Tina Turner has to be one of the best women in popular music. She puts so much energy into all her albums and from what i've seen on TV, her shows too. Private Dancer is another one of those albums with lots of energy and an album where every song just stands out on its own. This album spawned numerous hits with "Private Dancer", "Better Be Good To Me", the remake of an Al Green classic "Let's Stay Together", and of course the ever popular "What's Love Got To Do With It".
This album has a mix of soul and rock which can appeal to a mass audience. Definately one of Tina's best! My track picks for this album are: "Better Be Good To Me", "Private Dancer", "I Might Have Been Queen".
Tracks:
1. I Might Have Been Queen
2. What's Love Got To Do With It
3. Show Some Respect
4. I Can't Stand The Rain
5. Better Be Good To Me
6. Let's Stay Together
7. 1984
8. Steel Claw
9. Private Dancer

I love this album!! I would listen to "Private Dancer" on vinyl all the time when I was little (about 6 and 7 years old). (And since I didn't know how to flip the record, when it finished one side, I would have to get my mother to change it for me.) I haven't heard it in a while, but I loved to dance around the den to this record. My favorite songs are "Private Dancer" and "Better Be Good To Me". :thumb:

After Tina left Ike (and not a moment too soon), she went into a seclusion of sorts where she kind of disappeared in the mid 70's up to the early 80's - she appeared in the late 70's in the movie "Tommy" where she gave a good performance as the Acid Queen. That was about the highlight of her career for nearly a decade!
But when she came back, she came back as a powerhouse with major talent behind her. The talent never left, it just grew and grew and grew!! Although her voice was yet to peak, she was a powerhouse in this album as the comeback of the century, a symbol for a strong woman, an incredible role model, and as a musical talent that won't quit!
The album almost tells a story of her life, when you hear the first cut: I Might Have Been Queen - she's a sole survivor and she made it and she sure did! The album rips right into its performances! Although there are some slow ballads in it, the album only gets better and better. The only cut I really don't care for in this album is I Can't Stand the Rain - I can listen to it, but for some reason I just don't care for that song.
She had several chart toppers with this album, which include the following:
What's Love Got To Do With It - a cynical song, it also tells the truth about what love has to do with any relationship that exists
Private Dancer - about a woman who rents by the hour, she nonetheless has her dreams of a future, romance, a family. Don't judge anyone, listen to this song, she is like the rest of us.
Let's Stay Together (a remake of an Al Green song that was vastly improved, it sounds so romantic, so sensual, so haunting!)
There are two great songs that are full of soul and spunk: Better Be Good To Me and Steel Claw - they make me want to rip up the dance floor. These are great songs for a workout!
She does a cover of the Beatles' Help and does it in a poignant, touching way. It is sung slowly and the words come ringing out her plight in life, telling the world how she needs assistance to make it through life. We all need help at one time or another in our lives, this song just reaches out and burns/touches the heart of the listener. There is so much raw pain and anguish in this song.
If I were to take only a handful of albums to a desert island, this would be one of them. Whenever I take a long car trip, this is in the CD player about 90% of the time!

I always kinda liked this song. I was dancing on the basketball hoop pole singing it last week actually. LOL :wacky: "I'm your private dancer, dancing for money, do what you want me to do......" LOL There's a convant right near there, the nuns didn't look happy when they saw me outside their window. :D LOL

I love Tina Turner's "Private Dancer". Such an awesome album that returned Miss Turner back to the spotlight, where she so belonged. The super-success of this album made everyone ask "Ike who?", as Tina proved that she was a major talent in her own right!!! :thumb:
