View Full Version : Stock/Aitken/Waterman
Jughead Jones 2-26-02, 09:09 PM I wasn't sure exactly where to post this, so I thought the dance music board would be suitable.
Anyone remember the 3 music pioneers, Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman who produced hits for Bananarama, Rick Astley and Kylie Minogue...many of them could be considered club hits, and I am huge fans.
I was wondering if anyone else liked these producers and am wondering what they are doing now.
Another SAW fan?
- Although I don't like them, I know of at least one man who does on these boards.... so step forward 80strivia, you have an ally!!
80sTrivia 2-27-02, 07:12 AM LOL, Steve!!!
Yes, I'll admit to liking SAW and their stable of artists from the 80s, especially Bananarama, Kylie Minogue, Dead or Alive, amongst others. Why did I like it? It was pure 80s cheese, the songs were mindless and fluffy and they were great to dance to!!! :)

I agree:D
The reason why I liked these hits so much was because they had a good beat! Nothing else can beat that!
And, hey, with all those covers that they did, the original artists of "Venus", "Loco-Motion" and "Celebration" must be rolling in royalties...at least, I hope they would be!
Prefab Sprouter 3-04-02, 09:31 AM Ok, I know I'm only new here but I have to admit that I like Rick Astley!!! Yes I have been outed. Definitely for me it was SAW's finest hour. Definitely the music wasnt deep but their music is like any TV Sitcom, dont look for any deep meaning, switch off your brain and ENJOY!
AS regards what they are up to now, I know that Pete Waterman has been working on the British TV show Pop Idols

I'm sure there are other people here that like Rick Astley as well, Prefab!!! They just aren't courageous enough to admit it!!!

Hey Wonder Twin, I'm proud to admit I like Rick Astley and SAW! They produced one of my favorite Bananarama songs, "More Than Physical"! :thumb:
LOL! Another SAW thread. Rick Astley was great along with alot of other SAW artists. What about Jason Donovan, Sonia, Big Fun or Sinitta?
Big Fun was 'fun'!! I loved S/A/W's work with Bananarama the most!! :thumb: "More Than Physical" is the best ever!!! :)
outofplacechild 4-05-02, 12:03 PM I love their work as producers, and I think they had a great stable of artists. Kylie was good, Bananarama was awesome and I'm not ashamed to say that I'm a Rick Astley fan. "Together Forever" is my favorite song by him.
It's just a shame that SAW aren't a team anymore...We could use their combined talents again...although I think Kylie Minogue has said that she would pass on collaborating with them again.
Sincerely,
John "outofplacechild" Kilduff...
Hey, I liked how she looked back then.

I can't really blame her for feeling that way. I think she is a little more diverse musically now than she was back then. The role as a dance floor diva suits her very well. Her last two albums might have been a step back for her style wise, but the sound is far more interesting now than in her SAW days.
wavemaster 4-05-02, 12:24 PM Stock/Aids/Waterhead? (thatīs how we used to call them here back in the 80s...) :D
They did some pretty good pop productions...at least their success and their stubbornly emphasizing on the first beat proved them right.
Can you remember the "great Rick Astley / Kylie Minogue-controversy", when they were accused that the voices on all Astley / Minogue recordings were sung by only one of them?
S/A/W had big press during this time, saying that if you play a Rick Astley-LP at 45 rpm, the voice sounds like Kylie. To my great amazement, it was quite true...and it worked also the other way round, when you have played a Kylie-7" at 33 rpm.
Honni soit qui mal y pense... ;)
