Hi Milani, I've been on a diet over the last couple of months. But I don't do it the right way and if I listed my dieting technique, healthy people will crucify me. Basically all i'm doing is eating one meal a day either lunch or dinner and not touching fast foods. Cause it's too cold out my excercising is nil

:)

I have tried that and i still don't loose.
How much have you lost?
I am going to jog at least 2 miles a day.. and I am going to eat right.
Today I am going to rejoin the gym.

Have you ever heard about that abenergizer? I wonder if it works.

I've lost about 25 pounds since Halloween, I know it's not the correct way to lose as experts will tell me I'm losing as much muscle mass as fat, but it's always been the way I've found to lose weight easiet, after a couple days I basically get in the habit of eating one big (non hi fat meal a day) and my mind and body gets used to it. Is the abenergizer one of those little machines that shoot electric shock into the muscle . If it is my friend has been using one, he says what he does is supposed to be equal to 3000 sit ups (crunches) a day and it's not working

I am trying to be good! I decided to start with the exercise, and then gradually start eating better. One thing at a time. It's hard though, because my husband is a great cook, and very into butter.

For the past 2 weeks or so, I've been doing aerobics & yoga at home. Yoga almost every day, and aerobics two or three times a week. I'm so out of shape. I've been doing both on and off for a year now, but I really want to shed at least one dress size this winter... I can't fit into half of the great spring clothes I bought last year!

I have this great new yoga dvd called "Upper Body-Lower Body-Abs Yoga for Beginners" and the Abs workout is incredible. I can't finish it yet, but when I can, I am going to have a very nice tummy indeed. My abs aren't sore exactly, but I can still feel them, and I last did that workout four days ago. :D

I'd love to be workout buddies with somebody!

Hey Cal, I'm right there with ya bud. I started October 28th and I've lost 25 lbs since then. I'm taking it slow. I have been cutting out breakfast and sometimes lunch, but drinking Slimfast for the vitamins, so my body doesn't steal from muscle. I've gone down a waist size and feel more energetic than ever. I tend to put on weight during the summer. South Texas gets blazing hot and I don't like to be outdoors, so I sit around in the house eating. But I shed it during the Winter and Spring. I'm gonna try to keep my exercising regimine throughout the year. Good luck to you Cal and Milani, I know how hard it can be. :)

My g/f used these pills last year and she lost 30 pounds in 1 month with them. It makes you crap out the fat. icky, but it works. If you want the name I can get it tonight. :) One thing though, they're $100 for a small bottle of them. They're made of some rare plant in Brazil. 100% safe though. :D

 I think we all ask that question after the first few days!
But it happens when you least expect it. Your clothes are a good indicator. I suggest you not weigh yourself everyday either. The body fluctuates and you may be a pound or two above what you were the day prior, this is natural. It, however, can be very frustrating at the same time. I weigh in once every two weeks to check my progress. For me, it helps me stay positive and quenches my drive! :thumb:
You'll get there! :)

Ted thanks but if i wanted to shit like that I would just take exlax,, much cheaper.

I haven't weigh myself for 3 months now.. to tell you the truth I am scared to.
If i weigh myself and I found out my real weight.. i will just go into a depression and eat two large pizzas..

I am not going to weigh myself for the first 3 weeks.

Who isn't dieting? I think every girl you ask is. But I think I got a good plan. You go to the store, put a nice out-fit(2sizes to small) on layaway b/c it won't fit you now. Since you have to pay for it in about 2-3 mos you exercise your ass off and when you get the outfit you look good in it.:D (I am doing that right now, I'll tell you if it works.)

I keep telling myself I won't buy bigger clothes, because if I do I won't realize I'm gaining until they're too tight. That's a load of crap, let me tell you, because I shop more for clothes now than I ever have!!! I have a variety of medical reasons, though. But I am cutting back on what I eat and how much junk food I take in. Hopefully this helps.

txgirl, that sounds like a great idea! If I didn't know about return policies, I'd try that. ;)

There is always a way around return policies. Believe me! Not only with clothes, but with just about everything.[B]

2-08-02, 07:58 AM
You two are right.
Val, I have not bought any new clothes. I can't get my self to buy anything in the double digits. Thank God I am not there yet, but if i keep going the way I am .. I will be a double digit.

I am just going to excercise my ass off... literally;) And watch what I eat.

No bigger clothes for me. It is almost spring.. so that means I have to get down two more sizes so I can get in that summer dress.

Yeah... *sigh* That's a good motivator... the beautiful light blue silk suit I got on clearance last summer! I can't even zip the pants halfway now.

Val, I hear you. I gained a lot last summer from one of my prescriptions, (honest!) and it's just beginning to come off now. It's frustrating to have that to deal with on top of everything else, but now that I'm off that pill, the weight hasn't returned. #&%@ side effects.

My husband's got the flu so it's been hard to stay active this week. I haven't been getting much sleep, either. With any luck, he'll be up and about tonight, and not parked on the futon, so I can't do my kickboxing video in the living room. Kickboxing videos are great for working out those, um, aggressions left over from the week! Hehe.

Milani - I wish you the best of luck.
You go girl!

