View Full Version : Queen Latifah
djdaffy1227 2-17-02, 05:38 PM I really enjoyed her. She was the first female rapper I ever liked. Tommy Boy (her record lable) was supposed to release a greatest hits package of her. Did it ever get released? Does anyone know?
"Ladies first, ladies first...."
sarasunshine 2-18-02, 01:51 PM I heard the same thing. I hope they do release a greatest hits. I'd love to pick that one up.
I actually liked Salt & Pepa first, but then came Queen Latifah! With songs such as "Ladies First" and "Dance For Me" she made her mark in the predominantly male rap scene! Her biggest hit is my favorite "U.N.I.T.Y.", she is beautiful, she is strong, male rappers step off the Queen is in town!"
I haven't heard anythig about a greatest hits, but if it does materialize, I'd pick up a copy! :thumb:
djdaffy1227 2-18-02, 07:35 PM I'm afraid it may not happen, Tommy Boy records is going out of buisness :(
I really like her style.
I caught her talk show a couple of times very interesting.
That women can rap!!
Her words are powerful.
Has Queen Latifah retired from music?
sarasunshine 3-17-02, 11:59 PM I doubt it...she's probalby just taking a break. Maybe working on some movies or something.
djdaffy1227 12-31-02, 12:56 PM I was looking for a greatest hits collection from Parachute Club, which I never found, however, while looking for it, I came across a Queen Latifah greatest hits from Motown records!!! Motown was her second lable. This collection included both, Tommy Boy and Motown hits!!!! I highly reccomend this collection, it is called "She's a queen, A collection of hits".
Queen Latifah is in fact in the new movie "Chicago", on release in the UK this month. I think she plays the part that TV presenter Gaby Roslin plays now in the stage version in the UK.
Prefab Sprouter 1-02-03, 09:37 AM Ah yes Queen Latifah! I loved her music especially U.N.I.T.Y. and her collaboration with De La Soul "Mama Gave Birth to the Soul Children"!!!!!

One bad thing about the greatest hits collection is that on "U.N.I.T.Y." they edit out the word "bitch". I'm all for radio edits but in this song the word "bitch" is a big part of the song. It sounds stupid not to hear it when she says, in her powerful way, "Who you callin' a BITCH!!" and it really means something when she says "You're not a bitch or a ho!" I think this time the editing crew went a little crazy.
Prefab Sprouter 1-06-03, 05:59 AM I agree DJ. I'm all for editing but sometimes a considered outlook is required!
Did you know that Latifah in Arabic means "delicate" ? I just don't picture her as that.
Prefab Sprouter 1-13-03, 08:21 AM I would never, ever, have described Latifah as Delicate!!!
Her girlfriend maybe  but not her.
Prefab Sprouter 1-14-03, 04:32 AM Her girlfriend????????????????????
