View Full Version : Favorite TV Mom!
80sTrivia 2-22-02, 01:26 PM Okay, now it's time to decide which TV mother you secretly wished was your own!!! :)
Since I really loved all of the TV moms listed in this poll, it was heart-wrenching to make a decision!!! ;) I decided that I would vote for the sainted Miss Elly from Dallas. I mean, she would have to have been a true saint to put up with JR, now wouldn't have she? But her love for her devilish, deceitful and conniving son never waned for a moment. I wish my mother could be so forgiving of my peccadilloes!!! :D
Awesome Dude 2-22-02, 03:56 PM I think Carol Brady is the best mom of the bunch. She's just the mom's mom. You can picture her taking the kids out to soccer practice, cub scout meetings, everything. She always knew what to tell Greg, Peter, Marcia and Jan. When I still see Florence Henderson doing one of her infomercials, I think of her as my mom and I suspect a great majority of America and the world does.
On a side note, I think Maggie Seaver is the hottest mom on that list. She's the kind of hot mom that one of your friends had, or that neighbor mom that you always dreamed of bedding.
I'm from Texas. Need I say more.
Iluvthe80s 2-22-02, 09:21 PM Me being the big "Partridge Family" fan that I am, I had to go with Shirley Partridge.
angeleyes25 2-22-02, 09:30 PM Maggie Sever.Elyse keaton would come in second.I didn't like The Partrige Family although I think I was to young to remember it and I remember watching Dallas but I was young and I don't remember much of the mom's character on there.
I went with Elyse Keeton. Loved that show. :):)

I could never get into The Partridge Family either. I never understood the appeal of this show. It was so garishly '70s. Since I hardly see it in reruns, I get the feeling most of America feel the same way. I mean Susan Dey was hot on L.A. Law in the '80s, but this show was just plain ugly. It's not like those other old shows from the '60s and '70s like Gilligans Island, I Dream of Jeannie, or Brady Bunch.
Dancingdoll1986 2-23-02, 02:38 AM Call me an old fashioned girl, but I went with Norma Arnold of The Wonder Years!! I hope that I can one day be just like her!!

I always thought that Kevin's mother, Norma, on the Wonder Years was the perfect mother. She was always so sweet and understanding, especially seeing that the Dad was such a poothead!!! :p
That 80z Girl 2-23-02, 04:31 PM I voted for Claire Huxtable. She was a successful lawyer with 5 children who had a wonderful marriage. I always loved the ways in which she and Cliff handled situations regarding the kids. They were handled in a very loving way. It was very obvious the kids had deep respect for their parents. She knew how to put Cliff in his place if he needed it, too.
Although, I would've voted for Roseanne if she had been on the list. That woman just cracks me up!
Nikki_91 2-23-02, 05:40 PM It was a tough choice..I wanted to vote for Maggie and Elyse..but in the end, I think I was more of a "Growing Pains" fan, so Maggie got my vote.
Caligula 2-23-02, 05:58 PM My all time favorite was June Cleaver from Leave it to Beaver, I still chuckle to this day when I think about her saying
"Ward, Don't you think you were a little hard on the Beaver last night":D
This wasn't an easy choice to make. I picked Carol Brady because she could handle all of those kids and didn't go crazy.
My next choice would be Maggie Seaver, I think.

Oh, Cal, you are so twisted!!!
I guess I'm a little surprised that Miss Elly of Dallas is currently in the lead!!! :D I thought one of the more glamorous TV moms would take all the votes!!!
Silveradocruiser 2-24-02, 08:10 AM Miss Elly's my favourite! All the stuff she had to deal with....
Elyse Keaton comes close second, one of my fave shows!! Besides...I always thought she was kinda hot...:naughty:
80sTrivia 2-24-02, 08:42 AM A mother that I should have added to the poll was Sophia Petrillo, Dorothy's mother on The Golden Girls!!! She was just too hilarious and always saying something mean to Dorothy, but you never doubted for a moment just how much she loved her daughter!!!

I can't argue with that!! She was totally hilarious!!
That 80z Girl 2-24-02, 12:38 PM Sophia was a good mom. I want to be like her when I'm a "golden girl"
djdaffy1227 2-24-02, 12:45 PM If Sophia was on the poll I would have picked her but I went with Norma on The Wonder Years. She seemed to be the most realistic of all the moms listed. I woud have liked to have her as a mom if I didn't already have the best mom on the face of the Earth.....and beyond :)
80sTrivia 2-24-02, 05:20 PM Wow... I guess I should have posted Sophia from The Golden Girls in the poll for Favorite TV Mom, as she might have won!!! :)
Dancingdoll1986 2-24-02, 06:15 PM If you had done that, I would have been SOOOOOOOOO torn!!!
ImSoooSure 2-24-02, 07:03 PM Miss Elly is winning so far!?!? Wow! I love Mrs. C. She is so funny.
fiya kraka 2-24-02, 08:10 PM I went with Elyse. :)
80sTrivia 2-25-02, 12:27 PM Another TV mom that I neglected to add to the poll... Roseanne!!! I always thoughts that she was one of the more realistically portrayed Moms on television during the 80s!!!
I went with Clair Huxtable. Elyse Keaton was second. :)
I went with Claire. Dealing with those 5 children, she still had time to entertain and have fun. They always had fun when the whole family would sing to a song. That was great.
djdaffy1227 2-25-02, 02:13 PM 80strivia,
Maybe you could make a second poll and then pit the two winners against each other in a third poll to see who is #1

That's a good idea, DJ... I'll just have to compile another list of great TV moms; I already have Sophia and Roseanne to include!!! :)
Marge Simpson would have been a great TV mom too.

