Okay, I just read this book, and let me tell you, about 1/2 of it is total bullshit, at least in my opinion. A TON of talking about how decedant thier lives were before they were famous, and how nasty the house was, etc, etc. Seems as thought they think thier fans are still buying CIRCUS magazine and popping zits in the mirror.
However once they get into the story about how they really all shoud have died, and how they spent a TON of cash on drugs, especially NIKKI SIXX, it gets interesting. Mick Mars actually comes across as the most normal of the bunch.
Tommy Lee has some of his letters to PAM from when he was in prison in there.
I actually cried at the part where Vince Niel talks about his daughters death from Cancer. (he says the tumor they took out was a little over 6 pounds, more than Skylar wieghed when she was born)
overall a lot of good "yeah right" stories, and a lot of "I can believe that" stories. Seperating the BS and the facts is up to the reader, but if they did 1/3 the shit they claim they did, they are the baddest rockers ever.
Oh, major BS alert, when they start talking about Nikki and Lita Ford living together and "strange things" would happen in the house, because NIKKI was reading about witchcraft and satan worship. Complete utter BS, but it goes along with the vibe of hte book.
I would highly recommend this book, since it talks about all the things that made them the baddest on the planet, and how Nikki wrote all of GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS and Theater of Pain, and cant remember doing any of it due to Drug abuse. Plus, all the major events that happend, each member plus thier managers and friends have thier own chapters giving thier own side, so you can compare/contrast what happened and draw your own conclusion.
My conclusions are this:
Vince Neil is a big drunk, who lost a child and drinks to this day to kill that pain
Nikki Sixx is a tremendously egotistical guy, with limited musical, but tremendous lyrical talents.
Mick Mars is about 300 years old, and in constant pain, and drinks to hide the fact he is broke because of several bad marriages
And, Tommy Lee is still 12, and will never grow up, and that cost him a ton of jail time, and made him leave the band.
They also discuss the John Corabi years, and what went wrong there.
Good book, pick it up, and wade through the BS and enjoy!
