View Full Version : 80s Candy
Sal Collaziano 3-19-01, 09:36 AM Hey. Does anyone remember Skull Crushers? They were some kinda wierd candy in the shape of a skull. They were white with a pinkish red cream inside. They were good! They came out around the same time as Garbage Pail Kids (cards) and stuff like that.. Does anyone remember these things besides me?
How about "Summit"? They came out with this around the same time Twix came out. Actually, they looked exactly the same and were always placed side by side in the candy rack.. Does anyone remember Summit?

I seem to vaguely remember Summit's. The Skull Crushers are a new one on me though.

If I'm here and your here doesn't that make it our time?
GIJOE Man 73181 3-19-01, 05:46 PM Do you rember Bubble-B BubbleGum???
Or how about Bonquers taffy like gum?http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//icon36.gif
Sal Collaziano 3-20-01, 09:30 AM Hmm. No, I don't remember either one of those. I guess there is a lot of 80s candy that doesn't exist anymore.. I wonder if some things were only in certain areas, too. Yeah, actually - that's very likely. If it didn't make it big, it would only be in certain areas.. hmm

That's a real possibility. They could have tried things out in a specific target market to see if they would fly. Demographics, Hmmpphh! I may have lost out on some good candy because of it.

PIXIE STIX!!! mmmmmmmmm
pure sugar!
Has anyone ever seen The Upright Citizens Brigade on Comedy Central? It was only on for one season.. about a year ago.. anyway... they do sketch comedy... and they always refer to PIXIE STIX as a drug called "Super-cool" Its hilarious!! It makes you hyper!! (Much like the real stuff!! ) http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif
Now & Later's became popular in the 80s.. as well as Jolly Ranchers
Lik-M-Aid (more pure sugar!)
Pop Rocks
Big League Chew
Gummi Bears
Most of these are still popular today... but I think they mostly became known in the 80s...
and I love them all!!!!!!! yummy http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//icon20.gif

Sal Collaziano 3-21-01, 12:42 AM Whatchamacallit! Oh yeah! I love those! I don't eat them anymore - but boy do I love 'em! They're still around - cool. Maybe one day I'll have another. Hmmm! I remember most of those things you mentioned. You LOVE sugar! Don't ya! May I suggest SPLENDA as an alternative, though? It's healthier and tastes exactly like sugar..

Roemello 3-22-01, 12:29 AM Oh baby! Pixie sticks...nerds...Boston baked beans (yes I remember! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif ) http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//icon20.gif Ya know...a lot of these are still around today! My mother works at a Lil Peach close to campus (always good to visit mom in the morning for a free coffee http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif). Anyway, it's pretty cool to see Big League Chew, candy cigarettes, pop rocks, etc. still on the shelves http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif
How about Bonkers? Those little candy things with one flavor on the outside and another on the inside.
Then we have Runts! Those fruit candys shaped like fruit http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif
And and and....Bubble Tape!!! Fruit Roll-ups! Ok, I'm just completely off the wall now http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//OFFWALL.gif

Hey Sal.
I remember Summit bars. They were peanut buttery, and had wafers in them right? They were good.
I used to like Twix, but I only liked the cookie part. I used to peel off the chocolate, and carmel, and eat the cookie. I wished I could find a way for them to just sell me the cookie. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//replyicon8.gif
I used to love pixie sticks, and lik m aid. I like the sweet and sour. Now the only candy I consume is good and plenty. Thats been around forever. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif
I don't know if they really classify as candy, although they were sold in the candy section, but... What about those little wax thingies that were in the shapes of bottles? You would bite the top off and then drink the juice out of them? Anyone remember those?
Since I am on the subject of wax. How about the wax teeth you could buy? You could wear them and when you were done, you could chew them. Ah!!! Candy with a purpose.
Anyone remember either of those?

Roemello 3-22-01, 05:34 PM I remember those wax drinks http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//icon20.gif I went through TONS of those things. And the wax teeth? Those are actually still on the shelves today http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

Willy Wonka's Gobstoppers... I loved how they changed colors as you got down to each layer..
Any others?

Ooh! God yes. Gobstoppers ruled. I used to think I was going to break my teeth on those things. Never had the patience to wait for them to get small...
Glad I can bring back some good (and tasty) memories, Tinajo.

Anyone remember Warheads? Those were a blast....literally! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif
I loved Warheads, too!!! Good call, Pagan!

Hehe. Yupper! Loved Warheads also. I have a penchant for sour candy. Picked up a taste for it when I lived in Turkey. They had this stuff called Lemon salt that would almost pucker your mouth closed. Didn't they make Warheads in a liquid also? Think they did. It was in a little tube and you could squeeze it onto your tongue. Mmmm. Tasty!

morningmyst 3-25-01, 04:47 PM Warheads are still around. It's a main staple in my son's diet! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif I believe that they have now made a toothpaste out of warheads. I haven't bought it for him. I don't want to waste $4 on something that he possible won't use. Can you imagine brushing your teeth with that stuff? WOW!