Marge is another Mom to add to the Best Of list. To put up with Homer and Bart, she's a candidate for sainthood...
I voted for Clair Huxtable, she was a class-act all the way! I always wanted her to be as understanding as she was with me! Oh, how tv is a fantasy! I love it so! :thumb:
80sTrivia 3-03-02, 07:29 AM This is a tighter race than I thought it would be, and it's a toss up between Elyse, Clair, Mrs. Brady and Miss Elly!:)
OK, out of these choices, I went with Mrs. Cunningham. If Roseanne had been an option, she'd have been my choice. Yes, she was loud and annoying, but she was hilarious!! :D
At least they didn't live in a small palace with great careers and perfect kids...that's unrealistic. How many people do you know that have all the money they'll ever need, a great house, and an ultra-successful career that still leaves them time to raise picture perfect children? Don't we all wish it was that easy?
Sophia on the Golden Girls was funny as all get out, too. :)
scott28883 3-04-02, 05:00 PM I voted for maggie seaver because she was HOT, HOT, HOT on that show.:D :goofy: :p
_____________
STALKER of nikki 91!!!!!!!!!!!!!;)
I voted for Carol Brady. She was great....and she managed to get her new husband to keep the live-in housekeeper when they got married! I'm sure Carol was too busy trying to keep up on all the new fashions to have time to do bothersome chores like cooking and cleaning.
I voted for Kevin Arnolds mom. She was always so nice to him, always trying to shield him from his A$$HOLE of a dad. Plus she always had that MILF quality.

 !!! Just like Stiffler's mom, eh? I always thought that Maggie Seaver was more of a milf!!! ;)

I guess I'm just out of touch, but what does "MILF" mean?
I agree that Maggie Seaver was pretty. So was Stiffler's mom.

Milf was an acronym used in American Pie to describe Stiffler's mom, Mother I'd Like to... uh, well, you can figure out the rest... :)
Had to go with, Mrs. C. She's a ditz, much like my own Mom. :)
CinderGirl 3-13-02, 06:50 PM I wanted Elyse Keaton to be my mom! :)
Greenway88 4-16-02, 01:22 PM Elyse Keaton
Shirley Partridge...I had the hots for her! :naughty:
Christine 4-16-02, 02:36 PM My vote goes to Carol Brady from the Brady Bunch - the "perfect" mom. :)
80sTrivia 1-09-03, 08:43 AM Thought that I would BUMP this to the top for the newbies to vote, since the fave Dad was recently bumped! :thumb:
Caligula 2-03-03, 02:18 AM Maggie Seaver was hot IMHO
i voted for Norma Arnold. she was a cool mom..
80'sNostalgic 3-02-03, 01:51 AM Norma Arnold.
Subtle, but a great mom.
I had to vote for Mrs. C, she was the coolest.
'80s Aztec 3-03-03, 01:51 AM Best TV Mom? This is an easy 'un. The winner? None other than...
Nancy Reagan.
rainbow115 3-03-03, 08:47 AM I like Maggie Seaver and Norma. I couldn't pick just one:)
javajane 3-06-03, 01:20 PM How kewl was Shirley Partridge...the ultimate 70s feminist role model! She had no hubby, talented and a successful career and managed to do it all with a boat load of kids -- and dinner was on the table and that house was clean. She Rulz!

, 80s Aztec!!!
I'll Just Say No to that!!! ;)
'80s Aztec 3-08-03, 09:28 PM Michael,
Come on, she sat on Mr. Ts lap at Christmas and delivered an anti-drug message to Arnold Jefferson's class on Diff'rent Strokes. Her kid got himself on Saturday Night Live (in his underwear, no less.) Her other kid wrote a spiteful "tell-all" book about her. She gave her husband a Ford pickup for Christmas. She got several cabinet members, Donald Regan, to name one, fired. There were even rumours the she was 'intimate' with Sinatra for chrissakes. She coined the very phrase you yourself used to try and deny the obviuos.
None of your other TV moms even comes close. Her eight year run was a smash. Would there even have been a Dynasty without the stylish and formidable Mrs. R.? I'll answer that one for you, no, there would not.
80sTrivia 3-08-03, 10:25 PM I can't argue with you there, 80s Aztec!!! Nancy deserves her props for raising a slew of messed-up kids and for helping Ronnie with the Presidency by consulting with her astrologist! :) :thumb:
'80s Aztec 3-08-03, 10:52 PM Dude, I so spaced the astrologist thing! Now, I'm even more adamant.
Shortie Blonde 3-08-03, 11:10 PM Mrs. C!!:D
Culture Club Freak 3-16-03, 05:03 PM Mrs cunningham ,Ilove Happy Days! :verycool:
Rhelawen 3-16-03, 09:18 PM My vote went to Miss Elly. :)
'80s Aztec 3-18-03, 11:32 PM Though I'm sticking with Nancy Reagan as the best TV Mom Ever, I thought I'd better at least mention that both Marion Ross (Mrs. Cunningham) and Julie Kavner (Marge Simpson) graduated from San Diego State University, my Alma Matter. They are both Aztecs, too. I imagine nobody else cares, I just wanted to represent a little.
whistledog 10-24-04, 02:09 AM Maggie Seaver. I always thought she was attractive. She was one hot Momma :thumb:
Michelle_TAV 10-24-04, 06:37 AM It HAS to be Clair Huxtable...she was just a caring and understanding Mom with a hysterically funny sense of humor - Just like my real mom!
80sTrivia 10-24-04, 08:47 AM I'd totally forgotten about this poll. Looks like Mrs. C. is still in the lead... :)
Tanya1976 11-10-04, 02:25 PM It's a toss-up between Elyse Keaton (b/c I loved her hippie ways) and Claire Huxtable (b/c she had a handle on her family). Both were working women, which I only knew in my family. They were also very strong.
