The original VJ's were:

Alan Hunter
Mark Goodson
Nina Blackwood
JJ Jackson
Martha Quinn

I agree, MTV is rather boring! You can't even see a video these days! :( Nothing but shows!

H*** YEAH! I remember when MTV WAS MTV. I used to be able to name the video, artist, album within 8 seconds (at the very most I might add) I stopped watching MTV......can't even remember how long it's been now. I switched to VH1. I used to just love Alan Hunter! I think I have some of the videos taped on a few tapes somewhere....

MTV should change it's name to Rap & Rerun TV. That's all that's ever on. I loved it when it first started out, but I never watch it anymore, unless I'm flipping through and Daria is on. LOL My son and I like that show. ;)

I have to say, I saw some great videos on MTV X (digital cable channel), and I have finally seen some country videos on VH1 Country, and some GREAT retro videos on VH1 Classics! MTV 2 is OK, but if you like rock, you need to go with X.

I wonder how long it will be before they take these channels over with a bunch of Real WOrld and Dukes of Hazzard repeats. :( Stressful.....lol

We are out of school today and tomorrow for Mardi Gras. My daughter had the television on MTV and they were actually showing Music Videos. *jen faints*

Granted they were mostly gangsta rap, but hey, they were videos.

What I think is really funny,is that when VH1 first came out,me and my friends thought it was just for all those old people, now I watch it all the time.
I guess I'm just one of those old people now:eek:

Yup....I feel old!!

The one thing I like to watch is the Real World, Road Rules and the challanges. I don't know why, but I love the marathons and watch those! I know it's a bit queer....but I get SOOOO sucked into the fighting and the drama...it's funnier than any soap opera I watch! (And, back in '94 and '95, I sent in my application and video to try to get on!!)<--They need more fluff chicks!!!

Tho' I REALLY miss the old MTV. *sigh* Too bad kids today just can't appreciate good old fashioned videos!!

I really liked all of the original MTV VeeJays, especially Martha Quinn and Nina Blackwood (natch!). I had a crush on Martha because she was the cutesy-girl-next-door, while Nina was more 80s Rocker Girl. I can't imagine why the MTV of today would even need VeeJays, as they no longer play music videos...

I know exactly what you mean! I remember making fun of VH1 for showing all that "adult comtemporary" programming. Wow am I eating my words now. I miss the old VJ's. I was fond of Nina especially. Always felt like she was the one I could identify most with. The only reason I ever bother with MTV these days is when there's nothing else to watch. *sigh*

I remember I used to get ticked off when they would stop the videos for "Martha's mailbag" Boy, I'd give anything to have those days of MTV back! I think MTV is just trying to keep up with the youth of every decade. I guess this is what the youth of today want. But who knows, maybe if they put the "M" back in Mtv, they would like it just as much, if not more. Like when we were in our "youth" Even VH1 is going more towards shows rather than videos. They've also been sneaking in a little too much rap for my taste. I still think there should be an All 80's MTV channel. VH1 Classic comes close to those days, but theres just something missing.

I can't get into "Real World/Road Rules", because to me, it takes up time that could be filled by music videos. Please don't hate me, Dancingdoll, it's just that I want it to be all music, no shows.

Then I remember that there's not that much music or music video out there that appeals to me anymore...

And I don't know if I'll ever get VH1 Classic.

I'm trapped. I want my MTV, and I want the emphasis on the *M*, and I want it retro.

My mom disappointed me...she wouldn't let me watch MTV until 1992. By that time, alternative rock and gangsta rap were big and the music I would've liked was gone.

That 80z Girl...too true about VH1 and rap music.

Someone said something to the following effect on "Jump The Shark"..."Yeah, it's good that MTV started playing black artists, but BET could've paid us back and played some Iron Maiden once in a while".

Sincerely,
