View Full Version : Favorite Cyndi Lauper Song:
80sTrivia 2-20-02, 09:11 PM Which Cyndi Lauper song was your favorite?
My favorite Cyndi Lauper song of all time is "I Drove All Night". It's hard to go wrong with a great Roy Orbison tune, and Cyndi's version is amazing and soulful. I think it should have been a bigger hit for her when the song was released in '88... :)
Iluvthe80s 2-20-02, 09:15 PM "All Through The Night" would have to be my favorite.
fiya kraka 2-20-02, 11:19 PM Mine is 'Time after Time'.
djdaffy1227 2-20-02, 11:58 PM True colors. I put it on a friendship tape I gave to my friend years ago :)
angeleyes25 2-21-02, 12:20 AM Girls Just Want To Have Fun with She Bop a very close second!I like the fast songs better than the slow ones.
All Through The Night was my favorite song of hers.

Yeah, what angeleyes said.:D
majorfan11 2-21-02, 10:15 AM I went with "Time After Time"
Dancingdoll1986 2-21-02, 12:43 PM I love I drove all night............I just loved the music of it.
"Time after Time," which is also my favorite video of all time. Even when I was nine, that video made me cry.
I like pretty much everything on the list though. :)
What about "Goonies R Good Enough?" LOL
The80sAngel 2-21-02, 01:42 PM "All Through The Night", with "I Drove All Night" second and "Time After Time" in third place.
80sTrivia 2-21-02, 02:55 PM Mary, I was almost tempted to include "Goonies R Good Enough" in the poll... almost !!! Not really her finest effort, I must say!!!
LOSTNTHE80S 2-21-02, 02:59 PM Girls just wanna have FU-UUNNN! :lol I still like it!
Shortie Blonde 2-21-02, 04:42 PM When I grow up, I wanna be like Cyndi. "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" kicks Spice Girls' "Wannabe" any day.
SeanTheGoonie 2-21-02, 05:02 PM I just love the song "Time After Time" even though it is a deviation from her usual musical style.
Nikki_91 2-21-02, 05:05 PM I voted for "Time after Time", that's one of my favorite songs by her! I also loved "I drove all night" and "True Colors"..those songs were cool. I was watching a tribute to John Lennon on TNT, I guess it was in September, and she did a really good version of "Strawberry Fields" in Central Park. It was really great.
Mine's Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. :)
Michael, this poll is just too hard to answer!. I love all the songs... I've voted for "I drove all night", but I could have chosen "time after time" or "girls just want to have fun" or...
I picked I DROVE ALL NIGHT. I believe Cyndi Lauper is probably THE single most underrated female vocalist of the 80s. If there was never an MTV and you just went on songs alone, she would have garnered so much more respect. Twelve Deadly Cyns is probably my favortie "best of" cds of all time.
this charming man 2-22-02, 10:58 AM True Colors without any hesitation.
"She Bop"
How can you not like a song about a girl masturbating. That's just not normal.lol
Christine 2-22-02, 12:06 PM I voted for "Time After Time". 2nd place goes to "Girls Just Wanna..."

 LOL, Preppie... I was wondering when someone was going to bring this up!!!
COOL BREEZE 2-22-02, 02:30 PM Well, since there wasn't an Other choice. I went with "Time After Time" But my favorite song of her's is "There's A Hole in My Heart That Goes Alll the Way to China" from the "Vibes" soundtrack!
If you havent seen this movie and your a Cyndi fan your missing a classic! It has Cyndi and Jeff Goldblum as psychics hired by Peter Faulk(Columbo) to go to South America to find a kidnapped boy. But there is no boy he's really trying to find a mysterious treasure. It's hilarious!
One of my other Cyndi favorites is "I'm Gonna Be Strong" from her album under the name Blue Angel. She redid it for her 12 Deadly Cyns CD. I t really shows off her singing talent! The Blue Angel(pre solo) LP is fantastic! Some of the songs are done in a
50's style! Say,does anyone know what movie this is?
I saw it years ago.It starred Cyndi and about all I can remember about it was there was gambling ,a race track, bad guys, and a deserted hotel I think in the Everglades that had a spaceship theme. Anyway, Cyndi set down at a piano and sang a couple of songs I haven't heard her sing since! Can anybody help?
COOL BREEZE
"You're the first guy Louise has ever liked" "Louise?" "She's my spirit guide who died and talks to me from the great beyond in my mind"-Cyndi to Jeff from "Vibes"
80sTrivia 2-22-02, 07:05 PM I must admit that I keep my CD of Cyndi's greatest hits, "12 Deadly Cyns", in my car and I pop it in at least once or twice a week. It's one of my favorites, too, Jasper...
Roemello 2-22-02, 11:31 PM How'd I miss this vote  'Time after Time' for me with 'She-Bop' a close second...like was said previously, how could ya not like it given the subject matter?;)
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was an anthem in the 80's. lol Just a great song. :D
This one always stirs emotions in me when I hear it. Reminds me of some good times when I first left home (Getting away from the parents! Woooohoooo!!)
But gotta make a special mention for "Hole in my heart that goes all the way to China" Cool song
I voted for "Time After Time" but it wasn't an easy choice because Cyndi Lauper did a lot of great songs.
