View Full Version : Favorite Duran Duran Song
Iluvthe80s 2-04-02, 01:16 PM We have chose our favorite Duran Duran albums, now choose your favorite Duran Duran song. If you pick other, please tell us what your favorite song is. This was very tough for me to pick a favorite song, but it is a close one. I went with "The Seventh Stranger" off of Seven And The Ragged Tiger with "Of Crime And Passion" a very close second.
I voted for "Save A Prayer", this was a tough choice for me, I almost went with "A View To A Kill", but "Save A Prayer" is a great song, but "A View To A Kill" definitely came in a close second!! :thumb:
mabas9395 2-04-02, 02:23 PM From the ones listed I voted for Hungry Like the Wolf. I couldn't decide between that and New Moon on Monday so having HLTW listed was the tie breaker.
I would also have give an honorable mention to Wild Boys. I love singing along to that song.
Roemello 2-04-02, 02:55 PM Hungry Like the Wolf has always been my favorite....it just fits me too well :D Honorable mention I guess would have to go to 'Of Crime and Passion' and 'Come Undone'
80sTrivia 2-04-02, 03:07 PM I gave my nod to "The Reflex", but my personal favorite song from D2 is "Is There Something I Should Know?"
Who's That Girl? The Ultimate Madonna Trivia Book (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0595210147/qid=1011275246/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_10_3/103-1497262-3724640)
I was a huge fan of the song "Union of the Snake" I would listen to that over and over again when it first came out, so it got my vote!
fiya kraka 2-04-02, 06:38 PM Rio. Another fave of mine is Hold Back The Rain.
18th Century Brain 2-04-02, 09:44 PM The Reflex was my favorite Duran Duran song from the 80s. I think their best one from the 90's was Electric Barbarella.
Out of the ones listed I went with "Save a Prayer", but I would have chosen "Wild Boys" if that were listed.
It's really hard to choose a favorite Duran Duran song because they were all so good!:)
angeleyes25 2-05-02, 12:33 AM Hungry Like The Wolf .
"Is there something I should know" would have been my first choice.....
Therrall 2-05-02, 04:21 AM There was no doubt for me, I chose "A View To A Kill", as my favorite Duran Duran song.

One of their best songs, but one of the worst Bond movies. ;)
So I'm the only one who likes "Planet Earth"?. Well, my second options were "Hungry like the wolf" and "Union of snakes"... "save a prayer2 it's a good song, but... well, I prefer something not so slow...
space-invader 2-06-02, 06:04 PM i like wild boys the best...love the vocals in that song
My favorite is "Rio" with "A View To A Kill" and "Wild Boys" close behind.
geminiduran 2-07-02, 10:02 PM i voted for view to a kill but they have so many good tunes its hard to choose. others i love alot are new moon on monday, shadows on your side, to the shore, hold back the rain, and the live version of union of the snake and careless memories i really dig hearing andys live guitar playing bounce off nick abstract keyboards and john funky bass playing.
LadyMysTrix 2-10-02, 03:04 AM I voted Other for 'Wild Boys'.
Sara Smile 2-13-02, 03:16 PM Notorious for me. It was between Notorious and Skin Trade for me. I just love that CD.
djdaffy1227 2-17-02, 07:30 PM I had to go with "Rio", for some reason I absolutely love it! I also really like their version of "White lines"
Nikki_91 2-18-02, 03:40 PM This is what I'm talkin' about..Duran Duran. A band so true to my heart! One of the best memories for me is when I actually signed a petition to get Duran Duran to come to Austin in 1992/93 to play a concert. It was a dream come true to actually be at a Duran Duran concert and hear them play the only song that I have actually LOVED since I was 9 years old. Of course, that song would be "Save a Prayer". Simon LeBon singing that song just gives me chills thinking about it. I truly love that song!!!!!!!!!!!
COOL BREEZE 2-18-02, 08:52 PM BEING A BASS PLAYER I LOVE THE BASS LINE IN "HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF" LOVE VOCALS OF "SAVE A PRAYER" AND "VEIW TO A KILL IS GREAT! BUT, HAD TO GO WITH "RIO" SONG JUST MAKES ME FEEL GOOD AND TAKES ME BACK! REMEMBER THE VIDEO!
OTHER GOOD ONES NOT LISTED"COME UNDONE" & "ORDINARY WORLD"
COOL BREEZE
"GEE DAD YOU MUST HAVE JUMPED THE CAR 50 YARDS"
"PIPE DOWN RUSS THAT'S NOTHING TO BE PROUD OF......FIFTY YARDS"
Christine 2-19-02, 08:49 AM Definitely "A View To A Kill". I love that song. :) :D
My personal favorite is "New Moon On Monday" but I lost my virginity to "Girls on film" so I had to pick it.
3-way tie - Union of the Snake, The Reflex, and Save a Prayer. Wild Boys is also one of my faves.
Dancingdoll1986 3-03-02, 10:31 PM Guancho...I went with Planet Earth as well!!
I got that album before it was altered!!! I loved that song....especially the keyboard sounds!!
I went with other on this one. My fave D2 song is Lonely In Your Nightmare. Have always loved it. Great song to sing. :)
idexpectnoless 3-04-02, 12:53 AM My Fav is Hungry Like The Wolf. The first time I heard it I(all those years ago) I remember thinking this song was different than any I had ever before. Also a good video. my second and third favs would be from the same album. Hold Back the Rain & Lonely in Your Nightmare. Heck I ought to rethink my top 10 albums this one should probably be there.

