There are SOOOO many one hit wonders, nobody can possibly cover all of them.

I would have to say that out of all the one hit wonders, the song that I rank in the top 5 would have to be:

John Parr's song Naughty Naughty

Sure there are others, like Shattered Dreams by Johnny Hates Jazz, Promises by When In Rome, and MANY MANY others (not at home to look at my mp3 list), but that is one of my favorites.

I finally just starting recording compilation CDs for myself. I think I have 5 right now.

Anyway, that is one of my most favorite one hit wonders by an 80's band (well, I don't know if John Parr ever had a full time band) that isn't putting out records anymore.

He also sang the theme to St Elmo's Fire (Man In Motion) and Running Away With You/Restless Heart from The Running Man.

Didn't he also sing the song or a song from St. Elmo's Fire?

Yes. That is what the last line of my message says.

I really don't consider John Parr a one hit wonder. Having two hits doesn't garner him that title. "Naughty Naughty" and "St. Elmo's Fire (Man In Motion)" were the songs he's best known for. There was, however, a thread in another forum or maybe it was here, on two-hit wonders. I think he'd be better classified under that category. :)

While that certainly is a possibility, John Parr is really only widely known for St. Elmo's Fire. The song Naughty Naughty hasn't been played regularly for many years.

I still hear St. Elmo's Fire once in a while. This is why I classify him more as a one hit wonder. He put out 3 or 4 albums, but he has only received notariety for that theme song.

One hit wonder or not...

The girl in teh video that slaps him when she gets out of his car is Lisa Rinna (spelling?) who was on Melrose Place. Plus she was nude in playboy while pregnant.
Just a little trivia for ya!

BTW, I believe MAN IN MOTION from St Elmo's Fire probably charted higher than NAUGHTY NAUGHTY.

I love that song Naughty Naughty! I had forgotten all about that. I do still have it on tape though. I'll have to try to download that one.

Why is it that people like that all but disappear from the music scene but people like Eminem have a career? Why is God so mean?

You bet I got it the week it came out!
You can order the rereleased debut by clicking here. (http://www.cdnow.com/from=sr-181894/cgi-bin/mserver/SID=2082538550/pagename=/RP/CDN/FIND/album.html/artistid=PARR*JOHN/itemid=1367642)
Look it's even on sale for 20% off unlike the week it was released when I got it!
Oh well... unfortunately, "St. Elmo's Fire" was not included as a bonus track as it should- most reissues include bonus tracks. Must've been licensing problems between the music and the movie copyrights.

While some say John Parr is a two hit wonder, almost every band that is known as a one hit wonder only ever had *one* song hit the charts. St Elmo's Fire was on the charts in late 1985, but I've never seen Naughty Naughty listed on any chart, which is why I said hes more of a one hit wonder.

I actually like several of his songs. Naughty Naughty, St Elmo's Fire, Running Away With You (Restless Heart), and Two Hearts.

I feel he deserves more recognition than he has received.

I agree.
I like the 2nd album, though not as much as the 1st. My favorite was "King Of Lies".
It was available on CD, but I never got it because I felt my collection was not complete without the 1st one being on CD.
Now I got the 1st reissue, now the 2nd is deleted. :(

John Parr is indeed a two hit wonder. Naughty naughty went to #23 on the Billboard hot 100 charts. Johnny Hates Jazz hit top 40 again with "I don't want to be a hero" (I have played both songs on my Wednesday night 80's show). The U.S. definition of a one hit wonder is an artist who had only one hit in the Billboard top 40. They may have had many other hits from #41-#100 but top 40 is the sign of a "hit". Somewhere in this forum I posted a list of every one hit wonder of the 80's on the US charts. Also, in the top 40/pop rock forum I have posted every top 40 US hit in the 80's. When in Rome is a one hit wonder even though the follow up single hit hot 100.

I've heard Naughty, Naughty and St. Elmo's Fire (the song's actual title?) recently.
