Caligula 1-05-02, 07:11 PM Whats the book with those 5 twin chinese brothers they keep trying to kill:D Recker 1-05-02, 07:17 PM I was into mystery books like The Hardy Boys, Alfred Hitchcock's Three Investigators and The Secret Seven. I loved "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe" and also all of Williard Price's Adventure books. (About two teenaged boys who go on adventures capturing wild animals for their father's zoo (Very educational too)) I guess my favourite book as a child had to be "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". I read that so many times! Flix 1-06-02, 12:06 AM C.S. Lewis' Narnia series, Hardy Boys and all the classics from Jules Verne to Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. I always loved reading, so I had a childhood full of books. I wonder if any children really read as much as kids did a few decades back. TopCat 1-06-02, 07:28 AM UGH!! Not sure I can remember. Lisa, Bright and Dark. (I think that was the name??) Had to read it for school. I think it's becoming a bit of a lost art with television and computers taking everyone's attentions. My kids are always on their computer. greenfreak 1-06-02, 05:40 PM I read Encyclopedia Brown too! I, like most girls that age, read Judy Blume... I was the only person I knew who asked for books for Christmas lol Bogie 1-07-02, 08:17 AM Originally posted by Caligula ...5 twin chinese brothers... Read LOTR when I got a bit older too. sassy 1-07-02, 10:48 AM Chronicles of Narnia Lord of the Rings mostly anything i could get in the library. Still good. :) Shortie Blonde 1-08-02, 03:04 PM I read the Box Car Children and the Baby Sitter's Club. When I was like seven, I read Lord of the Rings up to the third one, cuz it was to boring for me at that age. When I was 13, I started reading the James Bond stories, because that's what I was writing and the movies weren't and still aren't enough for me. Trixter 1-08-02, 07:41 PM I remember in the late 70's reading "Charlie, The Lonesome Cougar" over and over. I loved that book and it was also a Disney film. :thumb: jen* 1-09-02, 12:06 AM One book comes to mind, though I read hundreds, Judy Blume's Forever . If you haven't read this book, you haven't lived. LOL Ted Nugent 1-10-02, 05:08 PM Originally posted by jen* One book comes to mind, though I read hundreds, Judy Blume's Forever . If you haven't read this book, you haven't lived. LOL What's the plot? What's so great about it? I'm always looking for a new book to read. :D jen* 1-10-02, 05:10 PM Um....It's kind of a love story. Hehe! It's probably pretty tame now, but in the late 70s/early 80s we had to hide it from the teachers.:naughty: :sneaky: Ted Nugent 1-10-02, 05:17 PM Originally posted by jen* Um....It's kind of a love story. ImSoooSure 1-11-02, 02:26 AM I read mostly C.S. Lewis. I also read Nancy Drew and The Boxcar Kids. I remember reading a lot of James Herbert novels especially his trilogy about Rats: The Rats Lair Domain They made a film of The Rats, but it was awful, should never have been allowed. Like Rachel said in Friends about reading books "It's like having your own little movie in your head". The trouble is that once you've read the script and directed your own perfect movie, how can anyone else compete? BrandyBlue 1-21-02, 08:40 PM "The Cat Ate My Gymsuit" "There's a Bat in Bunk Five" anything Judy Blume the Trixie Belden series (I have them all still) TinTin (British cartoon series--very funny!) Shortie Blonde 1-22-02, 12:00 AM now that's a thought... txgirl 1-24-02, 04:13 PM Are you there God it's me Margrette---Judy Blume V.C. Andrews (Still have the Flower in the Attic Series) Encyclpedia Brown Hardy Boys Nancy Drew Mysteries Chrisscross 2-07-02, 11:27 AM Hey Bogie, I *loved* the Famous Five and Secret Seven. I was also into the Mallory Towers series and the one about the O'Sullivan twins (Pat and Isabel) . Then, of course, there was Anne of Green Gables. It's amazing how many languages she was translated into. I've had people from Poand and Hungary sing its praises. I also read Beverly Cleary and Judy Blume and Norma Klein, who no one seems to have heard of for some reason. When I was really little, there was this French series about a girl called Martine having all these adventures. My parents used to read those to me all the time. Maybe the reason kids don't read that much these days is because their parents don't read to them as much as ours did? Then again, that probably has nothing to do with it. Mary 2-08-02, 08:55 AM Originally posted by BrandyBlue "The Cat Ate My Gymsuit" "There's a Bat in Bunk Five" Yay! Brandy, you're the only other person I know who remembers there was a sequel to "The Cat Ate My Gymsuit." :D I have the same favorites as many of you... ;) Beverly Cleary, esp. Ramona Judy Blume - "Starring Sally J. Friedman as Herself" was my favorite Walter Farley - "The Black Stallion and the Girl" I need to find another copy of this one, I can't believe I gave it away. Marguerite Henry - "King of the Wind" Besides the classics above, any horse book I could get my paws on. Jean Slaughter Doty was my favorite author of such... "Summer Pony," etc. L.M. Montgomery - Anne of Green Gables series... though I didn't start reading them until the movies came out, when I was in 7th grade. I still reread the entire series at least once a year. Laura Ingalls Wilder - Little House series... again, I reread these almost every year. :) Pamela Dean- "The Secret Country". I just found the two sequels this year. Meredith Ann Pierce - "The Darkangel" trilogy. There were also two kind of similar series I don't remember that much about... about girls named Anastasia and Desdemona. Anyone else remember? My favorite "young adult" novel is "Golden Girl" by Nancy Tilly. I'm still looking for a copy of that, too. Picture books: "It Could Be Worse" ... I don't remember the author's name, but they have a copy in my doctor's office waiting room so I'll get back to you on that, LOL. Shortie Blonde 2-08-02, 03:11 PM OMG, I loved Ramona up until I was like in 7th grade. LOL. There was a new Ramona book released a few years ago I think. Think it was called Ramona's World. |
