View Full Version : Favorite Rock a Billy Song:
80sTrivia 2-15-02, 09:08 PM Which song is your favorite "Rock a Billy" song?
My vote went to Marshall Crenshaw's "Someday, Someway". I just love the uptempo beat of this song. It always puts me in a good mood when I hear this song. Running a very close second is Rocky Burnette's "Tired of Toein' the Line", which is just a great, forgotten classic all-around...
Therrall 2-15-02, 09:51 PM I already said this in another thread but I'll post it here too:D my favorite is "Stray Cat Strut" by the Stray Cats:p
I voted for Lone Justice, though not for the song "Wicked Ways" per se, but for thier collective work. They are true Rock-A-Billy! :thumb:
Caligula 2-15-02, 09:59 PM I picked the only one i like, Cruel to be kind
fiya kraka 2-15-02, 10:26 PM I went with Stray Cat Strut. I know of and like the Stray Cats.
I'm really not familar with rock a billy. I think I'm gonna have to check some of these artists out. Hearing such good things about them, makes me want to know what I've been missing.:)
Iluvthe80s 2-15-02, 10:53 PM I picked "Rock This Town" by The Stray Cats.
VioletFoxx 2-16-02, 01:04 AM Good poll! And a tough one too. Had to go with Marshall Crenshaw's "Someday, Someway". It's hard not to dance around when I hear this, and I'm not one for dancing around in the first place. Close second goes to "Cruel to be Kind", another really great tune.
Tired of Toeing the line: Rocky Burnette
This is an all time classic in my books

You should definitely check out more Rock a billy songs, Fiya! It's a great musical style with a fun rock and roll beat with a slight C&W twang to it!!! :D
Silveradocruiser 2-16-02, 06:14 PM My favourite is "Crazy little thing called love" performed by either Queen, Cheap Trick or Dwight Yokam! "Rock this town" comes pretty close though...:p

80sTrivia 2-16-02, 09:27 PM I'm just glad to see that there are people out there that enjoyed and appreciated Rock a Billy music. I always thought this type of music should have caught on more...
Shortie Blonde 2-16-02, 09:58 PM I chose "Stray Cat Strut". I did that song once for MDI (Maine Dance Institute). MDI, for your info, was a program I did in school for most of my time in Maine. I heard the song and thought it was great. I have the dance on tape. :D
Fireball 2-17-02, 01:00 AM 80s trivia - ya damn right this music should be more appreciated!
There is NOTHIN' like hearing a great music trio thump out some rockabilly - a slappin' upright bass, fast upbeat drums and some sreamin' licks on Gretsch, you just CAN'T BEAT IT!!! Such an underground scene these days that the "mainstream" have forgotten, but than again, I don't grease my hair up and look different so that I can fit into the mainstream, so it's just the way I like! Love people staring and thinkin' "weirdo".
GIDDYUP!!
djdaffy1227 2-17-02, 07:26 PM All good choices but I went with "Tired of toein' the line"
I like a lot of rockabilly. The Stray Cats were one of many that saw it through a resurgence in the early 80s. Shakin' Pyramids were pretty darn good too.
If you like it even a little faster check out The Meteors or King Kurt. Brilliant Psychobilly from the 80s. Next time you're downloading music have a look for King Kurt's version of Mack the Knife or I Gotta See Billy. Meteor's best song for me was always The Wreckin' Crew.
I'm gonna Rock This Town - rock it inside out.....Love the Straycats!! :)
Greenway88 4-11-02, 02:38 PM "Tired of Toein' the Line" by Rocky Burnette

Steve Savicki 4-11-02, 03:42 PM "Stray Cat Strut"
Stray Cats and Rock This Town. Funny song to dance around to.
RetroMan 5-26-02, 03:06 AM Stray Cats - Rock This Town. radical style! outragious hairdos!
I went with "Rock This Town" by Stray Cats. It's uptempo beat gets you going. They have some pretty decent songs.

eaglewoodvigil 4-05-04, 01:53 AM Mine here is Someday Someway by Marshall Crenshaw. Can anyone tell me what is considered a Rock a Billy song? This is the first time I've heard of a term like this.
whistledog 9-18-04, 12:15 AM There wasn't an "other", so I couldn't vote for 'Polecats - John I'm Only Dancing' :(
Of the ones in tha tlist, I picked Crenshaw. I love that song (It's in the movie Night Shift) :thumb:
DJ Midas 9-19-04, 04:20 PM "Rock This Town"
Princess 9-19-04, 05:21 PM Of the choices listed Someday, Someway and Rock This Town. But I also liked Sexy and Seventeen by Stray Cats.
COOL BREEZE 9-19-04, 06:07 PM Some great tunes! I went with "Stray Cat Strut"! I remember hearing this for the first time an saying wow this is really cool! Has all the Rockabilly feels to it! Another good one not listed of theirs is "Sexy and Seventeen"! Another great maybe lesser known 80's Rockabilly artist is Robert Gordon who had a killer guitarist name Chris Spedding! :thumb:
80s Queen 3-10-07, 04:36 PM I voted for Some Day Some Way. It's a great song. Although I must admit that I never thought of either Cruel To Be Kind or Tired Of Toein The Line as rockabilly.
