I'm picking this we will get a clear winner here with "True", which is my personal favourite. But I also love "I'll Fly for you" which I'd really like to vote for as well.

I voted for "True", this song is melodic and pleasing to the ear and the vocals are excellent! Definitely the best!:thumb:
Iluvthe80s 3-08-02, 07:29 AM I have only heard "True", "Gold", and "Chant No. 1 (I Don't Need This Pressure On) by Spandau Ballet. My favorite of the three is still "True".
this charming man 3-08-02, 07:40 AM I voted for True, it brings back so many good memories and was out during one of the best times in the eighties for me.
80sTrivia 3-08-02, 07:40 AM I had to toss my props to "True" as it is, without a doubt, an 80s classic! I love the lyrics and Tony Hadley's vocal style is impressive in this tune. :)
Going against the norm here, but it has to be 'Gold' for me. A truly inspirational song - and great to ponce around to after a few beers.
'True' is also a good song, but a tadge overplayed and long winded for my tastes to be considered a 'true' classic.
Christine 3-08-02, 11:35 AM My vote is for "True" - it brings back memories of my trip to Australia.
Roemello 3-08-02, 01:14 PM Hate to be monotonous, but gotta go with 'True' for this one as well
True! I love it! But a 2-way tie for second with Gold and To Cut A Long Story....... :D
djdaffy1227 3-09-02, 01:48 PM Even though I have their greatest hits CD. I only really know two of their songs "True" and "Gold" and out of the two "True" is my favorite. It also helps that it was sampled in "Set adrift on memory bliss" by PM Dawn...One of my favorite groups of all time!
pepsiprincess92 3-09-02, 02:07 PM I feel like I am jumping on the band wagon but I have to say True. As soon as I see Spandau Ballet that is what I think of. Now I will have to listen to DJ to get that song out of my head. :hammer:
Nikki_91 3-09-02, 04:31 PM I HAVE to vote for "True"..it reminds me of that moment in "Sixteen Candles"..when Jake and Samantha's eyes meet at the dance..aaaaaaw, I love that part of the movie.
scott28883 3-09-02, 06:51 PM I voted for "true", thats the only song I am really familiar with but I have heard of a couple of the others like "gold" and "chant no 1' but dont recall what they sound like.

I WANT MY TWO DOLLERS!
BlueMolly2001 3-09-02, 09:23 PM Wow, this is a tough one, because I've been a fan of theirs since 1983, and I have most of their albums on either cassette tape or CD. But I had to pick "Gold", because it's such a great song, and when I hear Tony Hadley's soulful voice I just melt. I wish I could see him and John Keeble and Steve Norman in the Then and Now tour. *sigh*
"To cut a long story short". I like the "darkness" of this song in contrast of the so sweets "Gold" or "True".
My vote is for "True"... one of my favorite songs from the 80s. (Partially because I remember hearing it as a little kid, partially because it's one song that I can listen to over and over again without getting sick of it, partially because I loved when they played PM Dawn's "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss" at elementary school skating parties, and partially because it's in my favorite scene from Sixteen Candles.)
Showing my age here, but if any of you have heard the Backstreet Boys' cover of "Set Adrift..." on their first album, they sing the hook of "True" in the background. Of course, I had to explain the history (I guess you could call it) of the song to my friends. Even then, they only really listened to "True" after it was released on the "Charlie Angels" movie soundtrack.
"Chant No. 1" is my drive-to-school-in-the-morning song... totally "I don't need this pressure on!"
I had to go with "Only When You Leave". Great uptempo song. I am quite fond of their ballads as well, but this one was refreshing when it first came out.
I like all the songs mentioned very much.
I voted for Round & Round, because it is such a sweet ballad.
BlitzKid 5-31-02, 04:06 AM I cannot decide on just one favourite song by Spandau Ballet, but no way i would ever vote for True in a Spandau poll. ;) I am a huge fan for years so I am familiar with all there albums and songs. And honestly, True is the album i like the least.
I am very much into their not so known songs like Coffee Club or Pharaoh from their second album Diamond as well as their b-sides Glow and the lovley ballad Gently. The Through the Barricades album is great and i enjoy listening to all songs on it, I like them being a bit "rocky". And on Heart like a sky, their last album as a quintett, i have to point out the song Empty Spaces.
Well of course unfortunatley the guys won't perform these songs on stage. But of course hits like Highly Strung, I'll fly for you, Lifeline or Gold are often played and great live tracks where Tony can "show off" his voice. :)
Greenway88 6-03-02, 12:03 PM I like every Spandau ballet song I've heard. I voted for Gold.
I voted for "True." I'm not familiar with most of their catalog.
True got my vote! It's one of my all-time favorite songs!!!
Therrall 6-23-02, 01:56 AM I was Never really a fan, and out of the Songs Listed the only one I know is "True" so it got my Vote :thumb:

Ah, but surely you remember another one of those songs on that list where a particular xchanger really did go flying.... out of the chat room ;) (Darn poopy DC!!! :argh: )
DC Rebel 6-23-02, 09:44 PM I would have to pick Gold as my favorite song from them. True and Communication are not that far behind.
Gold
(& Through The Barricades, Highly Strung, &.....)
80s&Indie_Obsessed 6-11-03, 06:08 PM 'Musclebound' - thats their best! Also 'Through the Barricades' is nice for a ballad :)
Foreigner 8-01-03, 07:56 PM true by a mile then gold
True I think, followed by through the barricades - haunting.
Greg
