Wow what was I thinking during the 80's?
Here is a list of some records/tapes that cracked my friend up (shes 18, im 30)..

Samantha Fox album (hey I thought she was cool hehe)
Adam & the Ants (one of the best christmas presents i ever did receive!)
Nena Hagen (ok not alot of people know who she is and that could possibly be a good thing haha)
Ghostbusters album (it was a gift, I swear)
My whole album collections of these artists: Duran Duran, Madonna, Bananarama, Culture Club, Icehouse and INXS..
But once we got to the singles the real fun begun..
We counted 9 Kylie Minogue singles (so I like her lol)
Cher -If I could turn back time/just like jesse james
Transvision Vamp - tell that girl to shutup/I want your love
Divine - You think your'e a man (I have no idea why I still have this lol)
Frida - I know theres something going on (he I'm a huge ABBA fan its kinda expected right?)
The Firm - Star Trekkin (Oh god why??)
Malcolm McLaren - Buffalo Gals (It was catchy at the time http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif )
New Edition - Candy Girl (oh who could resist those cute kids?)
And my huge collection of 12" vinyl remixes lol...

To make it more fun I got out the old record player and played some of them and sang the words out really loud and did the 80s dance hahaha (ya know the one were all guilty of doin)

I just had to share this with you all http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif I've not stopped laughing all night...now were going to find those 80s photos we all try to hide from people but never seem to want to destroy LOL!!

I secretly think she envies me http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

Ha ha! I got the same reaction from my little brother (I'm 24, he's 15) when I showed all of my old LPs: Olivia Newton-John - Greatest Hits Vol. 2; Cyndi Lauper - She's So Unusual; Madonna - Like A Virgin; Michael Jackson - Thriller; Lipps, Inc - Funkytown (single 45); Cinderella - Night Songs; Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet. He pulled the old vinyls out their covers and looked at them in amazement...classic moment! Then I got the look that I'm sure many of us have gotten from our younger friends and/or siblings: "You actually listened to this stuff on this plastic things?!"

That's not the worst of it! When my sister moved out, she left behind her old portable record player. On it, it says "Disco '80" and has a male and female shadow figures all over it dancing, as well as blue, green and yellow strobe/disco lights in front that "dance" to the record being played. How much do you think this is worth?

A nice chunk of change I would think http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//eek.gif I got a bunch of singles up in the attic....the one that got a chuckle out of me was, 'Burning Down the House' by Talking Heads http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif For some freakish reason, I loved the video way back when http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//tongue.gif

I still have a box full of albums and 45's from the 80's. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif Just need a record player so that I can play them. Went through them about a year ago and found stuff that I can't even remember. Really want to listen to some of it. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

I know what you mean about the amazement of those unfortunate souls in the CD age. My daughter saw a turntable at Best BUy and was asking what it was. I told her that was what we used to play records on. She asked "what's a record?" I had to explain that it was a piece of plastic that had little tiny grooves in it, and there was a needle that ran into the grooves and made music come out. She looked at me, and said "No dad, really what is this thing?" Man do I feel old.

Oh no! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif Well, as long as there are DJ's in the world, records will stick around (unless they come up with a way to scratch and re-sample CD's) http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//tongue.gif

I still like LP's...nothing like that good 'ol record static http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif

OK, I know you guys are going to remember this, at least most of you will. Remember when McDonalds sent out the little plastic vynal (well, not really, vynal, but it played) album with that song on it? It came in the newspaper or something. You know it: "Big Mac, McDLT, a Quarter Pounder with some cheese...". Don't act like I'm the only one who remembers that!! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

I still have a working turn table, and lots of good records and 45's from the 80's. I am not ashamed http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif
Its all in storage now, but as soon as I move....
Have to say, though, that the quality of sound from a c.d. is much better than a scratchy record. I did try to take good care of my records though.

speaking of records, I have an old Boy George Vinyl with a color picture on the record. I have never played it. (I got it as a gift from someone after telling them that I had gone to a Boy George concert). I wonder if it's worth anything.

I bought a single back in the 80's of Def Leppard's - Animal...only to get home and find A side was Billy Idols - Sweet 16 and the B side was the B side to Def Leppard. The sticker on the A side said Def Leppard.
The day after I purchased it I took it back the guy behind the counter of the record store offered me $5 there and then lol. (I paid about $2.29 for it). That was back in 1986/7. Wonder what a record mistake is worth now? Its kept in original condition and in a plastic cover http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

Would be interesting to find out...anyone else stumbled across rarities like this?

Michaellover,
I have that McDonald's record. I burned it onto a C.D. recently. Is it the one where you could win $1,000,000 if they sing the song without messing up?
I have over 3,000 45's, 1,000 albums, 1,000 12" singles, 3,000 C.D.'s in my collection. VIVA LA VINYL!

I have about 500 record albums, 50 12-inch singles, and 100 45's. I also still have a turntable. I collect vinyl albums of the 80's. Some of my stuff I have had since it was brand new and some of it has been found second hand. I started collecting seriously in 1991. I was starting to get fed up with the newer music and set out to get the records I didn't get when I was younger.

Hey iluv80s,
Be careful. From one record collector to another. It is impossible to stop! I compare collecting to having a drug problem, only difference is I have something to show for my addiction. Just when you think you have it all.......something else comes to mind! I started collecting in about 1988 or 1989 seriously and will never stop. I currently have, like I said before, close to 4,000 hot 100 songs of the 80's and will not be happy until I have them all.

Nice to have another record collector aboard!

Yea DJ, it has been hard for me to stop. There is always something else I need. Now I think i'm going to start collecting 80's memorabilia too. There is a record convention that comes here twice a year and I litteraly spend hours there.http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif

I starteda record collection around 1991. There was a used record store near where I went to college but they have since closed down. Now the only used records I find are at yard sales and they are mostly from the 40s era. I was able to purchase, before that store closed, GnR Use your Illusion I&II records never opened and AC/DC Dirty Deeds with the charactures of the group on cover including on Scott And a Jethro Tull book style record put out in I think, without looking, Germany. I have most of Zeppelins records also. I LOVE the art work on records-can't compare now Which remindes me. Does anyone remember wen Poison put out that one record (name?) where the woman had a long tongue and the censors banned the first cover saying the tongue was to long?
