View Full Version : Herbie Hancock | 'Rockit' JS 1-10-02, 06:08 PM Last night, I heard Herbie Hancock's Rockit (the exact title?). I assume it's a one-hit wonder. Jasper 1-10-02, 07:08 PM While ROCKIT may be his only hit on the pop charts. Herbie Hancock is a very accomplished Jazz musician, with a TON of albums to his credit. He just happened to chart with ROCKIT. He is probably the most talented "one hit wonder" ever. Trixter 1-10-02, 07:50 PM I agree Jasper! Herbie has a lot more accomplishments than just "Rockit" to his list of credits. Sadly though, he will only be remembered for "Rockit" by the majority of MTV'ers!! JS 1-10-02, 08:57 PM Yes, I know Hancock is a jazz musician, first and foremost. abcmcd 1-10-02, 10:07 PM Herbie has an absolutely amazing resume. He's been at it over 40 years. The video for "Rockit" was pretty cool, except those disembodied legs walking around used to kind of freak me out. Flix 1-11-02, 03:31 AM The Rockit video was really cool. Rockit always reminds me of breakdancing and electric boogie though. ironeagle1 1-16-02, 10:30 PM Herbie Hancock rocks and kicks ass!!! djdaffy1227 1-16-02, 11:55 PM Herbie Hancock is technically not even a one hit wonder. "Rock it" didn't even go top 40. He has a greatest hits collection. It is a part of the Ken Burns Jazz series. He was in Miles Davis' group at one time. Tinajo 1-27-02, 12:16 PM Well it SHOULD have been a hit, Daffy! ;) (Daffy... My favorite!) That was a great song and video... *Tinajo listens to it regularly on mp3* Anyone else think that in that one line in the song that he is saying "Do you wanna a cigarette?" JS 2-11-02, 10:17 PM I might've seen the Rockit video, back in the '80s. stymie71890 2-26-02, 02:40 PM Rockit, in an indirect way, was responsible for me getting into bebop in a big way. When I first started getting curious about jazz, I picked up one of Herbie's albums simply because I remembered Rockit. That album (The New Standard, plus an import of Flood) devastated me, and set me on a course towards becoming quite a jazz fan. Plus, Rockit is a badass track. If you like that, find a copy of Flood (it's a Japan-ony release) and play it loud. You'll like it. Trust me on this one. |
