View Full Version : Something to Think About

These words were written by Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx in his online diary. I felt they were profound and thought provoking, so I wanted to share. Enjoy.

A glimpse of the world . . .

If we could shrink the earth's population to a village of precisely 100

people, with all the existing human ratios remaining the same, it would

look

something like the following:

57 Asians

21 Europeans

14 from the Western Hemisphere, both north and south

8 Africans

52 would be female

48 would be male

70 would be non-white

30 would be white

70 would be non-Christian

30 would be Christian

89 would be heterosexual

11 would be homosexual

6 people would possess 59% of the entire world's wealth and all 6 would be

from the United States.

80 would live in substandard housing

70 would be unable to read

50 would suffer from malnutrition

1 would be near death

1 would be near birth

1 (yes, only 1) would have a college education

1 would own a computer

When one considers our world from such a compressed perspective, the need

for acceptance, understanding and education becomes glaringly apparent.

More things to ponder...

If you woke up this morning with more health than illness... you are more

blessed than the million who will not survive this week.

If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of

imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation ...you are

ahead of 500 million people in the world.

If you can attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest,

torture, or death...you are more blessed than three billion people in the

world.

If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof

overhead

and a place to sleep... you are richer than 75% of this world.

If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish

someplace... you are among the top 8% of the worlds wealthy.

If your parents are still alive and still married, you are very rare.

If you can read this message, you just received a double blessing in that

someone was thinking of you, and furthermore, you are more blessed than

over

two billion people in the world that cannot read at all.

Work like you don't need the money.

Love like you've never been hurt.

Dance like nobody's watching.

Sing like nobody's listening.

Live like it's Heaven on Earth.

Now those are words to live by, if I have ever seen any. Thank you for the post, Foxxy. It was very refreshing. :)

Thanks for sharing that Foxxy, it really helped make a dumpy day a bit brighter. :) I must say that the words Mr. Sixx conveyed are wise and observant. I have a new found respect for Mr. Sixx. :thumb:

It is very thought provoking, I agree. Was anyone else's first thought: Nikki Sixx??? lol Just doesn't seem like the type to do the research, is all. ;)

The ending is something we all should aspire to do.

This one's been circulating in e-mails for a while, actually. Oddly, Manny Charlton (ex-Nazareth) posted the exact same one up on his own message board last summer.

You can read a much closer look at the accuracy of the numbers by clicking here. (http://www.snopes.com/science/stats/populate.htm )

Definitely puts things in perspective...when looked at this way, each and every one of us here has one hell of a spectacular life compared to how millions worldwide have it....

Some very powerful words. Definitely something to think about. Think we all take things for granted here. We've never had it really hard compared to most people in this world. Really makes you appreciate what you have right now, doesn't it???

Not to burst everyone's bubble but the first part was not written by Sixx - the part down to "more things to ponder" stems from an email that has been sent around...... Most of the figures check out, but some are slightly off.......still a great message though :)

Kayenne and Cartoon_Chris ~ I know, and you're both right. I just happened to find his version on the Motely board. I didn't want to clog the message with explanations, so I left it as is but....I loved it and wanted to share that with all you guys and gals. :)

And Chris....thanks for that link too. :)

Been away so I couldn't answer this one, but had to, cause from the moment i read it, i had to post this ! Foxxy as much as I like ya, I disagree. Well I don't disagree as much as I first wanna make sure I understood it right ! So there are people with much worse lot than us ! So Do we have to be less demanding in term of prosperity, democracy and so forth, and just be content with what we have cause they do or do they try to be as demanding as us and fight to gain freedom ! Well I'm not ashamed of living in a prosperous country and i think our role is not to lessen standarts but to up it for everybody ! If that's what you meant then sorry !
