Hi all. Well, we're growing pretty fast - that's always good news. But, with growth comes some problems. As you may have noticed, the board has been down a little bit here and there. Some of the forums are getting a little wacky. I think I have the problem under control but please reply with anything else you see that may be out of wack. If you know who user #579 is, please let me know as well. There is/was something wrong with this user's profile. I've taken some measures to correct the problem and it seems to have worked.

On another note - we've gone way far and beyond our bandwidth allowance with our hosting company. I've been using the Platinum plan at $50.00 per month and it's just not cutting it anymore. Sucks for me! We're getting something like 20,000 page views per day. Nice! But costly. I'm going to try and work something out with the hosting company so let's see what happens. I think everything will be fine in the long run. Worst case scenario is we may have to either cut images out of signatures, cut signatures altogether, cut, cut the topic being shown while replying.. I doubt we'll have to do any of this but these are some of the things that could possibly go if things get really bad. We'll be playing it by ear. Otherwise, go about your normally activities and have fun!

Thanks,

Sal

Hi Sal

Yeah - some posts vanished into thin air earlier - had us worried that we might have a hacker Things are a bit odd with the hug forum - page 40 is blank (as in white) - that's where at least 2 posts have disappeared too....

Just remember that we're behind you no matter what happens Love this place!

We were all getting that error last night. You may want to check 8teesBuff's and my profiles, since she got the error first. I am not sure what it said our user numbers were.

We are behind you 150%, Sal, do what you need to do!

Thanks for all the hard work and dedication, Sal. And, if we have to make a sacrifice here and there to keep this place up and running, I'm sure everyone here will be up to the task!!!

Well, there IS a compliment in all of this!
It is a testament to all who have joined and participated in the various conversations. Hats off to ya, Sal.
Life is about sacrifices and compromise, if we need to give up a little to keep going then that's what we'll do!

Sal.......what about the smilies being used..(no offense to anyone...I've used them too)...could they be a bit of the problem?

ValJ
7-20-01, 03:41 PM
I was just wondering that also....it seems the prob started with one certain smilie site. (No offense meant.) Also, I wonder why it is that only Jasper's and my Then and Now pics are messed up? The last page of his and last 3 pages of mine come up as a white screen. Just curious.

Sal Collaziano
7-20-01, 06:12 PM
Thanks all. I'm not sure what causes the whitescreen problem - but I do hear that it wont happen anymore in the latest release (coming very soon). As I find out more, I will let you know. Otherwise, yes, the smilies do affect some of the bandwidth. That could be another cut as well. I'm still waiting to talk to the hosting company and hopefully we'll have a resolution shortly...

I haven't talked to the web host yet - but I am going to take this problem, no - let me rephrase that, opportunity - and give you so much more than I have to offer at the moment. If things go the way I think they will, 80sxchange.com will be better than ever before. The site may go down for a day or so, but it will come back much better. I'm doing my best...

And we appreciate every moment ya put into this place Sal If certain cuts need to eventually happen, that's fine...as long as we have our message base, I think everyone can live with that

First...thank you for this site, Sal! I hope Iīm not overdoing it now, but this is the best board Iīve ever seen!

I would like to add another improve regarding the chat room...is it possible to change to another provider?
Itīs getting awful slow at evenings, and sometimes it fails completely. I have DSL connection, but it feels like being connected with a 28.8 modem.
The idea of avatars is nice, but I think that Dreamchat is now slowly reaching itīs limits, as this is surely not the only chat room they provide.
Well...just an idea.

The only problem with changing is, quite a few members now have signed up and paid for memberships with this chat...might want to wait on switching...

I am behind Sal 100% myself So long as the message board remains.

I wouldn't mind changing chat servers if it means more people can join in chats (It's only 5$).

I will stop with the smilies from that other place and hope that helps

Lots of luck to Sal and THANKS for working above and beyond for all of us here

Thanks - and you're welcome. Don't worry about the smilies. They're fine - especially if they're on another server. Dreamchat will have to stay for awhile - I think speed will improve with time. How many people are in the room at once when it's busy?

8teesBuff - okay. That's the problem. I'm not sure what happened to her account - but that's where the problem started. If somebody can tell me what 8teesBuff's post count was, I can restore it - but, a new account needs to be created. Her account was deleted by the system in order to gain back control. I don't have 8teesBuff's email address - if anyone can help me out here, I'd appreciate it. But, like I said, a new account needs to be created...

We're behind you all the way Sal!

To Roem: Okay, thatīs a really serious point, but when you pay for a service I think it should work better then.
Besides, some of us will never have the possibility to join...me for example doesnīt hold any credit card, and if I would make a transaction via the bank or sending an IRC with the post, I have to pay up to 20$ (!) just for the banking service...if Dreamchat ever accept this way of payment. Iīm not poopy about the money...I just have to think twice before spending any money due to my current job situation, thatīs all. (If youīre wondering about me being that much online - I have an extremely cheap flat rate... )

To Sal: Never seen more than 9 people sharing the same chat room, but Iīm sure this is not the only room available via Dreamchat. If there would be a possibility to choose between graphic (with avatars and stuff) and non-graphic chat, it would be fine for me...and sometimes less confusing.
Yesterday was the worst...my input window disappeared for times between 30 secs and five minutes, the screen also froze. When the chat kicks in again, the messages are rushing by like a stampede, and sometimes the messages were lost then.
We will see...Iīm trusting you in the announced improvements...

Sal!! The Topic Review is BRILLIANT!!

I love it! You have outdone yourself this time... there are plenty of times when I forget something about a post that I am replying to.. and I have to go back and then start over with my reply! Very cool idea!!!

Hey sal!!

I thought it was my computer, so I reformatted (we were having other problems anyway) and I ended up having to re-register. Whenever I brought up the main page, it said "software error".
I was able to use the same name, but I just lost my posts and my status. Not a big deal to me... I think my number was about 110 or 120 and I was a major exchanger and now I am a junior exchanger.

Hi, Sal. This really is a great thing we have going here and we have you to thank. Thanks.
