cinemax at three o'clock in the morning!)

OMG! I thought I'd replied to this when it first came out, I certainly meant to.

I used to love Martika, probably even had a crush on her at the time. Anyway I bought her first album, but I can't find that now:mad: I didn't get her second album, but she had a hit single with the title song Martika's Kitchen in the UK. I don't really remember Love, thy will be done, but somethings goiing around my head now that I've read the title.

I thought Toy Soldiers was very good and I Feel The Earth Move was great for parties.

I own Martika's kitchen. Prince wrote "Love...thy will be done" and the title cut "Martika's kitchen" I have bootleg copies of Prince performing both the songs!! :)

Wow, DJ, I didn't know that Prince wrote "Love Thy Will Be Done"! That's very surprising because it's such a spiritual song, almost religious in terms of lyrics. Thanks for the info!!! :)

Really Triv? I've always thought Price was spiritual. It may be indirectly, but it's definitely there. "When Doves Cry" "It Always Snows In April" (not sure if this is exact title) , and the song he wrote for Sinead O'Connor "Nothing Compares 2 U", they are all very spiritual, at least to me. :)

The song is "Sometimes it snows in April" a great song if I do say so myself! He had two types of songs Spiritual and sexual, the sexual ones were the singles :) Some of his other spiritual ones were "God" the b-side of "Purple rain", "4 the tears in your eyes" from the We are the World album, and "I would die 4 U" OK so that one was a single:).

I think I was surprised that Prince wrote "Love Thy Will Be Done" because, at least to me, the song has strong religious overtones. I can see Prince's spiritual side in a song like "Nothing Compares 2 U", while the Martika song is about a person's relationship with God. :)

'Toy Soldiers' kind of makes me crazy now, I guess I got sick of it, but I love 'More Than You Know'!

I loved Kids, Inc. so of course I bought Martika's first album and really liked a couple of songs....but didn't realize she released a second album. Might have to check that one out ;)