Iluvthe80s 5-03-01, 08:41 PM Remember the gums that when you bit into them they tasted like Dr.Pepper and I think they also had a A&W Root Beer one?
Warheads! I love 'em.. still get them over here too. I love anything really sour. Don't like the hot ones much, sweet and pepper don't mix! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//yucky.gif
I love raspberry licorice too. Especially the ones I had at primary school, Firehoses! I still like Willy Wonka's Raspberry Twisters, or whatever the name is. mmmmmmm http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//icon20.gif

I'm a sour fanatic also, Sheibub. I haven't found anything sour enough yet to satisfy me. About the closest I came was when living in Turkey and we would eat Lemon Salt. That stuff would pucker you up! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//icon20.gif

Another sour lover. I too haven't been able to find anything sour enough for me to spit it back out. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//yucky.gif

Pebbles, that gum is called Freshenup, I believe. What about the Fortune gum (in the penny candy section) that came with a Chinese fortune wrapped around it?
------------------
Yeah. And then you woke up!
relivingmyheyday 5-04-01, 05:13 PM Zots were totally tubular during the 80s and so were Pop Rocks that exploded in your mouth. We used to eat some Zots and wash em down with soda. A taste treat! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif
Remember the dinosaur eggs, too? And Ring-Pops (they still make those) I think Bubblicious came out during the 80s too.

Greenway88 6-05-02, 02:08 PM MMMM! Let's start a candy store. I liked Skullcrushers, Dr. Pepper gum, Freshen Up, Lik-em Aid Fun Dips and Pop Rocks.
Here are some candies I don't think I've seen since the 80's: Bottle Caps, Chewy Sweet Tarts, Spree, Cracker Jack and celebrity candy bars. There was a Reggie Jackson candy bar that I think came out in the early 80's. What about the rumor that if you got a Tootsie Pop wrapper with a star on it, you won a free Tootsie Pop?
As far as gum, what about Chicklets, Orbit, Gatorade Gum (YUK) and the striped gum, zoo stripes or something. They were fruit flavored white sticks of gum that had pink, purple, yellow or green stripes on them. The package had a zebra on it.
ImSoooSure 6-06-02, 01:16 AM I remember the Reggie Jackson candy bar! I guess that didn't go over so well.
I also liked Tangy Taffy. They had grape, cherry, strawberry and a few other flavors. I haven't been able to find those anywhere.
Oh and Stuckys pecan log rolls. I think those still exist but we don't have any Stuckys out here. We always used to get them on road trips when I was little. They are the best! :thumb:

LOVED Bottle Caps. Between those, Wacky Wafers, and Razzles (it's a gum, it's a candy)... I've seen Wacky Wafers, and I would swear I saw Razzles about a year ago. Oooh, I miss Freshen Up gum! "The gum that goes squirt...freshen your breath..."
You're right, Gatorade Gum was NASTY.
The zebra gum - you're thinking of Fruit Stripe gum. I've seen that in the grocery store checkout line. I was so tempted to buy it. I did break down and buy Clark's Teaberry gum when I saw it.
Chicklets rock. It was always great talking about someone getting their teeth knocked out and spitting them out like Chicklets.
Seems that I remember gum a lot better. I remember Hubba Bubba, my fave bubble gum, cuz it DIDN'T STICK TO YOUR FACE (I remember the commercial with the gunslingers - or should I say gumslingers - in their old west outfits, not to mention all the ads in the comics I used to read back then).
And "Replay" gum.
I even remember part of the damn song that was on the commercial: "Replay, Replay, I demand a Replay (oh yeah) cuz the flavor lasts longer than the stick..." Once upon a time I was holding my cassette recorder up to the TV to tape these commercials. Another casualty of my dad not paying his storage unit rental fee, I'm sure. This is what happens when they foreclose on your parent's home while you are working full time out of state. (sigh) But I do still have my Nike Cortez sneakers from 1985. They still fit.
(Here's the point. ........................................Here's me...)
A friend of mine thought it would be a good idea to snort Pixie Stix. She didn't recommend it.
Some of my other faves were all the Ferrera Pan brands...the Lemonheads, Red Hots, Alexander the Grapes, the mini Jawbreakers, Boston Baked Beans, etc...all in those little tiny boxes that cost like a dime each. I think most of those are still around.
And finally, back to gum. There was a gum called something like ABC (which was nasty when I realized what the acronym ABC was) and it was ice cream flavored. I remember the chocolate was my fave. I tried the strawberry but I don't think I ever got the vanilla. That had to be back in the 70s.
likeOmyGod 6-09-02, 05:49 PM Has anyone mentioned Now&Laters? I used to love those. Bit-O-Honey, which I never liked, but I remember them.

I hated both of those, because they lodged between my teeth and the inside of my cheek. I'd always end up having to use my finger to get all the bits off my back molars!
Oooh, I just remembered my all time favorite candy. Candy cigarettes! They were the BEST.
And after the boxes and boxes of those I ate, I never started smoking real cigarettes. What the heck was all the fuss about?
BCRichRocker4JC 8-22-04, 11:09 PM Wow, this a thread I could post a novel on. Let's just say the 80s had SOO many cool candies that I can't list them all. And they were always coming out with more and newer exotic flavors. But one I will mention is Tidal Wave Bubble Gum. I loved the Apple Flavor. And, oh yeah, Bubbilicious especially the Cola and Blueberry flavors. I once walked miles to find a store that carried the Blueberry flavor when it first came out since it was rare at the time and it wasn't at the Sevs around the block from me.
