From the Official Queensr˙che FAQ

The members of Queensr˙che, all from the Seattle area, were involved in local bands before coming together under the name The Mob ( along with Chris DeGarmo, but not including Kell˙ Gra˙ ) and recorded a 4-song EP, which became the Queensr˙che EP. Recentl˙, Kell˙ Gra˙ ( guitarist with M˙th, Geoff's band prior to Queensr˙che ) joined the band as Chris DeGarmo's replacement ( see below ).
The members in order of birth:
Jan 14, 1959 : Geoff Tate: Vocals, Ke˙boards, Sax
Jan 29, 1961 : Eddie "Ed Bass" Jackson: Bass
Feb 23, 1962 : Michael Wilton: Guitars
June 15, 1963 : Scott Rockenfield: Percussion
June xx, 19xx : Kell˙ Gra˙: Guitars
After the band's first managers suggested that a better name be found, the band chose Queensreich, taken from the title of one of the songs on their EP, Queen of the Reich, but altered the spelling to Queensr˙che to avoid being mistaken for nazi s˙mpathizers.
Recentl˙, Chris DeGarmo (guitarist) left the band due to "creative differences", but remains ver˙ close friends with the remaining members of the band.

What is the Tri-R˙che and what changes has it gone through?
Man˙ moons ago, when the R˙chean kingdom came into being, it was decreed that a crest s˙mbolic of all that was good about Queensr˙che should be brought into existence (Ok, so that's not the real reason, but it was an interesting embellishment). Scott Rockenfield's brother, Todd designed a s˙mbol, now known as the Tri-R˙che.

Thanks for the bio! I have been just now discovering them in the last few years. My boyfriend is a big fan of their early stuff.

They lost my interest after the "Queensryche" EP. I remember watching them win the "Basement Bands" award on MTV. I was hopeful at that time. But after I heard "The Warning" it was like what happened? And after that it was over for me. When a group comes on to the scene and then starts feeling that their artistic ideas are more important than what their fans want to hear out of them, then they're through for me at that point. Unless they return to form. I have nothing against diversifiing as a musician (in fact, I promote that) just don't do it as a group unless you go solo or change your name or something. Stay true to the fans. That is the real reason why we're here as well as for our craft. Anyway, I may be wrong in my total assesment as I've seen some threads about them recently and everyone (who has a Metal opinion I respect ie: Pagan, KimJoy69, etc) is waiting in high anticipation for their new release. So maybe I need to check them out again.

Also, isn't it kind of ironic they came out of Seattle?? The same place that grunge was born. They must've cringed when Nirvana starting gaining popularity.

why? there's a slew of non-standard release material you can find out there that comes from compilations and side projects with Seattle/pacific_NW-based musicians crossing genre and demographic to collaborate. i've always thought of that area as enlightened, progressive, and fiercely independent, and that their music scene is one of the few that stands on its own. my interpretation has always been that that brand of artist is united by local civic pride and mutual respect for their pusuits, rather than divided by differing preferences. that region is so varied and so fertile. one of america's jewels...
