View Full Version : 80's Toys!
Nikki_91 4-29-00, 01:43 AM One thing I remember of the 80's are the Toys! We had Strawberry Shortcake and her family..My Little Pony..My Mermaid with the lilypad that changed colors when it was wet.
Of Course,an assortment of Barbie's..Cabbage Patch Dolls..Matchbox cars, Tonka Trucks, Transformers, etc.
------------------
RetroMan 4-29-00, 02:04 AM Oh yes!!! I still have most of my toys - my parents slowly took them away from me when I reached the 'destructive' stage, and hid them all upstairs in the attic - when I passed the destuctive stage, I was given them all back in perfect condition - exept for my Rubik Cube tm. I pulled it appart in frustration! My favorite toy was my Masters Of The Universe Castle Greyskull (the one that splits open with the state-of-the-art microphone that makes your voice sound really dark. That was like 'the' thing to have back then http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif
------------------
Sal Collaziano 4-29-00, 02:18 AM Hey. Now with the internet, that microphone thing would be really cool in voice chat rooms. hehe Think of the possibilities! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

I still have a few of my 80s toys. I have about 11 My little Ponies, I did have Strawbewrry shortcake with her cat, Funshine (carebear), Shy Violet (rainbow brite doll), Shana (Jem doll), a pound puppy, a collection of barbies, a Garfield, my brother did have Voltron till recently. I loved those 80s toys, so cool. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Nikki_91 4-30-00, 02:46 AM I still have my rubiks cube..it's not solved, but it's still in one piece. I have some barbies and some other things in the attic.
------------------
Gunner Girl 5-01-00, 10:34 AM Strawberry Shortcake! Does anyone remember the cartoon? Sour Grapes anyone?
My fave was always Blueberry Muffin & her pet (can't remember if it was a cat or dog)Cheesecake (I think). Blue is my fave color so that's probably why.
------------------
Roemello 5-01-00, 01:12 PM My sister used to watch that...I actually still have an Atari game of that show (was hers...mine now http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/biggrin.gif).

My sister had every Strawberry shortcake made and they stunk. There's 6 years between us and she used to beg me to play Barbies with her (my friends would never have let me live that down) so I turned Purple Pie man into a dirty old man lol.
Sheibub my sister loves your Strawberry Shortcake stationary http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

Poison PJ 5-24-00, 12:45 PM I still have all my toys. I have like 265 Transformers. And I stiil buy the new Beast Wars/Beast Machines toys. I look at it this way : Life is short Never grow up, but be responsable at the same yime.
------------------
Sal Collaziano 5-25-00, 02:23 AM Well that's a good way of looking at life.. 265 transformers! Wow! My little brother would have been in Heaven with those. You must have had a fun childhood! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

The majority of my toys are gone. I have a sister 5 years my junior and a brother 11 years my junior. Both got the hand-me-down toys. So what do I do now? I collect Speed Racer stuff! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
------------------
Sal Collaziano 5-30-00, 12:26 AM Speed Racers? What are those? Some kinda cars, I would guess. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

http://www.speedracer.com It's an old '60s cartoon that was really popular again in the early '80s. It's a Japanese anime-type cartoon. Ever hear of the Mach V?
------------------
Sal Collaziano 5-30-00, 11:31 PM Hmm. I don't know if I remember that one! I didn't watch all too many cartoons though, in the 80s. Just Inspector Gadget, really. :|
------------------
80sXChange Homepage (http://www.80sxchange.com)
lol Inspector Gadget. My first cartoon experience aside from the great Bugs Bunny was a stupid puppet show called David and Goliath (the dog) booorriiing lol.
Speedracer was back for a while about 2 years ago because my son was right into it. Anime rocks especially Battle of the Planets http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif
------------------
Sal Collaziano 6-01-00, 01:47 AM Daavveeeeeyy! I loved that dumb show!! haha http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/tongue.gif Up! Clay figures!

dirtydeeds 6-02-00, 04:00 PM I remember having some of the "Battlestar Galactica" and "Buck Rogers" toys in the early 80's. I always was a bit of a sci-fi fan.
I do remember the "Speed Racer" reruns, mrmiata, and especially the Mach V! Those used to be some of the coolest cartoons on TV! Do you remember "Jonny Quest"? That was another of my faves that was rerun in the early 80's. I hope I'm not showing my age too much by revealing this information!
------------------
Sal Collaziano 6-06-00, 12:29 AM I had some Battlestar Galactica toys too. Those Cylon ships were the coolest! And the Cylons. I need that voice! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

You have to admit we had some awesome games!
Twister
Hangman
Operation
Monopoly
Pay Day
Chutes And Ladders
Hungry Hungry Hippos
Simon
Atari 2600
Intelivision
Colecovision
Vectrex
Lite Glow
Etch A Sketch