VioletFoxx 2-26-02, 01:29 AM So many great songs, only one vote. Sigh. I voted for Time After Time. It's one of those songs that has some very special memories attatched to it for me. All Through the Night and True Colors are right behind though.
That 80z Girl 2-26-02, 01:12 PM OK, that poll was the toughest one to vote in yet! I ultimately chose "She Bop" It just had a fun beat. Of course, when it came out in '84, I was miss Naieve extrordinaire! I don't think I figured out what the song was actually about until 5 years later.
80sTrivia 2-26-02, 04:51 PM Don't feel bad, That 80z Girl... I didn't have a clue what "She Bop" was actually about when it first came out either!!! I mean, who would have thought that sweet and innocent Cyndi would have sung a song about that!!! ;) Madonna, I could see, but not Cyndi!!!
I had to go with "She Bop", this song is pure fun! ;)
Sara Smile 3-03-02, 07:23 AM Time after time. I never really like Girls just wants to have fun.
80sTrivia 3-03-02, 08:01 AM Looks like "Time After Time" has run away with the favorite Cyndi tune poll. Not too surprising, really. It's probably the Cyndi song you hear most often on the radio, after "Girls Just Wanna..." :)
KatieBidwell 3-03-02, 10:04 AM I used to sing All Through the Night while on the bus to and from school!
*Snowflake* 3-09-02, 12:10 AM Hmmmm. . . This is a close one, because I really like "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," "Time After Time" and "True Colors."
Time After Time.. the opening tune is beautiful..and it always gives me chills.. definitely her best song :D
Jughead Jones 3-15-02, 10:08 PM By far the most difficult decision...
...but there was something about "Time After Time" that stood out!
Johnny Z 3-15-02, 11:19 PM I have to go with True Colors. I first heard it heading north for a mountaineering trip in the White Mountains in New Hampshire, and the foliage was in full bloom. It was very appropriate, so it's stuck in my mind ever since. (It also helps that, like "Time After Time," the musical style is so totally different from anything else Cyndi did.)
I went with Time After Time. Best tune she has ever sung! Then, True Colors and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. :)
Steve Savicki 3-30-02, 10:57 AM "She Bop"
Uptempo, danceable, and bouncy.
I voted for Time After Time. A beautiful ballad that has become such an 80's anthem.
Like AngelEyes, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" got my vote with "She Bop" coming in second.
Greenway88 4-12-02, 10:37 AM Change of Heart
Though your poll is missing the all important "Goonies R Good Enough" and Cyndi's great remake of "What's Going On".
Time after time is a really good ballad, so that got my vote.
RetroMan 5-26-02, 02:31 AM Time After Time - absolutely. the chord progression, the melody and Cyndi's unique voice. It is in fact my all time favorite 80's sad love song. Whenever it comes on the radio, I have to stop whatever I'm doing and take it in.
Prefab Sprouter 6-10-02, 06:17 PM Her song True Colours is Beautiful like a rainbow :D
I AM getting old - I thought I had voted here too..... So many songs yet only one vote..and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun gets it :)
Therrall 6-13-02, 08:18 AM I voted for "Time After Time" That song has Always Touched me :)
I though Cyndi looked terrible in her early career with that terrible patchy hair style she had. But when she starred in "Vibes" with Jeff Goldblum she was really quite beautiful.
Those guys who picked on her at school must be kicking themselves now.
DC Rebel 6-14-02, 05:51 PM For some odd reason, I seemed to like Time after Time the best.
BlitzKid 6-17-02, 05:35 AM She bop is my fav!
whistledog 9-20-04, 08:50 PM The Goonies 'R' Good Enough was not on the list :( so I chose 2nd best: She Bop :thumb:
app4dstn 9-21-04, 04:55 PM "money changes everything" (by a slight margin over "i drove all night".... can anyone remember when she performed this on letterman?).
i've made my ears bleed from this one. can't play this one loud enough, ever. hmmm, just realized my 2 faves are covers.... lots of other great ones, as well.
wait! my other favorite is "when you were mine" (there's also a great version of this by NRBQ). 3 covers! i swear, i do like her originals as well.
SouthernImage 9-21-04, 05:00 PM Girls just wanna have fun :D
jillybean 9-21-04, 06:35 PM I honestly can't pick. I love all of her songs. I had She's So Unusual when I was in 4th grade and would dance on the sidewalk with my little boom box listening to it. Time After Time made me cry when I saw the video, still does! I wanted to be Cyndi, she's still one of my idols! I love All Through the Night, When You Were Mine, Money..., Girls..., oh hell, I love just about all of them!!!
ElectricYouth 9-21-04, 09:21 PM Mine would have to be "Change of Heart"... It's got a great upbeat tempo, and I love the sound of the drum machines.
stlkev70 9-21-04, 10:01 PM "She Bop"
She Bop is my personal favorite. But Change of Heart, Time After Time, and I Drove All Night are all great songs.
Tanya1976 11-13-04, 12:10 AM She Bop is her finest fast song while All Through the Night is her finest slow song.
80's fanatic 4-14-06, 11:23 PM Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Time After Time are my favs :)
I had to vote for change of heart because the bangles were the background singers.
Cool Hand Logan 6-03-06, 03:25 PM Gotta go with "Time After Time". Love it.
chooch210 6-03-06, 08:14 PM " She Bop" is my favorite :bouncy:
