Assuming that the majority of people will marry in their lifetime, what's too young?
I'm of the opinion that people should mature a little before they take the plunge, say, late 20's at least. Most teen marriages (and there are certainly exceptions) that I've seen don't seem to do that well.

I say wait till your at least 23. When I married my ex, I was only 19 and now that i'm older I realize I should have waited. I felt like I missed out on a lot. We had dated ever since I was 15.

I got married 3 months after I turned 20....and, we're still going strong...we'll celebrate our 11th Anniversary next month...
I guess it depends on who the person is...some mid to late 20's...other's ok earlier, and some.......later!

Mid-20's I'd say for guys...women can probably handle it earlier due to the faster maturity thing <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

I'd say early 20s. Really depends on the person though.

I'd say mid 20's would be the best time to get married. But I only say that because I got married when I was 24. My wife on the other hand was only 19 at the time.

I think the mid to late 20's is a good time to get married. By that age you have experienced the single life and know what to expect. Some like the single life so much that they don't want to change, while others get tired of it and want a spouse and family.

I sometimes wonder what I would be doing if I didn't marry young. If I'd have waited longer things might be different, but maybe not better.

I forgot to mention that one of the reasons marriage worked so long for us, is that we also dated for 4 years before we got married.

That might be true with some people, Sarg, but, my husband and I were together for 7 months when we got married, and we are more in love now than we ever were. And, that was 11 years ago. It could also depend on the circumstances, too.

Dawn, 11 yrs is great! I'm sure by now you know that there are always obsticles to deal with in marriage, especially the first few years. I've got a friend of mine whose been married a year now, and already their seeing a marrage councilor. Their working their problems out, They didn't get married young either, but there is an age difference He's 36 & she's 23. They didn't date very long before getting married though.

That's true........different circumstances. I know people that have dated for years......get married, and then divorce within the year. All of my husbands friends said that our marriage wouldn't last...because we were young, and didn't date for that long......well, all of them have been married and divorced and Russ and I are still going strong! We work at our marriage to make it strong. It's not something that just happens overnight. And, yes, there are obstacles, you just have to deal with them as they come along!

You and Sarg give me hope that'll I'll still find that special person for me Myst. Just don't think they're in Oregon. lol

I think mid to late twenties. When I got married, we were both young (me at 23, her at 19). I think that if we had waited until we were a little more repsonsible, things would have turned out differently.

I think someone should wait until they are at least 24. Its amazing how much more mature(mentally) you are copmared with even 21 <img src="smile.gif" border="0"> It dosent matter how long you date someone just dont live together first. (imo) <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

I agree, Sarg. I was 19 and my hubby was 22 when we got married. We did live together first, though. We were together for a year and a half before we got married. We will be celebrating our 9th anniversary on May 21.

It all depends on the two people involved, and it is a lot of hard work, but it is worth it.

I got married when I was 22 and I'm happy. I've also been with the same guy since I was 18 (a month after high school) and he was 31 at the time. He was 36 when we got married and I'm his second wife. Or as he calls me, his "last wife". He's always told me that "I'll bury you in the front yard before I get divorced again!" Kinda sweet in a sick way huh? Anyway, I had a lot of bad experiences in my years so all that I wanted was to find a nice guy and settle down. It's hard to say when to get married, I got married young according to some people, but I'm glad I did. I definately approve of marriage in your 20's, but I know some people want to get their careers & a house, etc. before they settle down. We bought a house then moved in and then got married. It pretty much depends on the person. (Okay, now I've totally rambled on and on!!)

You really want to know? Let's just say first off I have a hormonal problem which causes masive weight gain in women. No chance in losing it! But they have found that a diabetic medication called Metformin help them lose the weight. I'm proof of that! I only wish I could lose a bit more than I am at the moment. Because muscle weighs more than fat! <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

To John C., I have been with my husband for 11 1/2 years, 9 of which we have been married. I married him when I was 19, so I have to say that it's not always true that teen marriages don't work out.

We didn't do that all that much even then and the posts were more discussion based and longer than a few quick words <img src="tongue.gif" border="0"> Not that that's bad once in a while, but if over done it gets the conversations a little dry <img src="frown.gif" border="0">

Yeah, I got married the first time when I was 18. Only lasted a little over 5 years until we got seperated then divorced. But my second marriage was at 24 and we've been married 10 years next May.

I know of a couple (she was a classmate of mine in high school) that were married when she was 17...they're getting ready to celebrate their 25th anniversary and they've been VERY happy together.