Hot Wheels
Matchbox Cars
Lionel Trains
Rubix Cube
Big Wheel
Green Machine
Atari 5200

I seen the Ms. Pacman version going for $70
on E Bay. (And people was still bidding) It
only cost $49.99! What Toys do you miss. I know the women will probably say Cabbage Patch Kids, or Baby Alive.
Hey FLASHBACK!!!
Remember Strech Arm Strong!!!
------------------
Elloit
ReagansRenegade 11-03-00, 11:56 AM Twister was a game i never got to play. I thought of it as a teenagers game, where you got to touch teenage girls http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif Still havent played that one.
I had at least two teachers that played Hangman with the class on the blackboard. Very STRANGE.
Is it just me or is Operation kind of sick? It fascinates me still.
Monopoly was a game i once beat my cousin in- i had to grab 500rds from the bank while he was in the can but it was still a close call. He couldnt believe it http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif
Believe it or not i've played PayDay, but didnt have the game until 92. But then i got rid of my friends and decided to try the "loner" life. Its not bad. You just needs lots of money and ideas! So i never got to play it with anyone but my mom i think heh.
Might have played chutes and ladders when i was in kindergarten.
The only time i tried HungyHungryHippos was at my cousins house and there was no one around to try it with and it was broken.
I couldnt play Simon- too damn hard.
Everyone had an Atari, even a deprived child like myself. I used to go over my friend Jeff's house and i prefered watching them play it then try to get the Decatholon guy to run.
Intellivision, Colecovision, Vectrex? The first time i heard of these was in Electronic Games, in the 90s!
LiteGlow is another one i never got until i was too old to enjoy it. I remember the commericial were the little girl made a clown's head out of the colored diodes- i couldnt even make a smiley face. Bah.
Etch-A-Sketch was another one wasted on me.
I once compiled over 300 lego pieces from years of McDonalds HappyMeals. We put it in a blue plastic lego case (anyone have one of those?) and when my mom wanted to have a garage sale i wrote "$50" on the case with black permenant marker. I thought i was really offering a good deal! And have you LOOKED at the prices for legos in this day and age!? I think Mommy was wrong- i was underselling!
AFX racing- never heard of it.
Hotwheels were never my thing either, and i MAY have had one or two matchbox things.
I had a minature train set with a smoke stack that produce weird smelling smoke! Not Lionel though.
Never saw anyone having a good time with the Rubixs Cube.
Everyone i knew had a bigwheel! Man when you start peddling down the street it sounds like your coming through on a steam roller. The funniest thing was when the wheels started to disentigrate! Like bigrig wheels almost http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif I had a KnightRider- cool looking as hell.
Green Machine?
I once won a $200 gift certificate from Toys R Us. I piled in the shopping cart all Transformers- the best generation of them too. My mom and aunt told me i wouldnt be happy with just Transformers so i put them ALL back. Evil women- they just never listen to me! ARRRRGGGGG
GIANT TableTop pacman is the coolest thing ever- usually found in pizza parlors. Its probably i have pleasent memories of it cause it was in a Pizza Parlor though heh.
How about these toys (i guess they're toys):
Shrink-E-Dinks
All-in-1 Pens (green,blue,yellow,ect
Theme Pens (i.e. plastic bat body with red ink and floppy wings!)
Kid's Size CheckOut Counter (with food boxes)
Indoors Putt-Putt Golf Set
Frizzbee
Mr.Potato Head (and Mrs.Potato Head)
Glow-Worms (i didnt own it i swear)
Spark Pistol (dont see THEM anymore)
Air Popper (so dangerous its banned)
Nectarians (sp?)
Theme Erasers (i.e. R2-D2, E.T.)
E.T. Glow Finger
M.U.S.C.L.E.S (many unknown super creatures lurking everywhere or somesuch)
GarbagePailKids
Hmmm, thats about all i remember. And most of that stuff was owned by people i knew! Except for the KidSize checkout counter and E.T. finger- weiiiiird but appreciated!

"The only true knowledge exists in knowing, that you know nothing"
I was more into MTV, Rock and roll and its partners by the 80s but I did have a frustration pencil that did more wonders in timewasting during class than a rubics cube ever could.
My sister, who is 6 years younger than me had an easy bake oven, Woodsy's, A jem doll, the whole stinky strawberry shortcake gang, treetots, etc.
We had the intellevision, Atari, and a tandy computer (orange & black are mega harsh). We also played perfection, Clue, Simon, operation, payday, monopoly (I'm always the shoe lol), Kerplunk...
Speaking of Twister. I gave that and a bottle of baby oil to one of my friends as a wedding shower gag gift and she actually uses it - fights don't last long with this ice breaker apparently.
My husband played Risk a lot during the 80s and the guys still get together once a month at someone's house for a grudge match. Some people's kids http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//wink.gif

