American Bandstand was by far the most influential reason I am a music lover today. Without that show, I might never be able to appreciate all the music from the 80's. From Prince and Sheena Easton to Madonna.

From Prince and Sheena Easton to Madonna. 80sTrivia 2-18-02, 06:07 PM I never missed American Bandstand on Saturday afternoons back in the 80s. I simply had to watch it to catch the latest fashion trends, dance moves and musical styles. Everybody did this show back in the day, even the biggest of superstars, from Janet Jackson to Prince to Madonna and Cyndi Lauper! I also had to watch its upstart competition, Dance Party USA, which was way cheezier than AB. Dick Clark will forever be a teenager to me... :) Trixter 2-18-02, 06:21 PM I loved watching American Bandstand after my Saturday morning line-up was over! :) Dick Clark and company had the best singers on the show, and dancers to boot! This show was an American starndard for years, and it is missed! I can't forget to give a shout out to "Soul Train", it had all the best R&B has to offer! :thumb: They were both part of my Saturday afternoon viewing pleasure. :) Iluvthe80s 2-18-02, 07:24 PM I never missed watching American Bandstand on Saturday Mornings. I remember seeing Bon Jovi perform "Runaway" on there along with seeing Cyndi Lauper, Prince, Culture Club, and many more. I remember also that was the first place I ever saw KISS without makeup when I saw the video to "Lick It Up". snoops71 2-19-02, 05:30 PM I too was a huge and loyal "American Bandstand" fan. Watched it every week, along with "Soul Train." They both, along with "Fat Albert," were my Saturday morning ritual for years. Some of the BEST musical acts of all-time were right there. I wrote Dick Clark once, when I was 5. He sent me an autographed postcard back. What a thrill... Can't say anything bad about a guy who answers his mail! Nikki_91 2-19-02, 07:48 PM Wow, that is sooo cool!! Dick Clark came to Austin sometime in the mid 90's when he had his American Bandstand Restaraunt here. It was so cool. They even had a little club in the back..just like the show! ironeagle1 2-19-02, 08:11 PM I liked American Bandstand as a kid. It was always as a Saturday morning staple for a long time. I liked American Bandstand from 1976-1982. The best American Bandstand was with Blondie,The Romantics, The Ramones and Prince. The best though American Bandstand was with the Village People in 1979. My uncle Alex was a regular dancer at American Bandstand for many years dancing the day away. That 80z Girl 2-23-02, 04:52 PM I started watching AB as soon as I was walking and talking. When I was little, I always told my mom that I wanted to be an AB dancer when I was 15. I'm not sure why I said 15. Sounded like a good age, I guess. I never did make it down to Cali to dance on AB. I thought the show would always be on the air. I was very sad when it ended. Several years back, they were showing reruns of it on VH1. I taped a whole bunch of them, so I can watch AB whenever I want to now. |
