How does it look? Does it load too slow? I'll be working on it over the next few days...

Click here to see it... (http://www.80sxchange.com/test6.shtml)

Looks good Sal, We'll get used to the changes we always do <img src="smile.gif" border="0"> I have 850mhz, it was a little on the slow side for me so speed might be an issue for some visitors <img src="frown.gif" border="0">

I guess it's okay. If everyone else likes it then it's fine.

Ok...*cracks knuckles* time for the site evaluator to say his peace <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">

Load time is ok...that's not really too much of an issue and I got 56k. If you're going to keep the forum as part of the mainpage, you might want to shorten the height attribute on the iframe or just use regular frames to keep the page height smaller. Standard height is usually 4 clicks maximum on the vertical scrollbar at 800x600 resolution.

Also, if you're going to keep the forum on the mainpage, you might want to try moving the 'newtoothbrush.com' banner to the top of the mainpage instead of the forum...that would fill the big empty void at the top where the 'active topics' link is and make it all look better overall....same with the liscence plate graphic link.

And lastly off the top of my head...may want to try justifying the intro text on the side...just another improvement in the looks department <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

That's all for now <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

Ahhhhh.. Thanks for the replies.. Well, I actually didn't use an IFrame here. I finally learned how to do server side includes and that's how the Voting Poll and Forums are on the front page. I can't take out the newtoothbrush.com or plate frame images because they're actually on the forum pages themselves. So, if this look isn't too good, maybe I should abandon it altogether. I got a bit nutty since I learned this today - but I've always wanted the forums on the front page. Hmm.. I just thought of something.. Let me try it..

Nonetheless, I'll keep playing around with test6.shtml - If you can throw any ideas at me, that would be great. <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

Thanks for the input everyone!

Oh, you might also have noticed our new poll system as well. It's on the leftish side of the screen. Scroll down and vote. I'd like to see how this system works...

Okay. So what do you think now? I have only The Big 80s section on the front page - instead of all the forums...

Is it loading okay from everyone? On average, it seems it loads okay. I'll check from work tomorrow where it seemed a little slow today...

Whew! Sal, I'm glad I decided to go back and do the vote. The first time I clicked on the link I saw everything on the left side of the screen, and the right side was just blank "I didn't like it", but after going back to it the page was full of graphics, banners, and forum titles, "much better".

Sal Collaziano
5-16-01, 01:15 AM
Thanks. I'm glad you're liking it so far. I've taken Roemello's advice and put the banners from the top sent them to the bottom. I think everyone will appreciate that. <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

I'm not sure that I'm going to use this yet - I wanna make sure there are no complaints before it goes live - if it does. For some reason, I'm seeing ALL the categories on the front page. It's only setup to see "The Big 80s". At home it worked fine. Here, it isn't...

Sal Collaziano
5-16-01, 09:24 AM
That's wierd. Now I looked back and it's working fine.. Just two minutes later. Very strange.. Does anyone else get more than just the one category "The Big 80s" on the front page?

To quote the horse from REN AND STIMPY "No sir, I didn't like it"

But I am just used to the old. I always skip the front page anyhow, and don't spend a lot of time looking at it, so it really isnt a huge issue for me.

Yesterday I saw all of the topics...today...just the big 80's.

Roemello
5-16-01, 02:35 PM
That looks a lot better Sal <img src="wink.gif" border="0"> It's working properly on my end just showing 'The Big 80's' topics in front.

Sal Collaziano
5-16-01, 03:51 PM
Okay. Well it seems that more people like it than don't. What do you think, Roem? Shall I change it? I like 'em both. The one we have now is probably the most simple and fast loading. The other one would probably get more registered members. Maybe I should just test it out or something.

Roemello
5-16-01, 03:59 PM
Well, we base everything on testing the waters before committing to it. I think the homepage we have now might be a little more inviting....you get the welcome message right off the bat and see everything there is to offer.

When it comes to homepages, most evaluators I've talked to consider short, welcoming homepages to be the most effective...that's what the current one delivers quite well.

You can give it a try though to see how it works out. If it is effective, keep it, if not revert to the current one.

Sal Collaziano
5-16-01, 06:56 PM
Okay. Maybe for now I'll just add in the voting booth.. Let's see how that works out..

Roemello

Sal Collaziano
5-17-01, 09:27 AM
Okay. It's added. I think I'm gonna just take away that Amazon thing at the bottom. It's too long. They oughta make a thinner one. Anyway, not to get some real polls going. I'll check with that voting thread if I can find it! <img src="redface.gif" border="0">

Blue? hmmm...do you mean on the homepage or the message forums? We had blue on the forums for ages before switching to this color combo...dark seems to work out a little nicer...makes everything stand out a bit more. <img src="smile.gif" border="0">