Risk kicked ass! We had a game of risk that lasted, no lie, like 5 weeks once. We kept the board set up in my buddies garage and would play after school until it was everybodies dinner time. I love that game. Wife hates it though, so I dont get to play at home :-( I brought the game when I was deployed overseas, and the guys on the ship would sit around my office and play for hours before retiring for the evening. MAN I miss that game!

cjsmurfette007 11-09-00, 08:47 PM My favorite was my lite brite. I would spend HOURS making little light bulb pegs, look like something. They NEVER looked right because of the strange placing of the peg holes. I had a bugs bunny set of refills, and it never looked like any of the characters.. My mom got sick of stepping on pegs, and she threw my lite bright away!! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//00buaaah.gif

Sal Collaziano 11-11-00, 01:52 AM Hi CJSmurfette007! Welcome to the community! Aww, that sounds mean what your Mother did. Grr! You're an imaginative one, aren't ya? http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif
Otherwise, I used to play Monopoly a lot. I had a bunch of Star Wars figures. hehe Ahh, I LOVED Risk too! If I wanna play anything like it nowadays, I simply play Red Alert or Red Alert 2 (westwood.com) online. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif
I only played the board games until I got my Atari 2600. Once that came around, I was finished with board games. Soon after, I had a Texas Instruments, then a Commodore Vic 20! Then a Commodore 64!! Bang! BBSing (Telecommuting of the 80s) http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

BlackCottonMafia 12-31-00, 08:35 PM bonjour... i came to this board purely by chance. i was eating a piece of xmas chocolate and the wrinkles on the surface of the candy reminded me of a garbage pail kid. crazy, eh?! so, i typed in "garbage pail kids" in the yahoo search engine and here i am.
something i want to ask all of you 80's gurus is if you remember a toy that was brought out in the early 80's... it was a foam ball with a hideous monster face painted on it!!! also, there was a stuffed toy that was really popular in those days... it was a big monster (could've been orange or greeb) that had horns and a plastic chain in his hands?!!! okay, these memories are REALLY vague and i must apologize if i'm not making much sense... but surely this must ring a few bells with one of you?!
also, do you remember wrist watches that were shaped like zoo animals?! they were really big, bulky and fuzzy...
okay, get back to me on this.
cheers and happy new years!

You are so right!! In LiteBrite, the holes weren't right for some reason... all of the things I wanted to make would not turn out because of it... http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//frown.gif I had an Intellivision as well... I thought it was so cool, until everyone got Atari and it was more popular... I had no one to trade games with... and no one wanted to come to my house to play it when the kid down the street had Atari... It had generic games, like "Space Armada" that was supposed to be like "Space Invaders", but it did have a cool Dungeon's and Dragon's" game....
I never mastered the Rubik's cube the "traditional way", I used to take the stickers off and replace them, then I got really manipulative, and started taking it apart http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//hammer.gif and putting it back together... (the pieces came apart in little segemnts")
Hey Girls... how about Rainbow Brite and Strawberry Shortcacke?
And I think that the rubber balls with faces on them that you guys are talking about were just simply called "Mad Balls" http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//icon36.gif
I could be wrong, but I seem to remember them as well.
Later!!!

AstroGirl 1-12-01, 06:15 PM Hey, everyone. Man, I really loved Kerplunk! That game was so awesome and I KICKED ASS at it too! As for toys, I loved Stretch Armstrong (it was my brother's) and My Buddy (also my brothers, but I whined so much that I got my own-the female version, Kid Sister). At school at recess, I remember playing Red Rover and Farmer in the Dell. Those were fun. I remember I used to think I was so cool when I stood up on the swings...

Another nifty thing I got somewhere are Robotics (think that's what they're called). You basically make your own robots, wire 'em up to this control panel and bring 'em to life!

Hey.. you guys remember Shrinky Dinks?
You painted them and put them in the oven and they would shrink into little hard ornament type things? (I had an E.T. set of those)...
And what about Big Wheels!!
My parents bought me an "Incredible Hulk" one, :yukky: (it was purple and green with decals of the hulk himself).. I was pretty depressed about it at first because all the other girls had "Barbie" and girl-ish ones... but I soon realized mine was the best! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//00wink.gif I rode all over the neighborhood on my big wheel, and mastered the "slamming on your brakes slide".
I was very into KISS at the time (always have been, always will be), I had Kiss dolls (Ace was the coolest), I would put on KISS concerts in my room with this one friend of mine who somewhat liked them... none of my other friends even knew who they were http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//frown.gif
My sister gave me the KISS ALIVE II album when I was 7, and I had a great time with that!
But most of all.. I was a roller skating fool... as long as I got a new pair of roller skates about every year from age 7 to age 14, everything was fine.. I was a "rink rat".. lived there every Friday and Saturday night.. got to hear alot of great 80's songs there! Alot of the "funkadelic" songs that were not being played on the radio, like "Midnight Star" and "George Clinton" and "L.A. Dream Team".
I sure miss those days http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//00buaaah.gif
I'm still trying to think of more toys, though... Later!! Tina http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//spin.gif

