I'm sure we all remember Dream Academy and their haunting Top Ten hit from 1985, "Life In a Northern Town". This British trio had a great, unique sound and wrote songs with meaningful lyrics. "Life In a Northern Town" was their sole US hit, but I believe they scored some other hits in Europe. Who else enjoyed their sound? :)

It's one of the songs from the 80's that I burned when I made the young girls at work, a couple CD's of non metal music from the 80's. these are girls 20 years old who had never heard A-HA or 99 Red Balloons, but they claim to like 3/4 or the songs. The radio station here used to overplay this song in the winter

I loved that song....

When I was a freshman at Kent State, I used that song in my final for ballet. It was different than everyone else's final, but the teacher really liked it. Very different and innovative, she said.

OOoooh! I really liked "Life in a Northern Town". Now I think I'll go look for it on Kaaza. I haven't heard it in ages. Thanks for reminding me of it, Michael.;)

The Dream Academy had a unique sound to them and "Life In A Northern Town" is a great melodic song. I have to admit it, when the 'Crash Test Dummies' came out in the 90's, I thought Dream Academy had released a new album! For some reason, I thought it was them....MMMM MMMM MMMM MMMM MMMM

I also love the song, "The Edge of Forever" by them as well as their lovely instrumental cover of The Smiths' "Please Please Please, Let Me Get What I Want This Time." It's in Ferris Bueller's Day off during the Museum scene when they are holding hands & looking at the Seurat painting.

Wow, I never knew that was a Dream Academy song playing in that scene from Ferris Bueller. That's interesting to know. Thanks for the info, Xis. :)

Those are great songs but can't believe no one mentioned my favorite! "Power To Believe"! This was an awesome song! I can't believe it didn' t chart here! You've probably heard it! It was featured in the movie "Planes,Trains and Automobiles" at the part where Steve Martin is on the subway train home and he's starts to remember all the things that he and John Candy did and said!

I guess John Hughes must have been a big fan of Dream Academy to put their tunes on the soundtrack to two of his flicks!!! :)

I love Life In a Northern Town, it's a great song that I'd heard many times before I actually knew what it was. However, you'll find that Please Let Me Get What I Want by The Smiths, was the song used in the Museum scene of Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
