View Full Version : Favorite TV Dad!!!
80sTrivia 2-25-02, 09:49 PM Since we've already voted for our favorite TV mom, it's time to do the same for TV dads...
I had to go with Charles "Pa" Ingalls. He was the most decent, kind, compassionate and hard working father and husband in all of Walnut Grove. Michael Landon brought so much to the character and he could make anyone cry...
I voted for Cliff Huxtable. I loved the way he would out smart his kids.
I'll never forget the episode where Theo has a lot of money in his hand, thinking it's all spending money. Cliff asks Theo if he plans on having a girlfriend, car, gas etc. and proceeds to take money out of Theo's hand after each yes answer until he has enough left in his hand to barely buy a hamburger. The look on Theo's face was so funny, I was in tears.
Another vote for Cliff Huxtable. Bill Cosby is the ultimate TV dad.
djdaffy1227 2-25-02, 10:20 PM I was waiting for this poll to pop up ... LOL after the who favorite mom one. I voted for Jason.
fiya kraka 2-25-02, 10:26 PM Charles Ingalls is my favorite 'Pa' too. :)
He had so many great qualities. He was goodhearted, supportive, humourous, loving, hard working etc...(I could go on and on) He was truely a great family man. The bond between him and half pint was priceless. I loved when he played the fiddle and the family would all sit around the fireplace. Classic Ingalls:thumb:
Dancingdoll1986 2-25-02, 11:10 PM I voted for Mike Brady.
He was the first TV dad I saw, and most of the time, my dad was like him....he had something to say all the time that didn't make any sense, but still taught a lesson.
angeleyes25 2-26-02, 02:48 AM I was torn betweem Cliff Huxtable and Charles Ingalls but decided on Cliff Huxtable. He was so funny.A sense of humor is big in my book.
Awesome Dude 2-26-02, 04:37 AM I voted for Cliff Huxtable. Cliff was such a funny father and he seemed to always know what to tell his kids to help them no matter what their problems were. He had an enlightened Mr. Miyagi/Yoda quality to him.
Charles Ingalls!! Little House..is one of my all time favorite shows! :p
nolanbuc 2-26-02, 07:09 AM This was a tough choice, but I had to go with Dr. Huxtable! Just too funny!
Charles on Little House!
I still love watching it.
My vote went to Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable. I always wished my dad was like him.
80sTrivia 2-26-02, 05:45 PM Looks like Dr. Huxtable is dancing away with this poll!!! Not a big surprise, really, as he was a hilarious and fantastic dad on the Cosby Show!!! :D
Dancingdoll1986 2-26-02, 10:27 PM *huggles*
Just needed to give you a hug, Michael!!! You have fun polls!!!
Jughead Jones 2-26-02, 11:13 PM I'm gonna have to go with Dan Connor. He's the most realistic dad, and while he may work a blue-collar job, he still loves his kids.

Hee hee! Perfect way to put it :D I love how they lampooned that in the '90s movies.
Growing up as a child of a single mom, and not having my dad in the picture at all, I tended to ignore TV dads. Actually, I think my real favorite was Henry Warnimont on Punky Brewster. ;)
I voted for John Walton as my sentimental favorite. Good night, Mary Ellen!
Had to go with Charles Ingles. To have a dad that was that understanding and loving. Maybe all those things I did in the past wouldn't have happened. And you gotta love that laugh.
Had to go with Dan Connor. Always had a sense of humor. Even during serious moments, he always found a way afterwards to use it and sometimes teach the kids a lesson. Charles Ingalls came in a close second.
Like everyone else has said, he is just so funny. And he is a big kid at heart. Plus he's loaded. (Wish I had rich parents!)
Nikki_91 2-28-02, 06:23 PM I voted for Cliff Huxtable, he was so funny when he would try to teach Theo lessons in life. Like the one time that Theo thought it would be easy in the real world and he came back home and they had Rudy as the bank manager and stuff like that. Those were classic!
John Walton for me...thought he was a saint for having so many kids!!
would have went for Al Bundy if he was there
Micky
80sTrivia 3-01-02, 08:55 AM I can't believe I forgot to add Married... With Children's Al Bundy to the poll!!! :D Of course, he was sadly lacking in parenting skills and the Bundys were the most dysfunctional family to ever hit prime time tv. He certainly made me laugh, however!!!
I voted for Charles Ingalls! I grew up watching "Little House On The Prairie" and I thought Charles was honest and fair, he was a great dad without any hang-ups! :thumb:
80sTrivia 3-03-02, 07:26 AM I'm just surprised that nobody has voted for Blake Carrington!!! ;) I guess those multi-millionaire oil barons just don't make good fathers!!! :D
I went with Cliff Huxtable, because he had that mix of humor and kindness that every kid should get to grow up with. :)
Charles Ingalls was an awesome dad, too, though, so he'd be second choice for me. ;)

I agree! Dan Connor is more realistic and lots of us can identify with their family more than some of the other families that were on other sitcoms.
80sTrivia 3-04-02, 07:37 AM Speaking of Dr. Huxtable, did anyone else catch the Cosby Show marathon on Nick at Night yesterday? It brought back some great and funny memories and I definitely see why Cliff is the undisputed winner of the Favorite TV Dad poll!! :)
scott28883 3-04-02, 04:55 PM I voted for the seaver character with mr C a close second. I like bill cosby but I really didnt care for cosby show. I am a big fan of john goodman but I HATE, HATE, THE rosanne(Spelling show). thats my editorial for today.