Sal Collaziano 1-13-01, 03:08 PM Morningmyst - sounds like your kids really enjoy them! I know I used to. It's fun to make your own things out of stuff meant for other things. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif I still wish I had those Star Wars ones.. I'm telling ya, I'm gonna buy one!
Construction Company! Oh, I remember those. And I never had 'em! I remember thinking they were so cool.. I never did get a set, though.. I think I remember the Robotics too. Damn, you have all the little toys I wanted but kinda grew out of (luckily for my parents). You were a kid a little later in the future than me. You're lucky! But hey, imagine if you had what kids have now!
Shrinky Dinks! Oh, yeah - I had lots of those.. They were cool to make and watch bake. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif hehe Very cool things!
Pogo-Bals? What the heck are those?
How about Weeble Wobbles. You never see commercials for THOSE anymore - do you? I guess I wouldn't know.. Are they still out there? Weeble Wobbles - but they don't fall down...

Roemello 1-13-01, 04:57 PM Pogo-Bals were like a cross between a ball and a pogo stick. It kind of looked like the planet Saturn. There was a ball in the middle of this big ring you stood on and bounced around and did freestyle tricks on (if you were good anyway).

Sal Collaziano 3-14-01, 09:13 AM Sticker Collections. I forgot all about those. I used to have a ton of Pac Man stickers. hehe Funny little things, they were. You mentioned Monchichi - I haven't heard that name in a long time. They were pretty popular at one point! I used to remember seeing the commercials all the time. Barbie with authentic tan lines? hehe Jeez, they think of everything!

Didn't that go.. "Monchichi Monchichi, oh so cute and cuddely....." They were cool! I remember the cartoon for them as well...
And sticker collections! I had forgotten about them too!!! Scratch N' Sniffs were the best!
Barbie with tan lines.. I remember the white that was supposed to be her tan lines scratched off pretty easily, though http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//frown.gif so I couldn't put her in strapless dresses or it would show.. I would always pretend like she had a sunburn and she was peeling.
How about My Little Pony? Strawberry Shortcake.. Rainbow Brite.. any of the girls here remember "Glamour Gals"? or was is Glamour dolls? I'm thinking it was gals... they were like miniature barbies.. of course they were supermodels... I had a bunch of them.. I had to have them all!
well... thats all I have for now.. we've had this topic in recent time, so in order for me to not sound redundant, I will wait for the new members to mention some other things!!

MondoMike2037 3-16-01, 12:45 AM Hey guys-
Anyone still have the old Atari console? Here in KC, there is a place located in one of those industrial caves that have crates of old Atari games for the 2600 & 7800 consoles. They also have a website to order them. They only cost 2 bucks a piece. Check it out!
www.atariclassic.com (http://www.atariclassic.com)
Amazingly enough I still have the old family Atari 2600 & it still works. My daughter & I just pulled it out of the closet & played with it just a few weeks ago. Some of the games we have are Space Invaders, Asteriods, ET, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Yar's Revenge & Zaxxon! If that won't take you back to the 80's, nothing will! LOL!!

What about those mermaid things. I dont remember what they were called, but they were mermaid dolls, and had lillie pads that you stuck them in. In fact I think they came with a baby mermaid too.
Has any one seen Fisher Price "People" these days? They look so totally different. Weebles wobble, but they dont fall down.
D2Girl.. I remember those mermaid things... my best friend that I grew up with had a ton of them.. (She later went on to become a "professional" mermaid at Weeki Wachee Springs, FL) I'll have to ask her if she remembers what they are called...

On a side note, anyone else notice that most of the toys from back in the day would never be released today because they were potentually deadly(Lawn Darts anyone?)I'll never forget the time I got the first stretch armstrong, and inside the box was a little piece of paper that had a warning that said,if the toy was damaged and the inner goo(for lack of a better word)leaked out,it had to be discarded imediatly because the goo was poisonous.I guess we were just tougher back then.

