I believe that this film truly defined the era of Ronald Reagan. This film was directed by director John Milius. This film takes place in a Colorado town(even though the film was made in New Mexico). Then, the town is invaded initially by Cuban troops in concert with troops from the Soviet Union. The main characters are a group of teenagers from a local high school who is also invaded. The teenagers are then forced to be a insurgent guerrilla group calling themselves "the Wolverines". The name is taken from the high school football team. The enemy of the teenagers is Col. Bella who is head of the occupying troops. This role is played by Ben Johnson who always plays a good soldier and commanding officer("The Final Countdown" and "A Few Good Men"). This film is cast by Patrick Swayze,Charlie Sheen,Lea Thompson,Ben Johnson,C. Thomas Howell,Jennifer Grey, Harry Dean Stanton and Powers Booth. I think this film truly defined what films were like in the 1980s. The films were feel good, and kill the commies type of film. It also showed some the paranoid feelings that the Russians were trying to get us.I remember every kid yelling "Wolverines" when playing war games outside in school. Now that type of talk is politically incorrect and might get you thrown out of school. There is a DVD available of this film. Though I wish that sometimes that they release a special verson of deleted scences. Lastly, I
thought that this was a good film because it was a defining 1980s film. I think that it is neat watching the young Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey before they did "Dirty Dancing". I really would like your thoughts on the film .

Well you've pretty much summed it up, but I'd like to add this.

I don't know about anyone else but when the 9/11 attacks occurred this movie was the first thing to pop into my head. This showed us how vulnerable we could be, but how we can unite and overcome. You're right, it is a feel good movie! :thumb:

I enjoy "Red Dawn" and own the DVD, I would have liked to see more supplemental material, but I'm happy to just get the quality visuals. I give it a **** stars out of 5!

Red Dawn was the first film to be rated PG-13. The second film was "Dreamscape" rated six weeks later. Just a little bit of movie trivia.

I remember "Red Dawn", too. I agree that it went quite well with the Reagan Era, but not in a good way. I can't quote the exact line, it was so long ago, but at one point one character bragged that his "hate keeps him warm at night". Entertaining movie, but chilling, especially in light of the fact that the possibility of war warms many peoples' hearts.
