Nolan and the rest of the xchangers living in Hurricane Gustav's path, stay safe. This storm sounds like it could be another Katrina.

We aren't one's to panic, but we have rooms reserved inland, plenty of provisions and as things stand we plan to leave tomorrow if things continue as they are.
Not sure who all here is in the path, but I don't have a good feeling about this one neighbors. Hope for the best but be prepared for the worst. Be smart, don't panic & be careful ... not brave. If you're told to leave, please do so. Don't be the one people have to risk thier lives for to come rescue!!!

The only one I think might be in the path is Nolan, but I'm not sure. I think he lives near Biloxi, Mississippi.

I thank you for your concern, Molly ,you are very sweet. :rose: But I'm on the opposite (north) end of Mississippi from Biloxi, very close to Memphis, TN. We are sufficiently inland that the worst we ever get from the remnants of these storms is alot of rain.

Those who are down on the coast, please be safe, you're in our thoughts & prayers.

They're saying on the news tonight that this is going to be the most destructive one in many years. Whether that's true or just sensationalism from the media, please stay safe and do the right thing.

I am, indeed, in the area that will be affected by this hurricane. My husband is a first responder for the medical center, so we're not going anywhere. No evacuation has been ordered for Baton Rouge, but if one is, I'll get out. I'm not terribly worried about this one. After Katrina and Rita, I think I can handle this one. We're just going to have to hunker down and get prepared to have no electricity for the next few days. I have plenty of candles, flashlights and batteries. If y'all don't hear from me in a few days, you'll know that's what happened. I will post here after the storm as soon as I can.

With it heading toward Houma & NO, we're going to be on the clean side. We went ahead and cancelled our rooms but expect a bit of rain after he turns inland. With him down to Cat 3, most are relaxing a bit. I must say, I really expected him to gain more strength than he did after passing through Cuba. Glad he didn't. Feel bad for the areas getting hit, most still haven't recovered from Katrina & Rita & now they're going through it all over again :(
Jenn ~ you remind me of us in Rita!! Reading your post was de ja vu!! Hang tight & we'll keep you in our thoughts & prayers!!

TX,
Rita scared the crap out of me. Believe it or not, Katrina was a cake walk here in Baton Rouge. Well, the storm anyway. The influx of New Orleans residents was NOT. Especially since they stayed for freakin' ever! We took the backside of Rita, though, so it was a lot scarier. It looks like we're going to get the backside of this one, too. I know my last post reads as if I'm not worried (I even said I'm not), but I am, a little. I think it's because both of my boys were still in West Virginia when Katrina and Rita hit. They have never been through a hurricane and they act as if it's nothing. Alex is at Brandon's house and they're partying it up tonight. I have my daughter-in-law (to be) watching out for them. *sigh* I hope she can handle their boredom when the power goes out.....and it definitely will.

Winds are gusting pretty strongly. Power just blinked. Lots of shingles are on the ground already and it hasn't even gotten bad yet!

For those who are interested, I'm watching live coverage from WGNO 26 from New Orleans (http://www.abc26.com/pages/main). It's pretty interesting.

Stay safe, everyone. I don't think Gustav is going to be anywhere near the monster Katrina was, but I'll keep all the Xchangers in its path in my thoughts and prayers!

from what I've been watching, it doesn't look as bad as Katrina, but it's not over yet.

Sun's out here & we've got dead cow on the grill!! Hope the cattle in the pasture aren't offended ;)

Jen ... on Katrina ... I hear ya'! We had the same influx. Wouldn't have been so bad if they didn't just come in and take over ... especially in a small town like ours. They were EVERYWHERE, many DEMANDING handouts. It makes it really hard to extend a helping hand while those you're trying to help are cussing you & robbing your neighborhoods. Thankfully those types didn't stick around after the generosity stopped. I realize they didn't have anything to go home to, but why not try to contribute to the society trying to help you instead of sucking it dry?!?! We still have some around here from NO, but they're the one's who stuck around to make themselves a new start.
And YES, catching the backside w/ the winds coming off the water can make a BIG difference!! Looks like Gustav is going to take his time along the coast and drench us ALL though!! Some reports say the front coming from upstate is going to push him back out in the Gulf. Just hope he doesn't bounce back enough to toy w/ us all a bit more!!
Looks like it's going to be a busy season too w/ 4 more disturbances out in the Atlantic!! Don't know if I'm just paying more attention as I've gotten older or it's really that more active?!?!
Just everyone down here ... be prepared and stay safe!!!

I am happy to see that evacuation plans seem much more solid now and that it's going to be easier for people to be safe. If you are told to leave, just do it.

I live 100-200 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico--and was east of Gustav for quite a while! But all I got from Gustav was plenty of rain!

Oh! For less than three hours Monday (Labor Day) afternoon, I had no electricity. But I'm sure it had nothing to do with Gustav; it was just a faulty transformer down the street!