My brother and I had a pair of boxing gloves and he had one and I had another. I would punch him below the belt (OUCH!) and he'd hit me in the chest! We both abused each other. He'd throw me against the kitchen wall and grab my leg (even into my late teen, early 20's) when I tried to walk by and when I'd pull hard enough, he'd let go and I'd fall on my face! Even after all the fighting, we would still hang out together at the mall & movies. He didn't have a brother, just a sister so my Barbies would play with his Hot Wheels!
Yup! I know how your brother felt, Pebbles42. I had no brothers and two sisters(both older). My oldest sister was pretty much out of the house before I was old enough to hang out. Now my other sister, we did a lot of hanging out. High school together. College together. It was cool. She was one of my best friends. 80's lovers
I am amazed that these kids now are so bored with everything today. We all had so much FUN with our 80s toys. I tell my nephew, when he visits, to go play with his toys instead of watching so much tv. Kid shows were on only in the mornings growing at my house and my parents put us outside in the afternoon we did't come home until dinner time (6pm) or when the street lights came on. At that point where ever you were you ran for your life to get home!! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif "These kids today" is a phrase I thought I would never use oh well. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gifhttp://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

Speaking of caterpillars, does anybody remember that worm with the head that lights up when you squeezed his body? I think it was called "GLOWORM".
A huge toy in stores was "CABBAGE PATCH KIDS" dolls that came with birth certificates. I think their still around, but in the 80's people were ordering them because they sold so fast.
One of the coolest teddy bears of the 80's was a bear that talked and his mouth was animated to open and close in sync with the words. It was "TEDDY RUSKBIN".
They also came out with a (caterpillar) friend for Teddy Ruskbin that you plugged a cord between the two, and they would talk to each other. Don't remember the caterpillar's name though, they were both about a foot and a half tall, and I think I still have both characters someplace in storage.

Teddy Ruxpin. Now that brings to mind a funny story. My Neice got one of those for Christmas back in the 80's. Now, me... Being the prankster I was, thought it would be funny to mess with her a little bit. So! While she wasn't playing with it, I slipped Twisted Sister into the tape player in his back (keyed up to play "I wanna Rock")...
Man! When she fired that thing up and Dee's voice started screaming at her, she freaked. Teddy's little eye's were rolling around like he was possessed. And his mouth was very definitely NOT moving to the words. Yup! She started crying and my sister banned me from ever playing with her toys again. Hehe! ReagansRenegade 4-14-01, 06:09 PM Shakey thats awesome, if cruel, http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif I remember in Kindergarten someone brought a Teddy Ruxpin in. Man I was so envious, I thought it was like the most ingenious thing ever created, even better then Velcro sneakers (which I also envied). However, I DID have He-Mans and those plastic stickers that stuck to glass, those were great poor-kid toys! well I got other stuff too, like a cardboard Supermarket! No kidding- cardboard conveyer belt, cardboard register, cardboard food boxes, etc. Yes I was quite the shopkeep and I took it much too seriously. I think I added a lot of sales tax.

"Super Balls", The ones that bounced real high with a short toss, there still around.
The other one though, was that rubber spider/octapus kind of toy that you threw at a wall or window and they slowly crawled down the surface as if they were walking. Anybody remember them or what they were called?

relivingmyheyday 4-16-01, 03:49 PM Gosh, we had a Stretch-Armstrong doll we loved! Only thing is we poked him with pins to see what made him stretch so he had Band-Aids all over him. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif
My best friend had a Merlin too, I was so jealous! Oh and remember Suntan Tuesday Taylor? She had a fliparound head. One half blonde and the other half brunette. We had tons of Barbies too. SuperStar Barbie and Golden [something] Barbie. We had the Family dolls too, the whole set: Daddy, Mommy and Baby.
We also had this really cool record-player that had disco-lights in the side of it. We used to take my friend's a parakeet and put him in an empty Slime bucket and run him around on the record player.
Twisted, I know, but when you're a kid..... You guys are the best!

Pain is weakness leaving your body
I had a Sit N' Spin in the early 80s.. I loved that thing.. spun around till I was sick.. and fell right to sleep.. (kinda like a hangover! ha ha hahttp://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif )
It was fun to double up on it.. have someone sit across from you and you could really spin fast!!
getting sick now.... http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//00drunk.gif

queen_dirk2112 5-05-01, 04:18 AM I loved the toys back in the 80s,they were so cool!!!Since I'm a girl,of course I had some neat toys for girls such as Barbie dolls,Rainbow Brite, the Care Bears and My Little Pony. But I also liked playing with boy toys like legos and Nintendo, the original Sega Masters System, and the Atari.I believe that if I had to pick a toy in the 80s that was a prized possession
for me would have to be my talking Cricket doll.I also had a Corky(I believe that was Cricket's brother)talking doll.Yet I loved Snoopy Snow Cone, that cute glo worm, and this other toy which I can't remember the name. It's that robot that you place cards in and the robot's got red buttons on one side and yellow buttons on the other side.Do any of you know what toy I am talking about?

