Yep...now it´s up to me to ask you for some advice.

As you all know, I´m unemployed since August 2001. During the last 2 years I´ve visited a business school and became a media designer, but with the crash of the so-called 'New Economy', there isn´t a real need for people of my profession now.

So I´ve decided not to stick entirely on what I´ve learned, but also applied for jobs like salesclerk for entertainment devices (stereos and stuff, TC! ;)), security guard, chauffeur and some more. All to no avail.
Now, there´s the ad for a computer warehouse chain which want to open a new store here soon. The jobs are in the sale and the store department. I´m somehow undecided whether to apply for a position there or not...so I´ve put up a pro and con list:

PRO
- I have a basic knowledge of hard- and software
- I like to work on and with computers
- a job would get me rid of being dependent on welfare (the most important item!), I could pay off my debts etc.
- what I don´t know, I will learn...at least I know where to look after

CONTRA
- I only have a basic knowledge, I´m afraid that any kid (no offense) outruns me in this field
- selling is not what I would hang my heart on...don´t misunderstand me, it´s not that important, I know the importance of working
- I´m also afraid of failing in case they would hire me, as I take this very personally regarding my working ethics

Maybe it´s just a fart in my brain currently, I guess that I will write my appliance tomorrow, but it would be nice to get some support from you.

Thanks for taking the time reading this. :)

This is the way I look at it, take it for now and if something better comes along then go for it! If you really need the money, take this job you mentioned.

Ditto on what Stacy said Wave :) Who knows you could learn more than the teenager knows & climb the latter before him :) BTW, what's the name of that place?

I'd say the same thing that Blaze and Stacy are telling you, Wave. Go for it!

You may only have a basic knowlege of the job, but there is one thing that an employer is always looking for, and it seems to me that you have that something that a younger guy normally doesn't, and that's dependability.
A younger guy may have all kinds of experience or knowlege of computers, but if the guy is more interested in making money so he can party and misses work a lot, he's of no use to the employer.

I say GO FOR IT!!!

I just now read this. ;)

GO FOR IT WAVE! YOU are very smart!!YOU can do it!! As I have said before, you amaze me with your knowledge about computers. ;) Your posts ar extremely well typed. You speak English very good. You are one of the smartest people I know. :) ;)

Experience is not really a factor. Look at me, I have no experience in owning a salon! I am scared as hell that I may lose it. But I have to give it a try. :) The same for you! ;)

BTW...my stereo, TV, VCR and clock are acting poopy! :D

I wish only the best for you. Good luck !

Wow...you must almost feel the heat radiating from me, blushing that deep red... ;)

TY Kitty...you know how to cheer me up. I really had given it a long time of thinking, and I was feeling a bit blue since I´ve received only rejections so far.

About your other devices...shall I apply for a Green Card? Methinks that may take a little bit longer... :D

Blazie, to answer your question...it´s a chain that operates only in Germany as far as I know, it´s called K&M Elektronik GmbH.

Whoops. Not sure how I missed this one.

What can I say pal. Sales sucks... I know. I had to work retail for a while. But! It was something I had to do. It wasn't permanent for me and it doesn't have to be for you. It's just a means to an end. Paying bills, eating, etc...

I say go for it, but keep your eyes open for for opportunities elsewhere. I worked computer sales and it definitely played a role in my being where I am today.

I have full faith that you can do whatever you put your mind to. :)

I think those worries applies to any person applying for any job. They are completely human, but that's life - We take chances in everything we do. Worst thing that can happen is that you learn something new. I hope you get the application in and they will hire you. Everybody here knows how much energy you put into things that interests you, so I am sure you will be great at a tech-sales job. Goods luck, Wave! :)

Go for it Wave. It's a cliche but true; it's easier to find the job you want when you're employed.

If they give you the job, I'm sure you'll succeed in no time Wave. And then you can look around at where you want to go. You might even find you like the job a lot.

Best of luck pardner. We'll be waiting for the good news. :)