I want my two dollers!
I voted for Mr. Cunningham!
I always liked "Happy Days"!
And often wished my life was like that!
I voted for Mike Brady. I loved that show. Most of the time my dad was very even tempered like Mr. Brady. I'm not sure I ever saw either of them get mad (OK, maybe my dad once or twice, but he was still very calm about it.);)
Greenway88 4-16-02, 01:20 PM Charles Ingalls, he always sacrificed for his family and taght them correct principles.
Howie Cunningham all the way!
Christine 4-16-02, 02:35 PM I voted for Mike Brady from the Brady Bunch. :)
ElectricYouth 11-09-02, 02:18 AM I don't know what it was, but mine was a tie between Steven Keaton from "Family Ties" and Jason Seaver from "Growing Pains". This stems from the fact that those were my two of my most favorite 80s sitcoms.
Rhelawen 11-10-02, 11:31 AM I voted for Charles Ingalls. Many of his qualities reminded me of my own father (who also used to play the violin for us in the evenings :D). I still love watching 'Little House' when I can.
Shortie Blonde 11-12-02, 03:58 PM Mr. Cunningham ROCKS! :D
surfnut 11-18-02, 08:03 PM I went with Dr. Huxtable. He just seems to be the kind of dad I would have liked to have...
80sTrivia 11-18-02, 10:36 PM I noticed that no one voted for the rich guys, Mr. Drummond and Blake Carrington! I guess having money doesn't make you a great father! :)

Have you ever seen how the kid's on different strokes turned out, it doesn't surprise me no one voted for Mr Drummond:D
One father who who really impressed me was Kevin Arnolds father on the Wonder Years. Sure he was cranky but he appeared more human than most tv dad's, he had his faults wasn't perfect , but more realistic than most of what you see on television

Very true, Cal, very true! They turned out to be the most messed up bunch of kids in television history!
snoops71 12-18-02, 05:35 PM I voted for Cliff Huxtable. Back in high school, everyone wanted a Dad like him.
I voted for Cliff Huxtable. Back in high school, everyone wanted a Dad like him. I also like Dr. Drummond and Pa Walton. They were cool too. Cliff was just so much more of a clown. He was just too funny. PLUS, I look like Lisa Bonet...
ShereKahn 12-19-02, 05:11 AM Cliff Huxtable, the man every Dad should aspire to be. I have always loved Bill Cosby though. As a matter of fact earlier this evening I watched Bill Cosby: Himself again and was dying laughing and marveling over the mans ability to make me choke from laughing so hard and the only swear word in the whole show is "damnit" and by my count, four times.
Aeryn221 12-29-02, 02:55 AM Steven Keaton!!!Love the show and I'm a bit of a hippie myself!
Glenn Gulia 1-01-03, 09:46 PM Where's Al Bundy he gets my vote.
MizKitty 1-02-03, 01:32 PM jason seaver, because he reminds me of my uncle jon and they both have the same job. :)
whistledog 10-24-04, 02:12 AM Jason Seaver
Gotta support those Canadians :thumb:
80sTrivia 10-24-04, 08:50 AM Looks as if Dr. Huxtable has taken this poll by a considerable margin... :thumb:
galaga-girl 10-24-04, 06:47 PM I wanted to choose Al Bundy  But I went with Dan from Roseanne. It was one of my fav shows, and Dan was a cool dad :thumb:
HouTexGurl 10-24-04, 07:35 PM Jason Seaver/ Growing Pains was/is my fav!
KimJoy69 10-25-04, 10:34 AM Al Bundy would be my favorite but since he wasn't on the list, I went with Dan Connor... 2nd favorite!
Tanya1976 11-15-04, 12:41 AM Steven Keaton!
stlkev70 11-15-04, 01:05 AM Cliff, he reminds me of myself as a Dad!
80's fanatic 11-25-04, 11:43 PM I picked Charles Ingalls :)
whistledog 11-25-04, 11:46 PM Tony Micelli from Who's the Boss was a fun loving dad :thumb:
Hemicidal 11-26-04, 11:08 AM Herman Munster
Sea-ver
Sea-ver
Alan Thick has always been funny, and a decent hockey player too.
app4dstn 1-21-05, 02:33 PM - Simpson, Homer Simpson, he's the greatest guy in history... from the town of Springfield, he's about to hit a chestnut tree D'OH!. my favorite enduring father/son image is when Homer's doing barbcue and calling out to Bart, "More mesquite, boy!"..... Bart replies "Mesquite it is!" (and throws a tire onto the fire). perfectly sums up the dynamic between me and my son
- the father dinosaur on the short-lived show w/ animatronic dinosaurs where the toddler clunks the father on the head with the frying pan... "Gotta love me! I'm the baby!". (perfectly sums up the dynamic i had way back then... our greatest McDonalds happy meal toy ever was a figurine with a swinging frying pan). i thought this father character (was his name Earl?) was one-in-the-same with the father on The Wonder Years (another favorite)
- Fred Flinstone (my ex father in law); Al Bundy (every trapped guy's projected self.... his 1-way talks with the dog perfectly summed up the dynamic i had during unfun times); Ozzy struggling to use every brain cell to utter 'bloody magicians' (preview of the future) in the pepsi commercial
FrankBooth 1-28-05, 02:16 PM I guess you never watched much Full House.
If you did, you would know that Danny Tanner is
THE GREATEST TV DAD EVER :thumb:
but I sure love me some Micheal Landon so he got my vote.
