Fiction is ahead!!!

Then dead line to vote should be Feb. 1!!!

So everyone get your votes in before that .. DD will then find a good Fiction book for us to read and discuss!!

I saw that DD was leaving on the other forum. I did not really know her, but am sad to see her signing off for a while. Why don't we see the out come at the end of the month(poll) and go from there.

Don't fret, Sis...I'll be here for the book club!

My mom and I talked, and her book club is reading a book that she says is a good one for men and women. It's called "Was it something I said" by Valerie Block.

Another one is "Turn of the century" by Kurt Anderson.

I'm here for the club, never fear!!

I voted for fiction, but I'll read any other genre on the list, except for Romance, which doesn't interest me at all. :)

You know what? I've never really read a fantasy novel before. Jazz...could you give me a list of authors so I can check those out? Would anyone have a prob. with trying one of those? They sound interesting.

Of course I'd never let you down! This is a great idea...I love the idea of a book club.:D

I use to read them all the time. Don't recall any of the authors names though.
But we could try one of those.

I'd reccomend the Kama Sutra, but for Pete's sake, it's only pictures, and really, it would be more fun if it were a face-to-face book club!!

Silly boy and girl!!!:goofy:

I'm not silly.. far from silly :p

That would be a good book.. but something along PentHouse might be cool.. but then again.. I like "The Doctor" .. Go Dogs Go!!!

I like to read romantic/realistic fiction generally (not romance novels, if that's what you mean by romance).

Okay...I have it narrowed down a bit, but first I need to know one thing....

Does everyone have a Half Price Books near them? I have one near me, and the books are way cheaper there. I am going to consult Bertie, (my mom), on which one to choose. Also, how many men are HONESTLY going to participate?? I don't want to pick a book thinking that a lot of you say you will, and then don't want to!!!

The deadline will now be till next Saturday. That will give me a bit of time to check with Bertie, and to get some idea how many men will be participating.

I'm here, I'm insane, I'm the Book Club Lady!!!

Just a suggestion.....I noticed that the new John Grisham book is out. It's titled The Summons .

sassy
2-04-02, 07:54 AM
I have never read any of his books, I have heard they are good.

Dancingdoll1986
2-04-02, 10:34 AM
jen*.......is that out in paperback yet? I think that one would be an excellent choice, as a matter of fact.

Anyone else want to try that one? I would love to read that!!

Taz
2-04-02, 10:41 AM
I usually read fiction ;)

jen*
2-04-02, 10:56 AM
I think it's only out in hardback. I can check and get back to ya'll this evening.

I like fiction best.
I'm willing to join the book club too. Sounds fun, but I read books painfully slow lately, but I'll try it.:)

Dancingdoll1986
2-07-02, 11:58 AM
Okay....this is it!!

On February 17, 2002...everyone should have their copy of The Summons by John Grisham. We'll give 3 weeks to read it, since a lot of people read either slower, or have more of a life than most!! (*giggle*) I myself, unfortunatly, am a speed reader, and will probably finish the book in about 4 hours. But, I will then go through the book, and figure out some questions to ask, and go from there. Remember to write any questions down so when I start the forum on the book, you'll have them ready.

Okay? Okay! We are on our way!!!

2-07-02, 07:33 PM
Great choice. Definitely get to the store as soon as possible. John Grisham was on The Today Show this week so The Summons will probably sell quick.

jen*
2-08-02, 07:56 AM
I finally got by the bookstore last night. The Summons is just out in hardback. At Books-A-Million it was $27.95.

I'm sure it can be found cheaper, but probably not much. Ya'll let me know.:)

sassy
2-08-02, 08:46 AM
I guess we made our choice.
Runs to the book store with a check..
couldn't you have picked a cheaper book? Something in paperback?

LOL
This should be fun.

txgirl
2-11-02, 08:40 AM
I didn't see it in paperback, since it was just released. But I found it for a/b $19.99 at Wal-Mart.

jen*
2-13-02, 10:34 AM
I picked my copy up yesterday for $15.00 at Sam's Club.

I'm ready to start reading. How about ya'll?

That is too funny. I got that book yesterday, because I was bored and wanted a good new book. Can I join your bookclub?

jen*
2-13-02, 03:48 PM
Sara, you are more than welcome to join the club. We are hoping to have lots of club members to discuss our books.:)

Okay, has anyone started reading yet? I hate to be the only one to jump the gun, but I held off for a week! Highly unusual for me. I started reading last night, and am on chapter 10.

sassy

I am sorry, I know I started this book club. But for the past two weeks I have been dealing with alot of things:cry:
I will catch the next book I promise.

I started just this past Sunday. So, I am sure to be done by the weekend, though I still have to come up with some discussion topics on it.

How is everyone else coming along? Do we need to extend the time a bit for some who are going through personal stuff? Let me know here or in a PM!!

I accidentally left my copy at work last night, so I'm only on chapter 16. Ya'll let me know if I'm ahead or behind. I tend to read very fast and if a book is really good, I'll read into the wee hours of the morning. Pisses my hubby off sometimes.
