My computer and my internet provider do not play well together. I can be in the middle of something and lose internet connection until my comp feels like letting me back on. This happened earlier today, also it happened last night very shortly after I made my 1000th post.

Compaq says it's Cox and Cox says it's Compaq.

I have tried:
restarting computer
disabling internet and enabling through network connections.

When I do this, I get the message that there is a network cable unplugged (NOT POSSIBLE). Then, it will say internet connected 10.0Mbps.

Sometimes I can get online, sometimes I can't.

My operating system is Windows XP if this is of consequence and I have a cable modem.

Wavey .... Shakey ......SOMEBODY... Please help me!

Uh oh...I hope that Shakey will return in time. :D

Maybe you have to deinstall the provider software and reinstall it again - itīs possible that the software is corrupted without giving out an error message.
For a proper deinstallation I recommend RegCleaner, as it will automatically remove the registry entries, too. You can download it here (http://www.chip.de/downloads_updates/) (Best of Downloads 2001, click on "weiter") . Donīt worry about the 'Deutsch' remark...you can select your desired language during the installation.

The 10.0Mbps display is probably related to your network card. If you connect over the network, this is the maximum data rate. Consult the manual if you can switch the card to 100Mbps (this should be done with all cards in the network!). If one of the cards allows a maximum data rate of only 10Mbps, leave the settings alone.

Hope it will help you a little bit further.

Hey! I use Cox. Are you using the USB cable modem? I have not had that problem, but a buddy of mine has had one that sounds similar. He has to re-synchronize his modem. Basically he unplugs it for a minute and then plugs it back in.

The bit about the network cable being unplugged bothers me though. What kind of Nic card are you using? You may try replacing the cable also.

You're not using the software they give you are you? Also, are you using their proxy server? I don't use it at all. The only problem it causes me is that I cannot get to their home page. Don't want to anyway.

Let me know what is going on and I will try to help. :)
