View Full Version : "Close (to the Edit)"- Art of Noise
Does anyone remember this video from 1984? I thought it a bit strange an awkwardly cool at the same time. :) There's a little punked-out girl in the video with a dacshund running around while some guys weld and grind on a grand piano. All this is happening in a tunnel on railroad tracks.
I know The Art Of Noise did work with Tom Jones on "Kiss", but did they have any other videos besides these two? Did they ever collaborate with anyone else?
Iluvthe80s 1-01-02, 09:32 AM I loved that song! The Art Of Noise is just plain cool. Have you heard their version of "Peter Gunn"? I found that one at the Record Convention about 3 years back.
Videowise, I saw this video of theirs on VH-Classic recently. I forgot the name of the song though. The guy who played Rick on "The Young Ones" is in the video.

YES, I do remember "Peter Gunn"!! Thanks Stacy!! :thumb:
SurlyOne 1-01-02, 11:57 PM I'm a huge fan of AON. Here's a list of some of their videos:
"Beat Box"
"Close (To The Edit)"
"Moments In Love" - very funny, and not one single image has anything to do with the song
"Legs" (2 versions)
"Peter Gunn" (featuring Rik Mayall)
"Paranoimia" (featuring Max Headroom)
"Legacy" (a remix of "Legs")
"Dragnet" (from the 1987 movie)
"Kiss" (featuring Tom Jones)
"Metaforce" (featuring Rakim)
I think there's also a video for "Yebo," but I'm not positive.

I like Moments In Love with the iceskaters. Sorta weird, but it beats the annoying Max Headroom video. :)

And the interesting thing is, they recorded Duane's guitar parts via telephone! That was pretty impressive technology for 1985-86.

Really? That's interesting to note.
Thanks for that bit of info SurlyOne. :thumb:
The Art of Noise are one of my favourite bands. Check out 'The Best of the Art of Noise' on CD if you haven't already got it.
They did indeed collaborat with Tom Jones, and at that time basically relaunched his career from the doldrums.
Another interesting fact is that J.J Jeczalik, who was the wizard behind AON(along with Anne Dudley) produced for other artists, including Stephen 'Tintin' Duffy's 'Kiss Me' and some of the earlier Pet Shop Boy works.

So true Steve! I really liked his cd "The Lead And How To Swing It".
The singles "If I Only Knew" and his collaboration with Tori Amos on "I Wanna Get Back With You". That whole album is great!!! Thank you Art Of Noise!! :thumb:
It was indeed a great album, Trixter! I actually bought this for my best mate in 1992/3? Had a real weird front cover of Tom in his string vest, and a strange looking woman dressed a bit like the Teapot Man from the Wizard of Oz!
'If I only knew' was pretty successful, and confirmed that Uncle Tom was back to stay!
