View Full Version : Favorite Country Artists Now VioletFoxx 2-10-02, 12:02 AM Not being a great fan of country, I was just curious who ya'll's favorite country artists are nowadays. I just loooove the Dixie Chicks. Hope to catch a live show someday. So, what about the rest of you? nolanbuc 2-10-02, 03:25 AM I like the Dixie Chicks, but i also like the Wilkinsons alot. I also like some bluegrass artists like Alison Kraus. Alot of today's country is too commerical & fake, but some really good stuff is still out there. angeleyes25 2-10-02, 04:15 AM I like Shania Twain and some of Faith Hill's songs but I don't consider them real country more like pop/country. Therrall 2-10-02, 05:07 AM Well I don't really care for most of these newer "pop" Country Artists nowadays, I stick to my favorites from 90's and older. George Strait Alabama Travis Tritt Little Texas Brooks & Dunn Collin Raye(god I love his voice) Randy Travis just to name a few:) Trixter 2-10-02, 06:51 AM Good question Foxxy! :) I like a lot of today's country, but I still like the older artists as well. Here are my current fave's: Reba McEntire (always!) George Strait (always!) Randy Travis (always!) Dixie Chicks Martina McBride Faith Hill Tracy Byrd Toby Keith Cyndi Thompson Tim McGraw Brooks & Dunn Jamie O'Neil Sara Evans Jessica Andrews Lonestar djdaffy1227 2-10-02, 09:27 AM I had a chance to see the Dixie Chicks at the George Straight festival a few years back but hated them so much that I stood in line to meet Jo Dee Messina instead, I don't regret it. Musically they are sound but I can't take that ugly little chick's voice. I CANNOT STAND that Earl song, it is so tasteless. Here are my favorites: George Straight Martina McBride Brad Paisley Brooks and Dunn Garth Brooks (even Chris Gaines) Alan Jackson Clint Black Pam Tillis Doug Stone Jo Dee Messina Lee Ann Womack Tracy Byrd Tracy Lawrence Trace Adkins Toby Keith Travis Tritt Sara Evans Kenny Chesney I suppose the list could go on and on. Silveradocruiser 2-10-02, 11:00 AM My favourites..? Shania (not the "pop-country" kinda songs, even though I like those too!:p ) Faith Hill (Yes, becauese of her VOICE! Mostly, anyways...:naughty: ) Martina McBride Garth Brooks Tim McGraw Jo Dee Messina Dixie Chicks And, of course Dolly!!:D Recker 2-10-02, 12:08 PM Well I'm no country fan really. The only acts I would listen to regularly would be Kenny Rogers or Shania Twain. ValJ 2-11-02, 09:56 PM Martina McBride has one of the most powerful voices in the industry, not just country, but any arena. She has an awesome voice!! I also like Jamie O'Neal. George Strait is great, but his recent stuff seems a little tired....he needs a new sound, or a new song writer. Of course, I love a lot of them, so I'll just discuss them as they come up in conversation! ;) I only like one song by the Dixie Chicks, and that's "You Were Mine", and I wish someone had let a different girl/group sing it. Natalie Maines just annoys me. But I respect that other people love their stuff....they wouldn't be making millions of dollars if everyone felt the same as me, right?? ;) Right! :) Oh, and I don't like Hank Williams, Jr. Sorry to anyone who does! He has two good songs, and he has to mention his name in those, too. Maybe he's afraid he'll forget his own name? majorfan11 2-12-02, 12:17 PM I am not really a big fan of country today. I like country from the early 90s. George Strait Vince Gill Reba McEntire Garth Brooks Brooks and Dunn Alan Jackson Charlie Daniels Band Trisha Yearwood (these are just a few) LOSTNTHE80S 2-12-02, 01:05 PM LONESTAR TIM MCGRAW FAITH HILL MARTINA MCBRIDE TRAVIS TRITT GARTH BROOKS 80sTrivia 2-12-02, 10:27 PM I really enjoy Martina MacBride's music. I think she's very beautiful and extremely talented. Her songs always tell a story, which is something I like. I also like JoDee Messina. She has a unique style and voice that I really like. Who's That Girl? The Ultimate Madonna