Awesome! Tony Hadley has the most amazing voice. I saw him life in concert last year with Paul Young. Hope they tour down here, I'll definitely be there to see them.

Molly always brings the best news. I knew they were talking about reformation (ha, i am playing with double meanings) for years, but sueing each other for song rights didn't help the process. Glad to hear that Tony, Steve and John sorted out their problems with Gary. Does that mean another trip to London to go to a concert this year? :)

I saw they guys perform without Gary and Martin back in 2001. It was a dream come true for me, but having the Kemp brothers on board again will be overkill! Btw, Gary is the only one of the band I haven't met yet, but who knows what will happen...

Oh, no...does this mean that we get to be penetrated with "True" again?

Never was a big fan of SB, but this might only be the consequence of being forced to listen to "True" and "Gold" almost constantly during a trip to Italy in the 80's. Yeah, girls shouldn't had been allowed to carry a ghettoblaster with them. :D

I am a girl (ok, without a ghetto blaster) and my list of Spandau songs to play would definatley not include those songs. ;) Yep, even the hardcore fans have a little overdose. ;) I would annoy you with "Paint me down" or "Musclebound". ;)

One word on this news...."blah"

This is indeed, good stuff.

SB have always remained very popular here in the UK, and in particular Tony Hadley who has been on the touring circuit for many years now.

Now, not that I'm cynical or anything, but there is a growing campaign for 'Gold' to be adopted as official theme tune for the 2012 London Olympics....one wonders just how much of an influence this potential 'Gold Carrot' had on the band reforming.

Nevertheless, it's great news!

This Communication surley is a Pleasure to me.

Wasn't Gold the BBC theme for the Olympics back in gosh, what year was that, 82 or 84? Not that i would mind but it's not a progressiv move to choose a song that was used 3 decades ago...

I knew that the references were only to get worse ;)

Yikes! Even I can't remember that....must have been '84 if it was?

All I can remember from 1984 is that sodding 'Bolero' theme from Torvill and Dean's winning Ice dance performance :hammer:

see, that makes me the bigger freak. ;) But I don't remember anything about those olympics, just read the info somewhere in my Spandau Ballet Superfreak-Fan-Days.

I liked early Spandau Ballet, especially "to cut a long story short" and "chant No.1", but stuff ,like "True" is too saccharine and "Through the Barricades" to me is just awful. Considering that the rest of the band couldnt stand the Kemps a few years back this has "We want to make some money" written all over it.

Same here, i even like the early day weird stuff like Coffee Club.

I hate to be a smart ass and I am outing myself as even more freaky now... but it's not the Kemps, just Gary. Martin stayed out of the whole fight. He is a good buddy of Tony, actually they live in the same street in North Finchley/London opposite of eachother. I know that because I've been there. The 2 girls who ran the fanclub back then took me there in 2001 because they needed some stuff for raffles signed. Shirley, Martin's wife and former Wham backround singer opend the door and Martin told me it was nice to meet me. It was sureal meeting each of them, seeing the guys i had on posters and in my teenage day-dreams for real. Yep, i had no life back then.

Oh I totally envy you, Kat. I'd love to meet Martin and I knew it wasn't the Kemp brothers, just Gary. I'd also love to meet Tony too. His solo work totally rocks. I have his Ballads CD and it's wonderful. :)

I think it's awesome that they're back together again and I hope it works out for them.
Saccharan or not, I loved "True" when it was out and I still do. I think Tony's got a great voice and he shines on that song.

Some interesting input in this thread. I agree that the early years were the best for Spandau, and I agree that 'Through The Barricades' is a record to forget!

For me 'Gold' stands head and shoulders above any other record Spandau have ever recorded, simply fantastic. Play it in a bar, nightclub, shopping mall or whatever it still kicks serious ass!

I like the Through the Barricades album because it is not as soft as the True Stuff. Snakes and Lovers, Cross the Line or Fight for Ourselves rock!

True and Parade are my least favorite albums, because they are plain chart music. The other albums have much more imagination.

Spandau are definitely one of those iconic Eighties bands. They had such a great sound and they also had their own style. It's great to hear that they are still together and recording music after all these years. Seems like a lot of Eighties bands are reforming as people crave for the nostalgia of days gone by...