DD, I'm in debt with you... I started to think my music taste was just too eccentric! :)
Greenway88 4-12-02, 10:54 AM New Moon On Monday
2nd choice Save A Prayer
3rd choice Is There Something I Should Know
Steve Savicki 4-14-02, 02:25 PM "The Reflex" because you can dance to it.
unmentioned choice would be Wild Boys (http://www.cdnow.com/from=sr-181894/cgi-bin/mserver/SID=1777661132/pagename=/RP/CDN/FIND/album.html/artistid=DURAN+DURAN/itemid=10051).
I used to play those 2 side by side forever!
My Obsession 4-14-02, 03:00 PM Some of Duran Duran's best songs are not on that list, so I'll have to go with "other". :(
Anyways, I think their best stuff was from their first album self titled "Duran Duran", specifically the song "Friends of Mine" and "Sound of Thunder". Those are two songs I never get sick of.
I can't believe those two songs didn't get much radio exposure because they are really good.
I agree, I love "Sound of Thunder" and lots of their stuff that didn't make the top 40.
My favorite one (if I Have to choose:) is
'so soon, just after you've gone
my senses sharpen.
but it always takes
so damn long
before I feel how much my eyes have darkened..."
(can't believe I still remember the words. lol)
"Careless Memory"
ImSoooSure 4-16-02, 12:58 AM I went with other. Right now I'd have to say Wild Boys is my fav. That can change at any given second though. I also love listening to Come Up And See Me Make Me Smile!:D
80's Koukla 4-17-02, 08:30 AM I had to go with The Reflex. I saw Duran Duran in concert here about two summers ago and felt completely ripped off when they left the stage amid chants of "Re-flex, Re-flex" and never came back to give us a second encore. They did "Wild Boys" instead and I was never a big fan of that song. It was a pretty weird crowd - I didn't expect so many young kids to be there and DD opened it with a song off their new album and immediatey all of us 80's throwbacks started yelling "play your old sh*t!!" It got so ugly that they pretty much stopped in the middle of a new song and went right into "Rio." :)
My second fav would be "Anyone Out There" from their first album.
BlitzKid 4-19-02, 07:52 AM I voted for Notorious as it was the first Duran Duran song i experienced in the charts. Memories of a great year, life was so much fun with 11! :)
I went with "The Reflex". I remember dancing to this song a couple of times in high school.
The fave song has got to be 'Is there Anyone Out There'
Saw them do it at Nottingham in 2001 - awesome
Riff
sketcher 5-01-02, 01:25 PM Planet Earth -- the music is good
Girls On Film -- gotta love the line 'lip stick cheery all over...'

AAHHHH!!!
I'm a Duranie! A Duranie can't pick just one! It's impossible. :(
BTW, my fav was JT
Other! Skin Trade from the Notorious album.

I voted for "Other."
It is a tie between "Pop Trash Movie" and "Somebody Else Not Me" with "Come Undone" coming in at a close 2nd (if only it was not played ad nauseam...).
DJ Midas 8-14-03, 06:29 PM "Hungry Like The Wolf" here.
Jefferson Starship 8-29-03, 03:18 PM A view to a kill, the one & only I can stand from Duran Duran! :D
Other: Ordinary World
This song is a 'classic'!
JAlanLong 10-07-03, 05:26 PM Well The Reflex is the song that got me hooked on them forever so Ill go with that. Is There Something I Should Know might be second along with Friends of Mine and New Moon on Monday.
Gosh I could go on and on....Skin Trade....Late Bar....stop me I could go on forever.
Jeff
JAlanLong@kahunamail.net
ShattyMcPants 10-08-03, 08:50 AM As far as 'Other'--- I'd say American
Science and Skin Trade from the Notorious Album
app4dstn 10-08-03, 10:21 AM other (come undone)
from the 80's: new moon on monday, hungry like the wolf, <most of the self-titled album>
Planet Earth for me every time - a perfect start to their debut album, also released in 1981, and which is still one of my all-time favourite albums!!!
Jefferson Starship 10-29-03, 10:41 AM Rio is very good especially with the video! Wild Boys I like more the video than the song, A view to a kill, notorious, The Reflex & hungry like the wolf are song that I listen at least twice a week! Very good tunes!

