Duran Duran will always be for me one of the most underrated band ever. They have a solid body of work. They were and still 20 years later much more than just an haircut band. Rio is their most important album between the year 81 and 85. With this album, Nick Rhodes, Simon Lebon,Roger Taylor and Andy Taylor, John Taylor truly capture the spirit of the "new wave" or early 80s music. Every songs is a joy to listen. The album have age very well and is now a classic of the genre. This is a must for any 80s lover and one of my all-time favorite.

I agree! Duran Duran were always underrated. They were more than just good looking guys. Simon Le Bon's lyrics were some of the best poetry I ever heard. Andy has always been an underrated guitarist too. My favorite songs off the album are: "Last Chance On The Stairway", "New Religion", and "Hold Back The Rain".

Rio was definitely an awesome album...I think it was the first I got and for quite a while, was my absolute favorite (until Seven & The Ragged Tiger drew me in). My favorite track would have to be 'Hungry Like the Wolf'...when it comes to women, that's how I am...LOL ;) 'Rio' is probably my second favorite with the underrated 'Last Chance on the Stairway' close behind.

Overall....awesome album. The only song I didn't care too much for was 'New Religion', but the rest I could listen to over and over :)

...and "New Religion" is one of my favorites on the album. This is the only (please don't shoot me) D2 album I had. Actually, I had the cassette, which I wore out.

Ahhhh, those were the days.

I dunno that I'd agree with the 'under-rated' staus conferred on Duran - looking at video footage of their fans at the time of the first album/Rio/Seven, whilst the critics may have been unkind, the fans were legion. If anything I think it would be fairer to say that history has been less than kind to them - the great unwashed has a very short - and selective - memory. It's easy to have a go in hindsight, but no-one else could touch them at the time. Domestically (in the UK) throughout the first half of the 80s the top honours were habitually contested by Duran, Wham! and Spandau but globally there was no contest - the other 2 didn't hold a candle to LeBonn, Rhodes and the Taylors.

And their product was always very good. Admittedly things started to wane a little on 7ATRT but two outstanding first albums more than made up for what the third lacked. And after splitting what was the first thing they did? Recruit Nile Rogers (as in Chic/Madonna co-writer and producer) for Notorious. Not bad, not bad at all.

It has to be said that on occasion they didn't particularly help themselves when it came to lyrics - 'You're about as easy as a nuclear war' being a particular favourite, but for the majority of the time they were untouchable in their genre.

And yes, my user name is . . .

I thought 'The Chauffer' was a wicked song. Anyone ever see the B&W video with the topless woman dancing in the underground parking garage? Very saucy :thumb:

One of their better albums - the version of "My Own Way" here is different to the single version.

It's also a shame that "The Chauffeur" was also not officially a single, but we did have a very nice sexy video to accompany this track in 1982.