Hey, I loved (and still love) the Transformers! :) :)
I've got lots of Transformers memorabilia (comic books, a complete set of Transformers Action Cards, a Rhino-release VHS copy of Transformers: The Movie, a cassette copy of Transformers: The Movie's soundtrack, a Transformers: Generation 2 pullover jacket, etc.)--but no action figures.
Iluvthe80s 9-05-01, 12:19 AM I still have my Rubik's Cube and some stuffed animals. The rest was either handed down to my younger sister or given to Goodwill over the years.
Roemello 9-05-01, 01:46 AM Sadly, most of my 80's toys are loooooong gone :( All I have left is some transformers, some Dino-Riders, a few ninja turtles, thundercats...think that's it. My younger nephews play with 'em when they come over :)

I actually tried to switch the stickers on the rubik's cube so i could win that way.God it was hard! I even had the link-thing that was supposed to be a sequel.
Anyway as far as the toys,
I had the hotwheels, the star wars,My open mind, even let me to having a toy mermaid and a strawberry shortcake book and game(DON"T BOTHER TEASING I DON"T CARE!) What i can say,i liked her.Maybe she made me hungry.
Plus i had that two best,M.A.S.K and GI JOE.
Kids today don't know what toys are.
dischordia 9-05-01, 06:04 AM How I hated Rubik's cube! Never solved it, ended up taking the stickers off and cheating.
Hacky Sacks? Hated those too.
I looooved my Castle Greyskull. That was one of the first 'name brand' toys I ever got as a kid.
(My parents were big on 'developing my imagination' or so they said.)

Roemello 9-05-01, 05:46 PM I have pictures somewhere of my Castle Greyskull, Snake Mountain, and even that HUGE Eternia set (I had the whole damn He-Man universe as a kid...LOL).
I'll have to post those up when I get the chance...
Does anyone remember the Monchachies? I know the spelling sucks.. They were tiny little Monkies.. The girl Monchachie had a little bow on her head and they could suck their thumbs.
I can still remember the gingle for them
"Monchachie Monchachie ah so cute and cuddley put the thumb in the mouth it is really neat.. watch them wiggle their feet"
I know i am weird.. but i still have them.
Come on someone has to remember those?
Iluvthe80s 9-05-01, 08:31 PM I remember the Monchachis, Milani. I still remember that song in the commercial too.
In the '80s, I've viewed plenty of toy-based, blockbuster cartoons--especially Transformers.
:) :) :) :) :) :)
I remember the Monchachis, Milani. I still remember that song in the commercial too.
Thank you,
I thought i was the only one who rememebered them.

I think those toys were actually called Monchichi.
My little sis had a large collection of those monkeybears (or whatever they represented) with all the additional goodies.
I can vividly remember that my sis once was in a lot of trouble after reciting a quite dirty rhyme at the dinner table which included the name of the toys... :D
elizabeth 4-19-02, 09:11 PM Back again:
I can't help coming back it's great remembering the 80s! This time I wanted to mention some of the toys that were big then and now people are collecting.
I couldn't believe it, I went on e.bay and somebody was offering Dancerella ballerina doll! When you pressed her crown she kicked out her legs like she was dancing. I hope you guys don't think this thread is too silly:-)
here are some of the toys that were my absolute favourites:
strawberry shortcake and friends
cabbage patch
smurfs
Western Barbie and her travel bus
Prancing Pony
mermaid dolls
Remember Lite-brite, slinky and rubix cube?
Elizabeth
Shortie Blonde 4-19-02, 09:15 PM We (my parents) recently (maybe a year ago) got rid of my and my siblings' lite brite. I lost my rubix cube somewhere when I moved. I was deprived of slinkys when I was little.
Iluvthe80s 4-19-02, 10:30 PM I still have a Sea Wee. Remember those? It was usually common to get one with the same hair color as you.
I had Western Barbie and Ken . :p Also Barbie pool. I had a generic version of Barbie van. My mom got it at a yard sale!
We sure had some great toys back then. :p
I don't think I have any of my toys from the 80's. :( Does anyone? ( Roem does! ;) )
80sSmurf 4-20-02, 08:26 AM I was/am a LEGOman....no not in that sense, I just collected all the LEGO I could get my greasy li'l hands on....I remember coming home from scholl on a friday and starting buliding a LEGO city (this was in my pre-C64 times). When I was finished by sunday, I'd usually play with it for 30 mins, where the city usually was destroyed by some monster or a gang, then I'd start all over building a new city (for Legozilla to destroy)....Building was always the most fun when playing with LEGO
The only 80s toys I can think that I still have are my Rubiks Cube, and a 4-sided Pyramid rubiks-type thing. I don't remember what it's called. I also have a grey ball thingy that has four grooves in it with different colored beads and you have to get the same colored beads to be all in one circular groove....ok this is not making any sense at all trying to describe it, but I don't know what it's called either. It's just another one of those rubiksy things in a circle. I liked these kind of toys in the 80s.:p

That I do  In my attic I got some transformers, TMNT, ThunderCats, DinoRiders, Sectaurs, Legos (I was pretty big on those two Smurf :) ), Robotix, Construction Company (kinda like legos, but you interlocked the pieces with a littly toy screwdriver  ) and my pogo bal :D Think that's it....just a few things I was able to hide away from my mother's urge to get rid of it all as I got older  Now it gets the privledge of stewing in my attic :p
The stuff I had that got tossed though were my nearly complete collection of Masters of the Universe figures and playsets, tons more Transformers, Star Wars stuff, among plenty of other stuff I can't even remember off-hand :p
I made out pretty good for a lil ghetto boy :)
CinderGirl 4-21-02, 07:04 PM I'd have to really start digging through my stuff to know what all I have, or don't have. *lol* I do know that I still have my Donny Osmond doll! (In his purple, torn outfit)
Oh, and a Rubiks Cube -- can't forget that! :)
Polar Bear Jeff 4-21-02, 07:47 PM I still have some of my 80s toys, including my LEGOs and toy cars.

Oh, I think I might still have a few around somewhere.... ;)
djdaffy1227 4-23-02, 09:35 PM I still have all my Star Wars ACTION FIGURES!! and some Battlestar Galactica ACTION FIGURES!! and my Mork ACTION FIGURE that Val likes :)
I still have all kinds of my goodies from the 80's around. Mostly shoved in boxes at Mom's. Give's me something to do when I go home. :)
I still have some Star Wars action figures. I also have these plates you can move around and create all these different looking vans and then color them, it's called "Little Van Goes". :)
80's were the decade of the action figure. Star Wars action figures from all 3 movies. Go-Bots, Rock Lords, Transformers, Masters of the Universe, Thundercats, G.I. Joes (small ones that looked less like a Ken doll), and BOARD GAMES. Board games were churned out in mass amounts. Anything you could think of conceptually was made into a board game and sold in everything from the corner Perry's or Arbor Drugs to Toys R Us. Of course there were also lots of plush things like Pund Puppies, Pound Purries, Popples, and Glow Worms.
I think I still have a bag full of the original line of puppets made to go with the Muppet Show and the Muppet movies. The Animal one was so gool cuz you could make his eyebrows move.
Ugly Kid Jeff72 5-20-03, 01:35 PM Does anyone still have LaserTag. What a cool game that was for the time!
You have to admit we had some awesome games!

sean85zx 2-22-05, 03:02 PM Oh yes!!!
------------------
HAHAHA I Had those! I had Castle Greyskull AND Snake Mountain (THe microphone one) It was great. I had a TON of action figures, but my favorite was He-Man and Battlecat
bbwteofila 3-17-05, 05:26 PM My little sister was the one who benefitted the most from the 80's toys. She has all of the Jems and the Holograms dolls -- I should know, I bought them for her. My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, and Rainbow Brite out the wazoo -- would you believe mom still has all that stuff in the attic? My other sister, the one who's 2 years younger than me, and I played with Little People (please tell me there's someone who remembers them - lol), Barbies, Weebles (wobbles but they won't fall down :hyper: ), and Big Wheels. We actually went OUTSIDE and played, unlike the kids of today. Now I'm the one buying He-Man stuff for my son and Transformers for my daughter!
I don't have any of my toys, but I DO still have some of my comic books from the 80's.....Most in excellent condition.
The toys I remember from the 80s... so many! First, there was Space Invaders, invented in Japan in 1978 and making waves here in England in 1980 (they were first exhibited at a UK trade show in 1979). We had one installed in my school common room in 1981. Mind blowing. A bit later, there was Pac-Man - WACCA, WACCA,WACCA!
Then there was Rubik's Cube... an obscure Hungarian puzzle called Magic Cube, only available behind the Iron Curtain, in 1980 Ideal Toys renamed it Rubik's Cube and released it to the Western World. We went mad for it. It lived on the sofa in our house and members of the family would pick it up and attempt to do it whilst watching the telly. We never managed it, but I was so proud when I completed ONE SIDE!!
Then there were compact discs, the new and horribly expensive bricksize handheld mobile phones (seemed SO fascinating!!) and CB radio. This American 1940s invention took a long time to make it to England. An illegal cult from c 1979 onwards, in 1980 a mass rally in London demanded its legalisation. On the 2nd of November 1981, Al Cross, the American creator of CB, made the first legal CB radio call in England, parked in a Rolls Royce in Trafalgar Square. His "handle" was, of course, "CB'er Number One"! A CB radio licence cost £10. We went mad on it and were desperate to "breaker break" or have an "eyeball"!
They were interesting times - one of my favourite things in 1982 were deeleyboppers - a headband with springs and glitter covered baubles! Patented in 1982, with claim of usage of the name since 1981, the name had previously been used for another toy, interconnecting building blocks. I could say so much more. The 80s were my favourite era, fast moving and fun. :)
Polethebear 3-23-05, 09:54 PM I am sure I probably posted a response to this somewhere but I will jump in again.
My all time favorite is/was GI Joe.Followed by Mask and well there wasn't anybody else. :D
Seriously,I liked the transformers and gobots(anybody notice how those cartoons were sorta an early exposure for us to japanesse animation). I liked He-man untill the infamous slime pit.
I liked some girl stuff too,I liked strawberry shortcake.I can remember my christimas's and most of my birthdays and what I got from that time period.
IwantWS6 3-23-05, 11:20 PM I always wanted Eternia, You know that He-Man playset that was supposed to be huge.My mom and I still joke about wanting that to this day.
I had Castle Greyskull, but I dont remember any mic coming w/ it...