That is an excellent album! It's their best, imho. Probably one of the best of the 80s, period :)
Cheetara 11-12-03, 02:50 PM Ordinary World. I really like it because I can understand what they are singing about and its a very sweet song. So many times Duran Duran lyrics were very unrecognizable as is most bands music, so I guess it goes with the territory. :rockband:
Jefferson Starship 11-13-03, 09:48 AM now ''Don't save a prayer'' is my new favorite song!! I like too much that song!!
Leanne01 1-25-04, 08:49 PM I voted for Hungry like the wolf, I heard that song when I was about 12 years old and have loved it ever since. I'm a huge duran fan always have been and always will be. :)
angeleyes25 1-25-04, 09:22 PM Hungry Like The Wolf
mrs. taylor 4-29-04, 04:56 PM Sooo difficult to pick just one, but I'm going with "other" -- "Lonely In Your Nightmare." But close behind would be "Save A Prayer," "The Reflex," and "The Seventh Stranger." And... and... and... :)
BCRichRocker4JC 4-29-04, 09:18 PM Notorious. John Taylor's got the groove going on in that one.
Sooo difficult to pick just one, but I'm going with "other" -- "Lonely In Your Nightmare." But close behind would be "Save A Prayer," "The Reflex," and "The Seventh Stranger." And... and... and... :)
Oooh! That's a great choice!
Later Duran Duran is good as is the earliest stuff. "Khanada" or "Late Bar" anyone  :)
whistledog 10-19-04, 05:20 PM I always liked their 1982 hit 'My Own Way'
A shame it failed to become a hit in North America :(
SouthernImage 10-19-04, 05:59 PM The Reflex ;)
ObiDave 10-19-04, 08:10 PM Forced to choose, I pick "Planet Earth".
Crump99 10-21-04, 05:13 PM Really too difficult but plumped for Rio because I never tire of watching the video. It's hard to believe that people get paid for making videos in such locations? How lucky was that? It makes me :barf:
Must just also give a mention for their live version of Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me) original by Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel
tiggertaylor2 11-08-04, 10:08 PM Careless Memories. :thumb:
Tanya1976 11-15-04, 07:10 PM The Reflex, followed by Union of the Snake, is my fave.
DuranieGirl 3-30-05, 12:05 PM I voted for "Save A Prayer", this was a tough choice for me, I almost went with "A View To A Kill", but "Save A Prayer" is a great song, but "A View To A Kill" definitely came in a close second!! :thumb:
I picked "Save a Prayer" as well but it was hard for me to choose one, I almost voted for "A View to A Kill" too. They're both great songs! :thumb:
Flying Tiger 3-30-05, 03:27 PM One of their best songs, but one of the worst Bond movies. ;)
True dat. Shame too, cuz I love Christopher Walken.
I kinda like Rio best.
Poindexter 5-03-05, 11:27 PM Save A Prayer  I really liked the video too. :thumb:
ElectricYouth 5-12-05, 04:58 AM Oh god, this was such a hard decision.... I chose "The Reflex" because it was there, but I have like 9 favorite Duran Duran songs, including "Is There Something I Should Know?" and "American Science" just to name a few.
oooh duran...
other...my fave song is ,secret oktober b side to union of the snake
followed by the chaffeur b side to rio, (acoustic version)
both are class tracks...
duran were my fave band at school and the gorgeous mr JT i adored...
80's fanatic 5-24-05, 10:48 PM Definately 'Hungry Like The Wolf' for me, I absolutely love that song :)
Monty007® 5-26-05, 04:31 AM Sound Of Thunder
frothy latte 10-11-05, 04:03 PM Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand....
SeaBass 11-02-05, 01:27 PM i voted for Rio, but really that whole album is far superior to what you might hear on the radio these days. I also am quite fond of I Don't Want Your Love.
othacon 11-02-05, 08:20 PM What a hard work to do, I choose one, but If i could, I'll choose many
one of them could be "union of snake", "rio" ohh my god!!! great song!!!!
I stay with "save a prayer" It's just a sweet song.
goalscrounger 11-08-05, 04:59 PM I voted for Girls On Film and it's definitely my favourite SINGLE, although Friends Of Mine or Sound Of Thunder will run it close for favourite song.
SpaceHog 11-10-05, 02:11 PM I voted for other, why? because I like ordinary world
b_angie_b 11-12-05, 11:08 AM I love most everything up to Seven and the Ragged Tiger. Union of the snake, save a prayer(bawled like a baby at the concert when this one was played) and New Moon on Monday(bawled when they played that one also).
an80snut 11-29-05, 12:04 PM Had to put other down because "The Chauffeur" is simply amazing and unlisted. I think it's the hypnotic effect of the pan flute hook.
80s Queen 2-22-06, 09:37 AM God! That was a tough one. I went with The Union of the snake, but it was really a toss up between that one, Save a prayer, and The Reflex. Good pole.!
