Which 80s bestseller could you not put down?

My vote went to the ultimate 80s tale, Bonfire of the Vanities. It embodied the 80s to a tee; greed, sexual pecadilloes, drugs, the widening gap between rich and poor, racism and illicit sex. Okay, so the movie version of the novel sucked, but the book will forever be remembered and seen as a parable for the entire decade! :)

I was really into the science fiction/fantasy books...so while I don't know if they were published in the 80s, I do know I read them in the 80s. Books like the The Saddle Club, a book about horses and a group of girls who formed a club, and Secret of the Unicorn Queen are two of a few that I read. Birth of the Firebringer is another one, which I only recently found out is part of a trilogy. I guess you could say I was into all the girl-oriented books. :) Never much liked The BabySitters Club though... :eek:

I never was much into the Nancy Drew books eother.I had a few Nancy Drew books but I never could get into them.I guess I'm not into mysteries.I liked to read books by R.L. Stine and authors who wrote the same type of books.They were horror stories.I remember one of my favorites was The Babysitter.I still have all of my books.I couldn't part with them.They also have some neat covers.

OK, I'm a big Douglas Adams fan (RIP) and I love everything he's ever written. But this is my favourite book of all times and some of you here know I'm a bit of a Hitch Hiker's Guide nut. All my humurous quotes I have used in my sig in the past have been from this series of books.

How could I have forgotten to include The Hitch Hikers Guide to this list?!? It's one of the top 10 bestselling novels of the 80s!!! Doi!!! :hammer:

I voted for "Clan of the Cave Bear" in the poll, that's an excellent book, and so are the many sequels.

Hey, Katie, if you ever find the sequels to Birth of the Firebringer, let me know! I loved the first one, and have been hunting for the sequels ever since. They pop up on eBay now and then but they're always $100 :eek: I collect books that I loved as a kid, but that's so out of my price range... *g*

Yeah, Katie and I are part of the very small minority who read the Secret of the Unicorn Queen novels. I used to pick them up at the drugstore, to read when I was babysitting. Here's a new link for the Unicorn Queen (http://sunblind_dragon.tripod.com/ureview4.html) series. Nice cover scans and summaries, yeah. They only came out in paperback, and they go for outrageous sums on eBay and Amazon Marketplace. I can't believe I put my set in a yard sale in 9th grade. LOL.

I usually tended to read horror books, but I did like "Less Than Zero"! :thumb: That's where my vote goes.

I went with North & South. :) Was pretty good to read, plus I loved the miniseries. ;)

In the 80's, my favorite book was The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton but it was published in 1967...
My favorite 80's bestseller was The Bourne Trilogy by Robert Ludlum but I didn't read that until the late 90's.