a-harulz 3-30-05, 06:07 PM I was a child in the 80's...I had strawberry shortcake doll, My little pony and his house, glow worm, pound puppies, care bears, pogo ball (purple and pink) and barbies of course. :D
One toy I remember well was the See-N-Say. I probably drove my parents nuts with those things, and best of all, when one broke, I'd get another one. The first one I got I was afraid of, for some reason, but once I started playing with it, I wouldn't stop until I pulled the string clear out.
Hey MisterE, don't feel bad. You know what it is like to have your parents tell your wife that you were afraid of GRASS....(Yes, the kind in a lawn), without mentioning to her that I was a BABY at the time and not yet able to walk?
whistledog 4-04-05, 12:06 PM I still have most of my Masters of the Universe Action figures. The playsets however broke long ago and got thrown out :(
I had the Snake Mountain playset. It was purple and it came with a microphone that looked like a snake. I used to have such fun with that thing
http://free.imd.it/masters/MOTU%20toys%20images/MOTU-LA-SNAKE_MOUNTAIN.jpg
I even had all of the Super Friends: Super Powers Action Figures. I remember back in 1991, I sold the whole box of 'em at a Yard Sale for $3 so I could have money to buy some Baseball Cards. Boy, was my mom pissed off
I also had (and still do have) a bunch of those rubber WWF Wrestling figures. I even had the plastic wrestling ring that the wrestlers could fight in, but I traded that to my neighbour for a sling shot back in 1993
midges girl 4-21-05, 07:08 AM hi all haven't been on here for a while but came on to ask does anyone remember the toy "oh penny". She was a little figure who lived in a big house called 3 gables she had a little brother called skip. You could also collect other homes for her, the caravan, the camper plus others. Not many people remember her does anyone on here? cheers guys from lisa. :thumb:
hi me again does anyone remember Jem and the holagrams and the misfits, i just found a website with all their songs, its so cool.
well cheers guys from lisa :thumb:
Remember the Barbie knockoffs called Darci? Was supposed to be a supermodel doll. Had a girl in my class named Darlene who took advantage of her skinniness and superlong hair to gussy herself up and wore all these high fashion clothes to school. Changed her name to Darci after the doll came out.
I really wasnt into alot of toys but the one I do remember HAVING to have was Microdots. They were pre transformers....
Lets see... I still have all 4 of My Little Ponies, a couple of Strawberry Shortcakes, an Atari 2600, a Popple, a stuffed Ewok(Wicket), hubby has original Star Wars figures,my Cabbage Patch, all my Barbies and Barbie horses, numerous dolls(Baby Alive, Baby Grows Up are two i can think of right now). I have my Chubbles still..and Im sure alot more I can't think of right now..LOL.
also, there was a stuffed toy that was really popular in those days... it was a big monster (could've been orange or greeb) that had horns and a plastic chain in his hands?!!!
He was called My Pet Monster...I had a mini one,lol...it became a favorite toy of my dog's a few years ago and when he was hit by a car and died..it was buried with him...Sad memory..but he loved that thing. It was his favorite "fetch" toy.
Well my favorite toys of the 80's were of course transformers and GI Joe, i loved the Headmaster transformer and the Tomahawk GI Joe chopper. Who would have thought that i would eventually become a GI (Marine Corps). I did own the GI Joe Aircraft carrier, that thing was huge and it must have cost alot of money, my uncle bought it for me. I also owned Cobra's lair or house with the stealth planes. One of my favorite GI joe toys was the desert HMMV i just loved that thing.
fungirl3 7-08-05, 01:20 AM Did anyone ever play Smurf Ahoy? It was this plastic boat that balanced on the sides of the box it came in and you had all these little cardboard cut out smurfs with little plastic bases. The object was to place as many smurfs as possible on your side of the boat without making it tip. I wish I had kept it!
Masters Of The Universe were definitely my favorite action figures. But my favorite toys of all time were Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. They actually began in the late '60s, but the '80s is when I played with them. My sister, brother and I would race them and even have tournaments with all of the cars to see which one would be the champion. I still have all 300+ of my cars in my closet.