Trivia Book (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0595210147/qid=1011275246/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_10_3/103-1497262-3724640) djdaffy1227 2-12-02, 10:34 PM I've seen Martina McBride live three times and I just sit there in awe of how powerful she sings :) nolanbuc 2-13-02, 12:08 AM Whoa yeah! That Martina McBride has got some pipes on her, doesn't she? About the Dixie Chicks, they are awesome musicians and they work with a great bunch of song writers, but the lead vocalists voice is a matter of taste, I suppose. I also could not stand that "Earl" song, it was in very poor taste and it exhibited a glaring double standard. Shania is overdone. I am sick of the "girl-power" songs, and sick of hearing how she was so poor she had to forage for roots & berries as a child. And? Now that you're a multi-millionaire should I still care? There are still lots of starving kids out there who can't sing and won't look like her when they grow up. Faith Hill, what can I say? A class act all around. She's a fatastic singer, good-lookin, great mom, she's almost too perfect. I don't much like Tim McGraw's music, but I admired him for being so gracious when his wife's stardom eclipsed his own. Diamond Rio is another group I like listening to, and Rascal Flatts is another pretty good one. Hey, does anyone remember the Kentucky Headhunters? Now THERE was a fun bunch! LOL! Trixter 2-13-02, 05:17 AM Originally posted by 80sTrivia I also like JoDee Messina. She has a unique style and voice that I really like. How could I have forgotten JoDee Messina!!! Geez! Well I have been a fan of JoDee's for a while now. She IS unique, I agree with you there Michael, and she isn't your typical, conventional country singer, she's so much more. JoDee reminds me of a younger Tanya Tucker with her brazen attitude, she does what she wants and that firey red hair completes the package! Her current single "Bring On The Rain" is such a beautiful song and empowering, when the world seems to get you down! :)Sidenote: Tim MaGraw sings back up in "Bring On The Rain". Another one of my favorite artists. djdaffy1227 2-13-02, 12:18 PM How could I have forgotten Tanya Tucker! I love her! As for the Kentucky Headhunters...... "Walk softly on this heart of mine....." They are great as well! VioletFoxx 2-13-02, 11:29 PM Wow! You guys and gals named some great artists! I can't believe I didn't mention Alabama myself. Always did love them. Buc, you whole thing about Shania....so with you on that! Thanks for sharing your faves with me. Maybe one of these days I can get around to hearing more of this genre. I'll definately keep your suggestions in mind. :) ILvBonJovi 3-04-02, 03:41 AM Hey i found the country forum now! ;) George Strait is my fav country male singer. Hes got a wonderful voice and he didnt get such a hot head in becoming a star like alot of singers do. As for my fav female I guess to narrow it down ill have to go with Reba, she seems like such an honest, sweet person, Also she has proved she is very talented by sticking around a couple decades. You guys should check out some newer country artists such as: Lila Mcann Shedaisy Merideth Edwards djdaffy1227 3-04-02, 05:58 PM "Down came a blackbird" by Lila McCann was a GREAT song with a GREAT video, it didn't get the respect it deserved. I like Lila. I have to admit I'm not crazy about SheDaisy, they're not horrible but a little too much on the pop side for me. ElectricYouth 4-03-02, 11:41 AM *sigh* God, these days I have so many favorite country artists. Of course, Reba McEntire is my number 1 favorite. My other favorites include Dixie Chicks, Shania Twain, Faith Hill, LeAnn Rimes and Lonestar. I went and saw them in concert last Friday night and they were AWESOME! (Lonestar that is) djdaffy1227 4-03-02, 12:36 PM I met Lonestar when I worked at the country station here. They were so down to Earth and fun to hang out with!!
