I saw that commercial on tv saying that they were re-releasing ET for it's 20th Anniversary on March 22nd. I loved that movie and I cried at the end. Is anyone going to check it out?

I'll be checking out the DVD. That way, I'll be able to see the guns and hear the line "Penis Breath".

They're both being taken out of the new version, but will be included in the original version when E.T gets its DVD release.

Sincerely,

John "outofplacechild" Kilduff...

At least I heard they'd be editing out the "Penis Breath" line. Please don't quote me on that...

I will definitely be hitting the movie theatres to see the 20th Anniversary re-release of E.T. and I can't wait!!! I loved seeing this movie in the theatre as a little boy, so I'm looking forward to re-experiencing it!!!

We have ET on Video. I would like to go see it at the theater again, too. (Even though they're making it "P.C.")

I haven't posted here in a while. Everything looks so different.

I am probably going to see ET at the theater. I've always liked it.

I will buy it on DVD.. it would be a great movie to add to any collection! I probably won't see it in the theatre, though...
John... you are so right, they have replaced the guns in the movie with cell phones... are they adding more footage as well?

Either way... I can't wait to see it!

I may see it again in the theaters...it's been a long time since I saw ET so I don't remember it. The ET ride at Universal Studios is pretty cool though, especially when ET says your name at the end of the ride!

Isn't this the one that was edited? Like they took out the guns or somthing? If it is, then I won't see it, I would hate to see a great classic like ET destroyed by PC. :(

I will probably go see "E.T." at the cinema. I saw it in Japan when I was kid and all the Japanese subtitles got in the way, I'd like to see it free of subtitles.

About the changes to "E.T.", I read that it is getting favorable reviews with test audiences and that they approve of the changes. I don't like tampering with films, I'm completely against it, unless it's additional footage filmed during the original time of production. At least the DVD will give viewers a choice, to see the new enhanced version or the old classic that I prefer! :thumb:

Well it's Steven Spielberg's movie, so ultimately he can do whatever he wants to his movie. It's not the times that have changed, it's Speilberg that has changed. I think becoming a parent has really had a bad affect on Speilberg and George Lucas as well. When these guys became parents, they became ridiculously soft. Now they're ALWAYS concerned about putting out bad images that will harm kids. Well what do the F.B.I chase people with? Guns or cell phones? And he'll have to digitially insert those big brick like cell phones from the '80s.

Taking out the guns in E.T. and ommiting the line "penis breath!" is because Spielberg is concerned about the effect it will have on his kids and all kids in general. Lucas changed Star Wars in the Special Editions and had Greedo shoot Han Solo first, instead of Solo shooting Greedo first as it originally was. Again, because of his kids. Lucas has also said that he wished he could change the scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark when Indiana Jones shoots the big guy with the sword. Since Spielberg directed that film for Lucas, I'm sure he'll agree and take the gun out. These images didn't have a bad affect on kids before, so what makes Spielberg and Lucas think they will now?

Very well said Vincent!

Unfortunately, Spielberg can do what he wants and if he wants to make changes for the sake of children, that's fine, but at least preserve the original release in some form of viewing, so to give, me, the viewer a choice, don't make the choice for me.

I too read about the "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" changes and that is a shame! To reiderate, I don't like tampering. For example, I don't even approve of Ted Turner's colorization of classic black & white films! It's criminal!

I don't like the changes either. The rotten thing for us fans is that it's hard for any of us to argue when the person who actually made the film is doing the changing. It's Spielberg that's changing his own film. This was the same problem with the Star Wars Special Editions, it wasn't some new guy that came and added in new scenes like Greedo shooting first, it was director George Lucas doing all the changes. So even though most of us are upset about this, it would be easier to get mad and protest all this if it was some new person just came along and started messing around with E.T. or Star Wars.

Anyone going to see the movie today? Even though I don't like taking out the guns and ommiting the "penis breath!" line, I'm intrigued about seeing the movie on the big screen.

I just won some free tickets to the movies from one of my local radio stations, so I'm going to go see ET. I've seen it before, but probably somewhere around 10 years ago and I was too young to remember it very well. I'm really interested to see the new special effects and also to see it on the big screen. :) :thumb:

I was excited about this release, and earlier said I would probably see it, but now I've heard they changed a lot or E.T., the actual alien, into CGI. Now, I'm no prude to CGI, it's great, but the original was just fine and I'd like to remember it that way! :)