I always been on the skinny side, but noticed (2 years ago) that I could no longer drop 5 lbs in a a few days like I could when I was 21. I also noticed that even though I'm thin, my body just looks different (getting old sucks - especially when you like all the cute new clothes out there!). I joined Bally's and have been going every single week since the day I started. I *never* miss a week, but sometimes I'll slack off and only go once a week. I've been really good for months lately, and have been going 3 times a week.

If you want to really lose weight quick, try to do 60-90 minutes of cardio 4 times a week. If you do that and cut out sweets and bad snacks, you should be able to drop pounds in no time.

Good luck, I'm sure you can do it.

Mary - yoga is awesome!! I practice yoga as well and truly love it. I'm hoping to start working with my yoga instructor again this year. After you've mastered the beginners tape, try doing power yoga! That is so fun and it's a killer work-out.

wish we all lived close by.....we do fun work-outs to our favorite 80s songs!!

How's everyone doing on their diets/work-outs??

I started eating powerbars/meal replacement bars for lunch M-F for 2 weeks. I'm not really trying to lose weight, but a few lbs never hurt and I want to make sure I don't gain an ounce as I'm going to the Bahamas in May.

I've also stepped up my work-outs and have been doing lots of running and cardio (swimming & stationary bike). It feels great. :)

Since spring is approaching, I'll finally get off my butt and go mountain biking in the woods. 20 miles per day shouldn't be too much of a problem.
I'm not doing it for weight lost, though, since I have a very speedy high metabolism. :p I mostly do it for the fun of it...

But like you said I started in high gear this week. Hopefully by time it really stays warm around here I will be ready for those shorts and tanktops. And living in Texas those days are right around the corner.

I started working out in late December, which lasted into the first week of January. Then I started again for a few days in Feb. But now I've actually sort of been working out for the last two weeks.

I always do this - work out in the winter and then quit completely in the Summer. Every year I promise that this time I'll stick with it.

Dieting isn't my strong point. For lunch today I had cheez-whiz on wheat thins, then some potato chips. Oh well, I think I'll go exercise now, if I have any energy

...feeling lightheaded...must lie down... :D

Well, I lost over 65 pounds in the past year, and took off 8 inches from my waist. The best way to lose weight is just what the subject of the thread says. DIET and EXCERSISE

I belonged to a Gym and would walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes. Eventually, I would rasise the incline and that would help burn more calories. I also started doing some weight training, because that helps burn the fat, tone the muscle and build muscle. Doing cardio(walking, running, swimming, etc..)at least 4-6 times a week and then some weight training 3-4 times a week is plenty of excerise to get you in shape. Also, eat a lot of protein, cut out the sugars and high carbs foods, and DRINK LOTS OF WATER

I got a lot of advice from various websites for fitness and weight loss with people in my prediciment. In fact, I post over at Mens Health.com

However, you might like to try a couple websites to help motivate you, and meet other people trying to lose weight. That's what I did. It all starts in the mind first.

Some good ones are:

ThriveOnline (http://www.thriveonline.com)
FreeTrainers (http://www.freetrainers.com)
FitDay (http://www.fitday.com)
MSN Health (http://health.msn.com)

One thing that I have read on here that you don't want to do is Eat one huge meal a day. That is a no no! You need to eat 5-6 times a day, each of them small meals, because it keeps the metabolism burning

Wow that is amazing.. congratualtions.
Thank you for your advice. I will check those out.

The word "diet" scares the hell out of me when I hear people say it. Diets do not work, plain and simple. All dieting does is lower your metabolism. Your body does not get enough fuel, so it slows down. Yes, you do lose the weight, but as soon as you go back to your old eating habits, your body's new metabolism cannot keep up, and you put the weight lost back on....and then some!

Brand1974 was right on the money. Exercise, exercise, exercise....and plenty of water. I have limited my calorie intake to 1,500 a day. Just enough to maintain myself. I do cardio three to four times a week, along with weight training.

The cardio is either 15 minutes of treadmill followed by 15 minutes of elliptical machine, or just 30 minutes on the elliptical. When I'm really feeling fiesty (or if the show I'm watching on the gym's TV is really good!) I do an hour.

Then it's a 30-45 minute trip through the weight circuit. Most people don't realize how much weight training helps you to lose weight. When you have more muscle, you burn fat more efficiently. This is a proven fact.

Hey, if it can keep a 40 year old guy from looking his age, it can work for anyone!!!

PS - Milani, you look terrific....your boyfriend is an asshole....

couldn't agree with you more!

lean mass is much more dense than fat mass too

a guy with 30% body fat would look very different to another guy who is the same height and weight but only 10% body fat

I record Bodies in Motion with Gilad every day and work out with that. It's on the Health Network, early in the morning. They show about six episodes from 5 am to 10 or so. There's another show called Aerobic Conditioning that's on too. There's lots of episodes of those shows and it's more fun than working out with the same tape every day.

Gilad starts out with aerobics and sometimes kickboxing, then they do a little weight training, then some ab work. I just do the aerobic part to get warmed up for lifting weights.

Then I have a pizza and some beer :D

I've just started trying to watch what I eat and getting more exercise. Already lost 5 pounds. :) Was very proud of that. It's a start. I try to walk to walk on nice days. Takes me about 15 to 20 minutes cause of the damn freeway between me and work. lol Only 2 ways to get over it. My problem is the coffee shop half way between home and work. ;) Hard not to stop there for some caffiene before work. I'm going to start using an exercise tape a couple of times a week also.
