View Full Version : Barbie Confessions
This is an outgrowth of the Aqua (http://www.80sxchange.com/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=45&t=000610) thread in the Member's Lounge. *g*
Girls! Time for Barbie confessions.
My favorite 70s and 80s Barbies/other fashion dolls:
Malibu Skipper (still have)
Fashion Photo Barbie (desperately want)
Pretty Changes Barbie (the one with the wigs)
Western Barbie
Horse Lovin' Barbie (had her horses, jeep, and trailer!)
Any and all Sindy merchandise... the furniture was so much better quality than Mattel's.
Starr... am I the only one who remembers Starr?? She had curly short hair and a high school letter jacket...
Day to Night Barbie, whom I still want to be when I grow up, heh
Golden Dream Barbie - still have - the one with the wire-curling hair and the glam outfits.
Princess Leia - 1978. Still have. Only drawback was that once I took her hair out of the donuts, I could never get it back in. Once in a while, I put Leia up next to my Queen Amidala portrait dolls and have a good cry, LOL!
Sweet Roses P.J. - still have mine, though her hair is all matted
JEM dolls, though I never had any myself
Maxie dolls - actually late 80s/early 90s, but I loved the clothes and the guy doll, who had actual hair.
Were you the kind of kid who was obsessed with matching Barbie outfits, or were you more into cross-dressing Ken? Did you play house, or enact horror movies using fake Halloween blood? (hmm, where did we get that idea... too many R-rated movies, hehe)
I used to love to make Barbie clothes and furniture... one more reason to have daughters
Have fun, girls!
Dancingdoll1986 8-18-01, 02:29 PM I always wanted to have Barbie's clothes...to actually wear! I was so bummed out when they came out with My Size Barbie...b/c I was like, 16 years old!! *sigh* I had the 1970's Dream House, (pink with that "mod" furniture), the airplane, the townhouse, the corvette...you name it, it was at my house!
My best friend and I would always have our Barbies "shtupping" Ken...even though he was so not anatomically correct!!
I still collect Barbies...I have all of the Hallmark ornaments, and recently took them to one of the conventions to have the collection appraised...to my surprise, it's well over $5000 for the stupid ornaments!!!
*sigh* Can't wait to have a daughter so I can play with Barbies again!!

Nikki_91 8-18-01, 02:32 PM I think I only had about maybe 4 Barbies.
One was called Beauty Secrets..she had really long hair.
One was Suntan barbie-She had a suntan.
Malibu Skipper and I forgot the other one..she had short hair.
I had a G.I. Joe, does that count? Of course, when my sisters were gone, Joe and Barbie did a little dating... :D

LMAO! Guess it was the uniform that did it for Barbie! G.I. Joe was way more of a man than Ken anyway. :D
morningmyst 8-19-01, 11:52 AM I used to have a bumper sticker that said.....I wanna be Barbie....the bitch has everything!! LOL
Dancingdoll1986 8-19-01, 03:37 PM I have guest towels in my 2nd bathroom that say that!!! (Very pretty...good linen, silkscreened...and then it says that!!)
~G :D
Wow... I'd almost forgotten about this thread, since I posted it right before the upgrades... and there are **boys** in it! *pelts Barbie shoes at the boys until they run away*
Oh wait, we're grown up now... *collects Barbie shoes and smooches nolanbuc & Shakey in apology!*
There was a big Conair ad in this week's TV guide, and they had a real life Twirly Curls Barbie curling wand!! Electric and everything! (the kind that twists two sections of hair into a candy cane-like thing) Wow, that'd be much easier than using Twirly Curls' hair styling appliance on a real person *g* LOL
Well. The shoes hurt, but the smooches made up for it. :)
I remember my favorite barbie...
Kissing Barbie,, she came with her own lipstick. You apply it on her lips then push a button on her back and she would kiss .. and leave little lip prints.
I just remembered, i also had the Cher doll.. My mom gave it to me with one rule... never.. never.. take her clothes off. Why I don't know !!
I wish i still had that doll ,, it would be worth some money now.

Heehee! :D
Oh, I loved Kissing Barbie, or whatever her name was. Maybe I had Loving You Barbie instead-- she has a white voile dress with red velvet hearts. (I say "has" because I still have mine) :) But I do remember a doll with a button on her back that you pushed... hmm.
I have to forcibly restrain myself from buying Barbies on eBay. *g*
My favortie barbie was Ballerina Barbie! My grandmother used to sew me fashion barbie clothes all the time and my mother always had a ready supply of tin foil for those showy form fitting dresses. LOL she was total exasperated with me -all those clothes and you still use my tinfoil :)
I also had Luke Skywalker and Princess Lea - she was a totally butch barbie and I wish I had taken better care of them. They could have been worth a fortune. I still have them but they have been well used and sit at the cottage for all the kids to use.
Does anyone remember the Sunshine Family? I had them all and now all I have left is the grandpa.
*Shakey peers into the room to look for flying shoes* Uhm. I had a "Bionic Man" ACTION FIGURE (not doll) that had a button on the back that gave him the super grip.
wavemaster 9-03-01, 08:52 AM Hehe...I can remember that I once put the Barbies of my little sis in the hot oven after she trashed some of my beloved Matchbox cars.
Boy, I really got hell for this...first from my mom as the Barbies left an awful smell in the kitchen...then from my sis when she noticed.
But, that little Barbie-Q made me feel quite good...aah, being evil...really evil... :D

LMAO!! Barbie-Q!!
http://www.plauder-smilies.de/happy/roflmao.gif
LOL Wave. Didn't the Oakridge boys sing a song about that
Bah Bah Barbie Q
Think think I'm gonna marry you
Okay it's Bobby Sue but that is the song that popped in my head - and blame my parents for that one LOL
If i would have just taken better care of those toys I would be wealthy now.
What do you guys think will be worth some money 30 years from now? I am referring to the toys the kids have now?

Hee hee. So did my friend and I. I mean get them "shtupping".
Does anyone remember the skipper doll that grew up? You wound her arm around, and she would grow a little taller and get little boobies? I still have mine. I had to bring it in to work one day, b/c no one believed me.
I loved the Barbie Q story. Good one.

This is a good question :) MIssed it before.
Hummm... matchbox cars, some Barbies, NOTHING marked 'collectable' is ever gonna be worth anything. Older toys are worth money NOW because noone saved them THEN! ;)
Outside of what I already said, I think if it's a unique toy than maybe that will be worth saving? I know there are more to add to my list??
Anyone else?? :)
Does anyone remember Western Ken? He had this black rubber band thing inside his waist so that he could move in all directions? I would take him up by the legs and just whip him all over the place. My Dad got mad because "that stuff costs money!!!" and made me go play with my Hot Wheels. I sold all that Barbie stuff (pool, RV, furniture), but I saved my cars and gave them to my son. LOL
morningmyst 9-27-01, 03:03 PM My cousin and I used to get so mad that the Barbies were so....well endowed...looked nothing like we did......so, we'd take them outside and rub their chests on the cement until they had no more boobies! LOL...Sick, huh? She just reminded me of this just the other day. She found one of hers that we did that too! Funny thing is...after we were done, none of her clothes fit properly! LMAO
